Captain Drone, I really appreciate your thorough and unbiased reviews. I ordered the SJRC Z5 5G model for its WiFi range. If it gives me 300 - 400 m. as advertised I'll be a happy camper. Haven't seen any other drone in this price range that provides close to 600 m. control distance or 14 minutes of flight time. Best part is its sub-250 gram weight so not (yet) subject to Transport Canada Drone Regulations. If you ever get bored I'd like to see a comparison review of the SJRC Z5 5G versus the C-Fly Dream (another sub 250 gram drone). I also hope at some point in the near future DJI comes out with A Spark Lite, perhaps a hybrid Ryze Tello/ DJI Spark combo giving us the low weight, high performance that would tempt me to bust the piggy bank wide open. Cheers!
Thanks Ron. I've been reviewing so many drones that their names are all becoming fuzzy to me. If a C-Fly Dream ends up on my doorstep, I will certainly review it. Enjoy the Z5!
I do not have it with anyone, indeed beautiful review but .... there was one, I say a review of brushless drones which says that motors have a maximum life cycle of 6 hours ... if a few bumps happen even less ... divide the price for 6 hours (maximum!) and then you see how much the drone costs you per hour .... maybe you took it with 2 batteries for 120 €, a little bit for a maximum of 6 flight hours (probably much less)
Brushed motors do not last as long as Brushless motors. A brushed motor will last for hundreds of hours as long as you don't crash the drone. A brush-less motor will last for thousands of hours and you can crash the drone as much as you want and the motors will keep working.

Your reviews are really good and informative. I bought one of these a few days ago. Initially the drone flew off in a random direction. Then I calibrated the gyro (not mentioned in your review) and it flew nicely. The version I have is 5G 1080p. The handbook specifies a weight of 266g. When I weighed it on the kitchen scales it registered 277g but the scales are old and out of calibration (I checked using coins). But, being greater than 250g, I shall have to register it, which is a slight nuisance. Also the battery on this model is 1500mAh. Another review highlighted that the camera only rotates upwards to about 5 deg below horizontal, which is a shame. I’m looking forward to flying it in a big open area when the weather improves, which is pretty much non-stop rain here in England.

HI, maybe you can halp me, i buyed this drone and a microSD card. Also the drone was selled as 5G but is only 2.4G from china, so maybe its just a scam..
What type of computer are you trying to view the photos on? If it is a MAC, then it won't work because the formatting of the card is not readable in a MAC. Also, the other problem could be the SIZE of the card. The Z5 only likes a 16 GIG card or smaller (8 Gig works even better), and the card must be formatted on a PC.
I'm just not a huge fan of looking at the unstabilised imagery from a drone. I've been using my home-built drone utilising the Drift mode in Ardupilot (DJI A3 has drift mode I believe also) but I'm yet to attach a camera. But I'm thinking it would be a much more enjoyable viewing experience. Wish these little drones, with fixed cameras, could add Drift mode.

Brush motors are not bad. Most of your household electrical items are all run with brushless motors. In the old days brushless motors had a short life cycle and you'd have to change the brushes. Today brushless motors last for a very long time (once again consider anything electric in your home or tool box that turns electrically). Brushed motors are usually less powerful than a brushless motor of the exact same size. Also brushless motors can get dirt and moisture in them and work fine whereas brushed motors can't. Also brushed motors hate cat and dog hairs. Brushed motors will burn out if crap gets in them.

@@ewajarmoszuk8823 I discovered that the remote has a short in the board that leaves the battery power light on, (dimly), when it's turned off and that causes the battery to drain out in the box. I had to take the remote apart and take the battery out and figure out a way to unplug the battery after each use. I made a hole in the remote case that allows me to unplug the battery when I'm not using it. It's ugly but it works.
I have pulled mine out several times with a dead battery. I couldn't figure out how to turn the remote back off thought it was on a timer or something. NOT THE CASE!!! @@CAPTAINDRONE798 I know that, how do just set up the gyroscope, I think I said, I tried the headless mode button, still says searching for gps
@@johnh10000 all depends on the drone. You go through the calibration motions indoors and on some drones it lets you fly and on others you have to read the manual and see if there is a button you hold down to turn off the GPS. This is a very old drone and it is long gone from my collection so I can’t help you further
Is that wat the live feed is like and wat sort of distance can u get with live feed 5g and would u pick this drone or jjrc x8 cetus ?
Darren Pearse it’s about 120 metres of live transmission depending on how much interference there is. About 600 metres of controller range
That’s a cool little drone! Great work captain!
Pardon my asking but what app are you using on your phone to access the camera of the drone?
No idea because this is an old video and I don't keep drones for very long. If it is not shown in the video, then I can't tell you.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 alright thanks anyway
Highly comparable to my HS120D. Same features. Identical transmitter w/ the same annoying beeps. HS120D different design doesn't fold. It's more of the swollen X shape. The battery doesn't have the indicator lights on it either. $149.
Have you noticed the hs 120d giving you the black circle for the sun when aimed towards it?
@@ghfjjgk yes and everything else is washed out. I can't film in the sun's direction on a sunny day. Bummer.
Also during the follow me mode the image does back and forth rocking motion or it is stable?
There is no GIMBAL so this is what you get
Nice. Please review the F11 800 meters version
I've asked the distributors to send me one. Well have to wait and see.
Love the channel I've just bought the z5 5g 1080p just weighed it it's 256 grm yet the one you tested was 242 any ideas many thanks
Did you add something to it or do you have a bad scale?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 what made me check it was in the instruction manual said 266 grms in drone spec what makes it worse is I've been on lots of sites all about 242 great
drone many thanks
Also just to say your channel is one of the few i go to for a decent review i do appreciate you answering my questions thank you from UK
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I've just noticed the battery is 1500 mAh ones on line say 1200 mAh
Great video
That is nice. I'm still waiting for the Mavic Air clone that has all its functions but not the $1000 price tag. As for now I'm thoroughly enjoying the Bugs 5W
The Bugs 5W is also my favorite new addition. You have good taste in Drones
I just watched your building inspection video. Good idea put that Bugs 5W to work its fast, stable, and pretty quite.
@@mrgreen8887 Thanks, it was within my price range but what a world of difference from the $35 toys. Stable flight, can't lose it, movable camera...
Hi have you ever know any problems saving the beginners mode.??? /getting out of beginners mode this is my First starting drone but having trouble with beginners mode
You can't save many settings on this drone.
HI, maybe you can halp me, i buyed this drone and a microSD card.
But the videos the drone save on the card are not openable, the pictures work fine and videos from other sources on the card work fine only the videos saved by the drone are broken.
What can it be ?
Also the drone was selled as 5G but is only 2.4G from china, so maybe its just a scam..
What type of computer are you trying to view the photos on? If it is a MAC, then it won't work because the formatting of the card is not readable in a MAC. Also, the other problem could be the SIZE of the card. The Z5 only likes a 16 GIG card or smaller (8 Gig works even better), and the card must be formatted on a PC.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Win10 and card is formatted. But its a 128GB card, this must be the problem.
Thx for the quick answer :D
Thank you, Steven, very nice GPS starter drone for the money. Thank you for the very nice review!
Wish these little drones, with fixed cameras, could add Drift mode.
i have a question, how good does it fly indoors.
It should work fine since it has optical flow.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 ok, thanks
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 00:49
I'm confused now 😂
Does it have optical flow or not? In the video you said it doesn't.
@@schalkloots6988 hey I recently purchased this drone and can confirm that if you want optical flow then you need the f11 pro, I would recommend that as it cost only a little bit more for alot better quality
I brought it and it’s good
So i’m going to buy this drone but i have 1 question, can it cirkel you?
Yes, I believe so.
CAPTAIN DRONE thanks for responding🤗. Oké thats good to know
Why are brush motors bad for drones to have ?
Brush motors are not bad. Most of your household electrical items are all run with brushless motors. In the old days brushless motors had a short life cycle and you'd have to change the brushes. Today brushless motors last for a very long time (once again consider anything electric in your home or tool box that turns electrically). Brushed motors are usually less powerful than a brushless motor of the exact same size. Also brushless motors can get dirt and moisture in them and work fine whereas brushed motors can't. Also brushed motors hate cat and dog hairs. Brushed motors will burn out if crap gets in them.
Where can we find spare batteries? Or better yet the materials to build spare batteries?
eBay or used online websites

I was wondering if you have figured out how to disable the beep or quiet it? Thanks for the reviews I really enjoy them.
Hi Brent. I have not looked into it, so I really don't know if you can. Almost every drone I have received that has a camera which is controlled electronically to move up and down, makes a beep sound. I think the Chinese believe this is necessary.... not sure why.
Hi great review what would you suggest as a good upgrade on a budget from a tello
MJXRC 2SE, Z5, F11, X5
How did you connect the drone to your phone
Thanks Captain Drone!
Just bought this drone because i thought it was under 250g but the booklet says it's weight is 266g with battery?
Perhaps they changed the battery? The drone was designed from the start to be at 250grams and under.
Does it have a geofence function?
Hey Cap, how you doing? Just a quick one, when the Z5 was launched I bought one but recently when I took it out to fly, I'm not able to locate the drone on my WiFi list, could it be my phone software (android)?
If it is the same phone you are using then the problem would be that either the APP has updated or the WIFI on the drone has burnt out.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 that's no good, I suppose the WiFi is built into the camera, I did search online for another camera but could not find one to purchase....
Captain this looks like the Contixo f22, are they the same form and function?
It could very well be the same. Chinese companies sell their drones to multiple companies under different brands.
Does this drone have 1080p camera? Video looks like it is 720p
It is 1080p but not a great 1080p like a DJI Spark.
CAPTAIN DRONE what’s the difference between 2.4g wifi and 5g wifi drone? Cause some drones have a option of 2.4g or 5g when purchasing.
@@cityplanner3063 Google 'what is the difference between 2.4g and 5g wifi' and read the results

Hi there could you tell me if you have to calibrated every time you fly thanks
Where can I currently find this? It's out of stock everywhere.
Geekbuying.com is great for this check the description and you should find the direct link
ive brought this one im in uk was so worried would be too heavy but is perfect let to fly it yet waiting on bash gaurds
First flight amazing best ever
Is this essentially the Contixo f22 w/o the belly drift cam? Looks like different app as well..
Do the drones have a parachute option (automatic or manual) or shock absorbers on the drone's landing legs? And if not, would it be better if it had these features?
Nope. It adds weight so such items would be after market add ons.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Okay, yeah weight would be added. But would it be worth safety over performance? Perhaps better batteries will give a longer flight time.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 yeah, i've seen some after market parachutes but never with the drones. Strange why some mfrs don't offer it with their drone.
Another great informative video 👌
I have the SJRC 5w20 , which I like . This a good looking folding drone with good features . Nice review Captain Drone ! New sub !
Do you guys know how to fix this problem I charge all of my batteries but for some reason after flying it for a few seconds the lights start flashing red and it lands itself and every time I take off it just keeps doing that
The battery is not fully charged. Not all the cells have a full charge. Try a different USB cable and/or USB power source (you may not be getting enough amps). Don't charge off a computer.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thank you for the reply this might sound dumb but I'm going to try to use the charger it came with instead of the ones I had at my house hopefully that works
@@IR088Y I'm just a random dude scrolling through the comments with no drone expertise, but I'm pretty sure the cable it comes with is designed to help balance charge the cells
I was wanting to buy this Z5 but was given a Potensic T18 for Christmas. Would you recommend exchanging it for the Z5 ? Thank you
Both somewhat similar so no need to exchange
CAPTAIN DRONE thank you I am concerned about the 8 minute battery life. I really enjoy your reviews
pretty impressive drone! What do you think of the sound levels in comparison to a mavic air?
Oh, the Z5 is much quieter than the Mavic Air (prop sounds), but the Mavic Air makes zero sound when you move the camera.
Nice video! Nice drone. But I really like those gloves! Where do you get them and how much?
I picked them up awhile ago. Here is a video from back then: ua-cam.com/video/0KSZKmuyFjc/v-deo.html
great video nice little drone for a newbie ..
the video footage is pretty shaky.. may be the drone must be balanced at the props.. some drones with fixed cam have more stable video, hubsan H501S for example..
Not really comparable. The Husban H501S is more than twice the price of the SJRC Z5...and for that sort of money you could get a DJI spark.
@@davegiles2120 Hubsan H501S costs 165 euros, and SJRC Z5 costs 140 euros, DJI Spark + controller costs 420 euros.

CAPTAIN DRONE could you please do a review on the sky viper series?
Bought on amazon
For the drones under $500, it is the distributors that send them my way for review. If such a drone comes my way, I'll certainly review it.
Ok... how did you start your videos?
Hi, could you tell me which is better, this or the JJRC x5 epik? I think they are both good but which would you choose and why please? Thank you for your time.
Hey Captain drone my question is why put antennas on remote if they don't work?
Most companies do it to make the controller look more pro. Someone started it long ago, and companies just keeping doing it.
Could you possibly do a full review on its better version, the SJRC F11? There isn't a single English or helpful review on it. On paper it looks amazing and the few Asian videos I viewed it looked very amazing but still need a detailed English review.
My last video of December 24th shows the F11 and explains why there are no videos.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 oh I missed that one. I been following you for a few months now by the way you're my favorite drone review guy. Thank you for the detailed reviews you give us.
Which is the heavy duty Hoodie? Not the zipper one.
The zippered hoodie is what I consider to be a light material yet TEE SPRING calls it heavy duty I believe. I've had mine for a few months and it has stood up to constant wear.
Looking like anther winner Captain
Which is better z5 or f11?
Instead of a phone for a hand-held screen, could you use an ipad if you want to look at a larger screen?
Yes, but you'd have to get some sort of tablet holder.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Of course. I was thinking it would work too if you'd sit at a table.
Cap! Can you trial the distance test? Return to home and low battery mode is good or not?
I think the distance was over 300 meters for me, but I did not do a real test.

Hi I have a question: Follow me will work if I inside a car which is moving 100KM/hour?
The answer would be no. This drone will follow your cell phone, but at a slow speed. Even if you had an expensive DJI drone, it could not follow you at 100 KM/H.
Thank you @@CAPTAINDRONE798
I would love to see it work. I do everything in the in the set up, yet when I get to toggle in to 5 and 7 to start the motors, nothing happens. Can not seem to unlock them. Any ideas?
Sounds like you have a GPS problem from not doing the calibration correctly. Take it out of GPS mode and try to start it.
Is it good for the money?
The review should tell you that
Can you compare sjrc f11 vs z5 vs bugs 5w?
@CAPTAIN DRONE
Sjrc z5 or the Mjx x103w?
What's more better than the price?
My remote control transmitter for my Z5 doesn't turn on. I've made sure that the battery is fully charged but nothing happens when I press the power button. Any ideas of what is happening and how to fix it?
Battery is probably dead.
RussellAllen55 l have exactly the same problem and the drone is brand new.
I just figured out today after a week that in order to turn the remote off you must hit the power button twice close together and hold the button down for 3 secs the 2nd time. This is probably a safety feature to keep from accidentally turning it off in flight. Good luck. Hope this helps.
What is the maximum altitude?
This drone has brushed motors, so it would not be very high (80 or 100 meters)
Lol half spark half parrot anafi type drone, I like it 👍
Lol it cracks me up how they class that as a 1080p camera though, poor lens may be?
I believe there are not very honest about it. If it is even 720p I will be surprised.
