- I was impressed when I first saw this drone. It felt very nice in the hands. For what it does, it does it well enough that most pilots would be satisfied.

Captain. a great video as always.just ordered a z5 after watching you fly it. Awsome Sir.
Captain Drone, I really appreciate your thorough and unbiased reviews. I ordered the SJRC Z5 5G model for its WiFi range. If it gives me 300 - 400 m. as advertised I'll be a happy camper. Haven't seen any other drone in this price range that provides close to 600 m. control distance or 14 minutes of flight time. Best part is its sub-250 gram weight so not (yet) subject to Transport Canada Drone Regulations. If you ever get bored I'd like to see a comparison review of the SJRC Z5 5G versus the C-Fly Dream (another sub 250 gram drone). I also hope at some point in the near future DJI comes out with A Spark Lite, perhaps a hybrid Ryze Tello/ DJI Spark combo giving us the low weight, high performance that would tempt me to bust the piggy bank wide open. Cheers!
Thanks Ron. I've been reviewing so many drones that their names are all becoming fuzzy to me. If a C-Fly Dream ends up on my doorstep, I will certainly review it. Enjoy the Z5!
I bought this drone and have had it for about a week now. Love it. Thanks for the recommendation. I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind answering. Thanks
I have the drone and am happy to answer questions if you still want to ask them
@@jacobc3935 Thank you. I think i have figured about everythibg out now. Headless mode, turning off the remote and something else had me for a while but rereading the manuel finally made sense. Thqnks for the offer. Illl hit you up if i need something. Thank you
Captain! I’m glad that your hands didn’t freeze! Your cold weather drone flying gloves are awesome! I am in the process of making a pair myself. Great review for a nice little drone that seems to fly very well. This would be another nice beginner drone and Christmas gift. Keep them coming-I always look forward to my notification that a new one is available! Until next time...😃🛩
Thanks! More videos on the way this week.
CAPTAIN DRONE Excellent!!
Looks quite a good deal for a gps drone with 1080p and adjustable camera, it also has a nice design.
I do not have it with anyone, indeed beautiful review but .... there was one, I say a review of
brushless drones which says that motors have a maximum life cycle of 6
hours ... if a few bumps happen even less ... divide the
price for 6 hours (maximum!) and then you see how much the drone costs you
per hour .... maybe you took it with 2 batteries for 120 €, a little bit for a maximum of 6 flight hours (probably much less)
Brushed motors do not last as long as Brushless motors. A brushed motor will last for hundreds of hours as long as you don't crash the drone. A brush-less motor will last for thousands of hours and you can crash the drone as much as you want and the motors will keep working.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 well that's weird but my mjx x103w is still doing well flying it everyday for like 2-3 months
I fly it 2-3 sometimes 4 times a day with 2 batteries
Love your reviews thinking of getting z5 upgrade iv got bugs 2c iv had over 12 months love it and iv got the tello love it thank u
Looks Military. I like it a lot! Thanks for posting!
i bought a copy of the drone on wish for 25 dollars and on the first flight it went flying to my neighbors backyard but i got it back because i got control back. at lest it had 1 day shipping.

Our Captain is in top form. If one has not "tasted" DJI or Autel I'm quite sure that this would be an option. Only one real issue is that there are no legs which means that it will be easy to damage the camera lens. Thank you for your enthusiasm.
Thank you, Steven, very nice GPS starter drone for the money. Thank you for the very nice review!
That’s a cool little drone! Great work captain!
Very nice capt! I dont know if its my hearing but those motors sounded a bit LIKE brushless motors. Is it just me??
They are brushed motors, but the good kind. There is a version of this drone for a much higher price with brushless motors.
I have the SJRC 5w20 , which I like . This a good looking folding drone with good features . Nice review Captain Drone ! New sub !
I was watching to see if this gave a Black Hole Sun... Doesn't look like it does! I like this Quad... Great price and features!
I was also wondering about that. I noticed the holystone hs 120d gives the black circle over the sun. Su to indicate a cheap lower grade light sensor. That's a deal breaker for me. Does anyone know for sure about this one?
I’ve got it. It’s cool and the only problem is that controller is not charging. Kind of a deal breaker:(
Sounds like either the wrong power source (insufficient) or a damaged cable.
I had just went to that site and bought one of those Z5s I got one with an extra battery for $120 total!
Good price!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Hi Captain! I just got it. Yay! Now I'm watching your video so I know how to use it LoL
Looks like a really good drone for the price.
Captain I have become a huge fan I have unsubscribed from several other channels you are precise and trustworthy I have dabbled with several drones for a year had 3 fly aways and purchased some that were crap. My question with all I spent I could have a DJI but water under bridge what GPS drone would you recommend for me on low budget around 100 dollars I am not at this point concerned a lot about photos I would like one that I can fly at a distance and if I lose orientation or go too far It will come back once I feel comfortable I will go to DJI any suggestions would be greatly appreciated If you have an assortment of batteries so hoping I could use them as back up but not a consideration if you recommend one thank you Captain keep up the awesome work I never leave your channel without learning something
Rick, thanks for the comments. For $100 that you want to come back to you would be a GPS drone. Sometimes you can get a GPS drone on sale for $100 or less. TomTop, Banggood or Gearbest have plenty of sales on now.
I just bought this drone because of this review... Definitely one of the better reviewers on UA-cam for sure....
Your reviews are really good and informative. I bought one of these a few days ago. Initially the drone flew off in a random direction. Then I calibrated the gyro (not mentioned in your review) and it flew nicely. The version I have is 5G 1080p. The handbook specifies a weight of 266g. When I weighed it on the kitchen scales it registered 277g but the scales are old and out of calibration (I checked using coins). But, being greater than 250g, I shall have to register it, which is a slight nuisance. Also the battery on this model is 1500mAh. Another review highlighted that the camera only rotates upwards to about 5 deg below horizontal, which is a shame. I’m looking forward to flying it in a big open area when the weather improves, which is pretty much non-stop rain here in England.
Mate, i just got this, and i have a problem with it. I cant seem to make it land. So i start the motors, i press up and it takes off a certain distance and after if i try to make it land by pressing down it doesn't stop the drone. Stays in the air.. either i have to make it crash into something or risk my fingers. It might be something im not doing?
Laur Adrian sounds a bit weird! Have you tried landing it manually by reducing the power (left stick) a little so that it descends? Mine lands OK. It does hover near the ground for a short time and then lands.
@@charlesarnold4963 yes , the only way i tried to land was manually by reducing the power. I press down on the left joystick and it reduce just a lilttle bit. It hovers alot untill it hits something
I will take it in a wide open space like i should, i only tried in the back yard , to give it q hance to test all the features without the risk of hitting something.
Laur Adrian when a quad otter gets near the ground there is the “ground effect”when the lift increases. Try cutting the motors when it is near the ground. I found the take off/land button worked OK for me. I have only flown it in my back garden, which is quite small. I have yet to try it properly in a wide open space. In the UK that is hard to find...
Can't wait to see the Z11 you mentioned in your Christmas Video. Hopefully bigger size will equalite to more features and higher quality camera and gimbal as well.
As soon as I get the OK to publish the review, it will be up.
Thanks a lot now I can get a new drone but can it fly indoors.
Yes it can just turn the GPS mode off
I love this drone..
Wow. I think this is also sold as the Contixo F22, but the SJRC label is cheaper...
Love this guy his videos great, and a good flyer :D
Hey, loved your video. Just wanted to know the difference between Ronshin, Dishykooker, Meiyieu, etc, models? Are they all the same? They have different prices. Any recommendations?
Honestly, I have no idea since I have no idea what those are.
The brushed motors are a deal breaker for me. In my experience you'll be lucky to get 6 hours flight time before a motor burns out. That's just my opinion, I would have probably bought one 2 years ago myself, of course 2 years ago 99.00 wouldn't buy much of anything, especially not one with GPS. I do believe for just maybe 50.00 more you could get a business model. As I said, just an opinion.
I would say tiny brushed motor technology is much better today. Just think, most of my power tools from 15 years ago are all brushed motors and they all work perfect. These little brushed motors will last years as long as they don't get dirt/liquids in them.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 your right, everything has come a long way, but I have still burnt lots of brushed motors from use(I Used them a lot, but took good care, letting them cool between flights) as far as brushed tool go, if there used for work everyday, you will be changing brushes about once a year. By no means am I trying to put your review down, I just believe if this is going to be a long time hobby for someone they should stay away from brushed motors. I race quads, which dumps amperage through my motors, and usually the bearings go before the motor burns. As I said its just my experience, and opinion, so everyone take it as you wish, we all don't have to agree about everything to get along.
@@RCOverKill SJRC F11 now on AliExpress for €114. With brushless motors.
What is the different between brush and brushless motor?
@@HEYTER_ a brushed motor is powered by dc current by way of 1 positive wire, and 1 negative and had brushes touching the armature to make it run. The a brushless motor is powered by three wires, a positive, a negative, and a signal wire. Brushed motors need to be replaced after 6 to 10 hours of flifhr
A brushless lasts usually until the bearings wear out, and that takes countless hours. You can google it youwant further info . That's the basics. There are lots with brushless motors out for 150 and up that will last a much longer time.
I like your videos. Very complete explanation. As the RC monitor does not, I would like to know if it had lost telemetry information in the application video in long range
In long range you will lose all information from your phone screen.
Hello, I was just curious about where to go to buy the higher grade camera so I could upgrade. I would like to replace my existing for higher res shots. Thanks in advance!
There is an upgrade for the F11 but it is over $100. It is not worth it to upgrade.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 ahhh...okay. I am curious if the prices will drop to have a backup or upgrade option. Okay, have a great day and thanks again!
HI, maybe you can halp me, i buyed this drone and a microSD card.
But the videos the drone save on the card are not openable, the pictures work fine and videos from other sources on the card work fine only the videos saved by the drone are broken.
What can it be ?
Also the drone was selled as 5G but is only 2.4G from china, so maybe its just a scam..
What type of computer are you trying to view the photos on? If it is a MAC, then it won't work because the formatting of the card is not readable in a MAC. Also, the other problem could be the SIZE of the card. The Z5 only likes a 16 GIG card or smaller (8 Gig works even better), and the card must be formatted on a PC.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Win10 and card is formatted. But its a 128GB card, this must be the problem.
Thx for the quick answer :D
This is a clone ( or the opposite ) of the deerc de 25 from Holystone ! May be the maker is the same ! Only the distributor change !
Pardon my asking but what app are you using on your phone to access the camera of the drone?
No idea because this is an old video and I don't keep drones for very long. If it is not shown in the video, then I can't tell you.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 alright thanks anyway
The color of the video from the drone is a bit grey.
Very low contrast and color saturation (I hope that was the correct word. It's late in Germany and I am to lazy to look it up 😂)
Mate , i have the same drone, and i cant make it land. After it takes off it stays in the air, obviously i can go higher but when i try to take it down its hovering above ground and it doesnt want to land, i have to crash it first....even if i keep pressing down....
Try calibrating the GYRO before takeoff. This resets everything to zero.
I'm just not a huge fan of looking at the unstabilised imagery from a drone. I've been using my home-built drone utilising the Drift mode in Ardupilot (DJI A3 has drift mode I believe also) but I'm yet to attach a camera. But I'm thinking it would be a much more enjoyable viewing experience. Wish these little drones, with fixed cameras, could add Drift mode.

Thank you. Yes, I"ve already found it out at their support chat. But unfortunately this great discount code has been expired.
Yes, they usually only run for 30 days.
Sir having just bought one, I'm a drone newbie! How do I calibrate the thing indoors? Mine is stuck on the app searching for GPS, which it won't find. I tried the top left button, still no motor spin.
GPS does not exist indoors
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I know that, how do just set up the gyroscope, I think I said, I tried the headless mode button, still says searching for gps
@@johnh10000 all depends on the drone. You go through the calibration motions indoors and on some drones it lets you fly and on others you have to read the manual and see if there is a button you hold down to turn off the GPS. This is a very old drone and it is long gone from my collection so I can’t help you further
Is that wat the live feed is like and wat sort of distance can u get with live feed 5g and would u pick this drone or jjrc x8 cetus ?
Darren Pearse it’s about 120 metres of live transmission depending on how much interference there is. About 600 metres of controller range
Is it good for the money?
The review should tell you that
Great video. I give it a cold thumbs up.
That is nice. I'm still waiting for the Mavic Air clone that has all its functions but not the $1000 price tag. As for now I'm thoroughly enjoying the Bugs 5W
The Bugs 5W is also my favorite new addition. You have good taste in Drones
I just watched your building inspection video. Good idea put that Bugs 5W to work its fast, stable, and pretty quite.
@@mrgreen8887 Thanks, it was within my price range but what a world of difference from the $35 toys. Stable flight, can't lose it, movable camera...
So i’m going to buy this drone but i have 1 question, can it cirkel you?
Yes, I believe so.
CAPTAIN DRONE thanks for responding🤗. Oké thats good to know
Could you possibly do a full review on its better version, the SJRC F11? There isn't a single English or helpful review on it. On paper it looks amazing and the few Asian videos I viewed it looked very amazing but still need a detailed English review.
My last video of December 24th shows the F11 and explains why there are no videos.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 oh I missed that one. I been following you for a few months now by the way you're my favorite drone review guy. Thank you for the detailed reviews you give us.
camera quality is pretty bad but considering it's only $100 it's not that too shabby
Hi there could you tell me if you have to calibrated every time you fly thanks
Just bought this drone because i thought it was under 250g but the booklet says it's weight is 266g with battery?
Perhaps they changed the battery? The drone was designed from the start to be at 250grams and under.
I have just purchased this drone (the 5G version) and it seems ok. However.. I'm having an odd problem. It only records like verticle, if that makes sense. I flip my phone sideways and it's all distorted and no good. The video saved in my phone is fine, it's just the video on the card. Any idea how I can fix this, or am I screwed?
That happened to others as well. It is due to the device you are using to read the video file (happens to more people with Macs). People with Macs download the VLC Media Player and all is well. If you have a PC, try a different video player.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 wow, never thought of that.. also never had this issue with any devices though. Thanks man I'll give that a go. I actually just popped it into my phone and was like wth!! That did the trick even in my phone! Crisis averted hahaha Thanks again man! Great videos too by the way!

I've been doing some research and I narrowed it down to 2 competitors. The Z5 and the C-fly dream. I was wondering if you could help me decide which one I should buy, if it isn't too much trouble. @@CAPTAINDRONE798 yes captain it must have been the calibration. took it to a more open space and it flew brilliant. thankyou for your help.
Where can we find spare batteries? Or better yet the materials to build spare batteries?
eBay or used online websites
Thanks Captain Drone!
Hi Cptn Drone. Big Fan. Thank you for the reviews. Not my first drone.
Just for fun the Z5 that was purchased thru geekbuying and it is having an issue with what I am guessing is the bearing or the housing of the rod that connects to the gear which connects to the motor. The motor spins freely and there is no visible damage on the gear but when I connect and spin both of them on the same spot ther is a click and the other props don't do that.
I reached out to geekbuying and its been under 30 days of purchase but they are telling me that because of the shipping cost and the time it would take to ship it back to China that they would offer me a $40 refund. Not to happy with the offer. Any suggestions?
And do you recommend the c fly dream? looking for drone at 250grams and under from now on... Any insight on dji spark 2? Thanks Cap
Drones that have brushed motors usually will have a gear system. The gear system is designed to stop turning when the prop hits something. Dirt can get into the gears and causes noises or cause them not to work. The X9 Heron and C Fly Dream are similar. I like the X9 Heron.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you, I appreciate it.
Hi. I ordered the Ronshin Camara aerea SJRC Z5 5G WiFi FPV con 1080P cámara Doble GPS...from Amazon which was advertised in the white box but it came in a Silver box. Is it possible that it is a fake?
Highly comparable to my HS120D. Same features. Identical transmitter w/ the same annoying beeps. HS120D different design doesn't fold. It's more of the swollen X shape. The battery doesn't have the indicator lights on it either. $149.
Have you noticed the hs 120d giving you the black circle for the sun when aimed towards it?
@@ghfjjgk yes and everything else is washed out. I can't film in the sun's direction on a sunny day. Bummer.
Do the drones have a parachute option (automatic or manual) or shock absorbers on the drone's landing legs? And if not, would it be better if it had these features?
Nope. It adds weight so such items would be after market add ons.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Okay, yeah weight would be added. But would it be worth safety over performance? Perhaps better batteries will give a longer flight time.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 yeah, i've seen some after market parachutes but never with the drones. Strange why some mfrs don't offer it with their drone.
Captain D, is there a SJRC website? Or is this drone manufacturer by another company?
Most likely the company name is different than SJRC. Many drones in China are manufactured by different companies and then sold to many larger companies, so you end up with many drones looking the same, all with different brand names.
I was wondering if you have figured out how to disable the beep or quiet it? Thanks for the reviews I really enjoy them.
Hi Brent. I have not looked into it, so I really don't know if you can. Almost every drone I have received that has a camera which is controlled electronically to move up and down, makes a beep sound. I think the Chinese believe this is necessary.... not sure why.
Captain this looks like the Contixo f22, are they the same form and function?
It could very well be the same. Chinese companies sell their drones to multiple companies under different brands.
Instead of a phone for a hand-held screen, could you use an ipad if you want to look at a larger screen?
Yes, but you'd have to get some sort of tablet holder.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Of course. I was thinking it would work too if you'd sit at a table.
My remote control transmitter for my Z5 doesn't turn on. I've made sure that the battery is fully charged but nothing happens when I press the power button. Any ideas of what is happening and how to fix it?
Battery is probably dead.
RussellAllen55 l have exactly the same problem and the drone is brand new.
@@ewajarmoszuk8823 I discovered that the remote has a short in the board that leaves the battery power light on, (dimly), when it's turned off and that causes the battery to drain out in the box. I had to take the remote apart and take the battery out and figure out a way to unplug the battery after each use. I made a hole in the remote case that allows me to unplug the battery when I'm not using it. It's ugly but it works.
I have pulled mine out several times with a dead battery. I couldn't figure out how to turn the remote back off thought it was on a timer or something. NOT THE CASE!!! I just figured out today after a week that in order to turn the remote off you must hit the power button twice close together and hold the button down for 3 secs the 2nd time. This is probably a safety feature to keep from accidentally turning it off in flight. Good luck. Hope this helps.
Hi Captain Drone, I've noticed that you tested both, do you think it is better Z5 or sg900s drone? Thanks

Is this Drone the 5G WiFi version ? Or 2.4G 👍
Which is better z5 or f11?
Nice. The small chinese companies are getting better. This drone only needs a better stabilized camera and it would be perfect drone for many buyers. A pitty that nearly all cheap drones are 10 percent away from being perfect.
So very true. The drones are becoming twice as good as they were from last year at half the cost, yet although the camera resolution is improving, many are still lacking a gimbal.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 That's what I thought but look at your link and you have a choice of 2.4 or 5g Thanks
OK, I did not realize they had the option for both.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Yes so is one better than the other ? Thanks again
@@norm231159 Yes, 5Ghz is best because it means better video back to your phone and sometimes a longer range. You need a phone that can handle 802.11ac to use 5GHZ.
I brought it and it’s good
Lol half spark half parrot anafi type drone, I like it 👍
Lol it cracks me up how they class that as a 1080p camera though, poor lens may be?
I believe there are not very honest about it. If it is even 720p I will be surprised.
I've said it looks good and I've complained a little bit. But I do kinda like this little drone and I going to look into getting one. 😁
Is this essentially the Contixo f22 w/o the belly drift cam? Looks like different app as well..

Do you guys know how to fix this problem I charge all of my batteries but for some reason after flying it for a few seconds the lights start flashing red and it lands itself and every time I take off it just keeps doing that
The battery is not fully charged. Not all the cells have a full charge. Try a different USB cable and/or USB power source (you may not be getting enough amps). Don't charge off a computer.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thank you for the reply this might sound dumb but I'm going to try to use the charger it came with instead of the ones I had at my house hopefully that works
@@IR088Y I'm just a random dude scrolling through the comments with no drone expertise, but I'm pretty sure the cable it comes with is designed to help balance charge the cells
Hi I have a question: Follow me will work if I inside a car which is moving 100KM/hour?
The answer would be no. This drone will follow your cell phone, but at a slow speed. Even if you had an expensive DJI drone, it could not follow you at 100 KM/H.
Thank you @@CAPTAINDRONE798
About how much does this Drone cost?
The price changes everyday and depends on your country. Look below the video and you'll find a link that takes you to the drone store.
Nice video! Nice drone. But I really like those gloves! Where do you get them and how much?
I picked them up awhile ago. Here is a video from back then: ua-cam.com/video/0KSZKmuyFjc/v-deo.html
Which is the heavy duty Hoodie? Not the zipper one.
The zippered hoodie is what I consider to be a light material yet TEE SPRING calls it heavy duty I believe. I've had mine for a few months and it has stood up to constant wear.
Where can I currently find this? It's out of stock everywhere.
Geekbuying.com is great for this check the description and you should find the direct link
