In the light novel, Enri has gained the Classes Sergeant, Commander, and General, which you have to earn one before the next, and because that the theory is because she had the General class, the true ability of the horn activated when she blew it.

Shub-Niggurath is a lovecraftnian deity. A lot of media, including videogames, use her name and appearance as a monster or invocation, including yggdrasil in this case.
She is called "The forest's black skeep with her 10,000 children". And she's portrayed as a dark and twisted fertility goddess, with a bizarre figure compose of lots and lots of eyes, mouths, tendrills, and goat's feet. And yes, her babies are just like the ones in this episode

You can see in this episode that Ains has come to terms with the fact he is no longer human. He has also started to reconsider his original goal of finding his friends, his pause there was more than to wait to see if he was targeted but he wanted to see if anyone from his guild was in the new world with him. If they had been he would have cancelled his spell and walked away. But he realised he was on his own and the only thing he can do now is to nurture his NPC companions. When you watch season 4. There will be a scene which puts it all into perspective.

"Oh man, what she gonna do?" Well, she said she's not as good as Sol (means Solution, which is the slime maid, who can consume a person and hold it in her body for days, slowly digesting them while they are still alive), but she is a good torturer as well. She is a cleric and a sadist and she uses her cleric skills to help with torturing. She torture them and then heal them, torture and heal, until they beg to be killed. Barbro was alive for HOURS, before she actually killed him.
Yeah and the Red Caps are very very strong, at least for the new world. No human under hero, is not able to survive them. They are actually level 45 or 50, if i remember it correctly. Even stronger that Death Kinghts who are level 35.

She got the class upgrades needed to use the full potential of the item. That item was given in a low level in Yggdrassil so the players haven´t had the class upgrades to use it as a force summoner and only summoned 12 goblin... now that she is a Sargent+commander+general (trained goblins+directed a fight+is the chief of the village) she triggered the ocult skill of the horn. Even Momonga did not know that was possible.
Edit: I remembered something during your reaction. The level and amount of the army Enri summoned made her the 3rd most powerfull force on the region only after the kingdom and Nazarik
Now for the episode 12... The honor that Ainz have shown on that battle towards Gazeph is really important because contrast with all the others on the battlefield. This battle is for make a footprint on this wolrd history and this war is for made it into the memory of the world at a DNA level.

The horn normaly only summons a few low level goblins like she did earlyer. That's part of why Ainz gave her two he thought it was just a low level trash item. While Ainz has an imense amount of knowlage about ygdrasil items and mechanics he's not all-knowing, It's possible that the Horn has some secodary requirements for this more effective use that Ainz just never knew about.
Quite possibly the "horn of the Goblin General" needs to be used by someone with the [goblin general] class or simmilar to achinve the better effect, a class that Enri would qualify for in theory.

    • @Goudlock

    • @Djorgal
      @Djorgal Місяць тому

It's stated in the novel that the Horn has a hidden effect that was never discovered in Yggdrasil, so Ainz wouldn't know about it. The novel also says there are three requirements to activate the effects. Said requirements are not explicitly stated, but they can be inferred:
      1. To have the "General" class, which Enri acquired, as can be seen in her character sheet.
      2. To have loyal goblin subordinates (or some variation around that idea, but for Enri, her relationship with the goblin troop is obviously fulfilling one of the requirements)
      3. To be facing an army when using the Horn.
Still, even with the hidden effect. As far as Ainz is concerned, it does remain somewhat of a trash item. Lupusregina heavily hints that redcaps are the lowest level goblins summonable in Nazarick's library at around level 43. Enri's army is very impressive by the new world's standard, but it's nothing to a level 100 player.

    • @Djorgal
      @Djorgal Місяць тому

The novel doesn't say exactly what the requirements are, but it does explicitly say that there are three.
Her character sheet shows she has acquired the "General" class since last time she used a horn. So, having the General class would obviously be requirement #1 to use the Horn of the Goblin General.
Requirement #2 is likely to have loyal goblin subordinates, be in good standing with goblins, have goblins consider you family. Something like that.
Requirement #3 is likely to be in great need or to be currently facing an army. It makes sense that it would provide an army of similar size as the one you're facing, but it could also be a coincidence. I would think it's unlikely because Barbro's army already had some losses against the ogres and wouldn't be exactly 5000 and I would think the goblin strategist would have given an exact number if the full goblin army consisted of 4982 members.
But I admit it's possible, and it's fun to think about. Maybe the Horn rounds the army size to the nearest thousand, or something like that?

    Commentary Episode 11 S3
Hello friend, thank you very much for watching Overlord.
¿But what can I say about this chapter, which causes me so many mixed feelings? The Madhouse studio has always been known for impeccable animation, so the gruesome CGI in this episode is something that no one expected, especially Overlord fans.
Luckily the chapter is good enough for us to understand everything that happens and there is very little to explain, but I would like to make a few points anyway.
Now let's talk about the chapter.
In the novel it is explained to us that after the attack by the false knights, Villa Carne was very depopulated and they did not have enough people to continue to exist, so they began to invite others, such as the former adventurer Brita. But the vast majority of those who joined them were the few survivors from the other villages that were destroyed by the false knights led by Nigan in the first season when they were bringing Gazef into his trap.
Therefore, when they see that the knights of the kingdom attack them, many relive the traumatic experience they suffered. All this, coupled with the gratitude they feel for their savior Ainz Own Goal is what makes them decide to fight to the death.
The Horn of the Goblin General is one of the few expendable items in the game that could not be converted into data crystals. By YGGDRASIL standards, the twelve summoned goblins are weak and are normally only used to buy time for the summoner. But it turned out that this item, considered garbage by all, had a hidden effect that allows you to summon an entire army. In the novel they have not made it clear what the conditions are for the Horn to reveal its true power. However, based on Prince Barbro's assault of Carne Village, these met conditions may likely include: An enemy army of greater numbers, the summoner's stronghold under siege, a level up in the Commander class or a previously summoned Goblin Troop.
Of course, Ainz didn't know about this. No one in the game of Ygdrassil ever discovered this secret ability of the Horn. That's how incredible Enri turned out to be, because not only was she the first, but she is inadvertently raising so many levels in the commander class, that she will surpass Nfirea in strength and resistance before she knows it.
The ending is as you saw, Lupusregina not only came to clean up, but she even decided to taunt her victims by summoning a different group of Goblins to kill them, maximizing their feeling of helplessness.
The last line of this chapter in the novel reads as follows: “It was only after thirty minutes that Prince Barbro was finally permitted to embrace the sweet release of death.”

Ok so they made Enri the chief for a reason. By making her the chief the village "is hers" so the goblins would be more likely to stick around and defend than grab her and flee a great threat.
The horn.... no-one knows. Enri has gained levels in command, seargent, and general, rules a village under attack, was losing. Any of those factors or combination could be the reason.
Why 5k Gobbos, probs to match enemy numbers with a weak army... but it's not scaled for the new world so it ends up being crazy powerful ( lvl20s yggdrasil weak, new world top adventurs may reach 20).
Ainz exposes himself to draw out any players.
The spell Ainz uses is a reference to the Cthulu god Shub-Niggurath, the dark mother who's young are called goats hence the bleating.
In yggdrasil more players would resist the insta-kill effect of the offering part, but given the imperial army being so low levels (lvl1-2 peasants) and no resistance effect it massacred a massive number. Think Yggdrasil record was like 2-3 goats.

The worst part about the magic horn, is that only the author knows the exact requirements to unlock the goblin army and he is deliberately keeping his mouth quiet.
We do know that Enri (who just earned the nickname, the bloody warlord) gained levels in Ygdrasil classes, most likely due to having the goblins summoned.
Everything they did earned Enri XP, allowing her to level up.
They actually hinted at her leveling a couple of times.
Like how she was getting stronger and more buff, even to the point where she was strong enough to dent her kitchen knife.
But the biggest hint was in the fight with the barghest, where she commanded the goblins to duck and there was an effect.
She was probably giving them a buff right there
As for the giant monsters and them being called baby goats, it is actually all in the spell Ainz cast.
Ainz called out "Tribute to dark fertility, lä! Shub-Niggurath!"
Shub-Niggurath is a god from the Lovecraft universe, like Cthulhu and such.
Shub-Niggurath is called the Black goat with the thousand young, hence why they where braying like goats
The creatures Ainz summoned are her children, creatures called Dark young of Shub-Niggurath.

    Lore tidbits:
    Starting with Episode 11:
So, noone is 100% sure about why Enri was able to summon the Goblin Army but once summoned she was granted the title of Honorable General Enri Emmott. The author has never stated the reason but if you think back to the Barghest fight, she commanded the goblins to Duck to avoid the chain attack.
The Goblin Army that Enri summoned is the 5th most power military force in the entire New World.
The cg does a disservice to this story in this episode. The goblin army is supposed to be less cartoon-ish and more like the urekai from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, brutal, grimy and devastatingly powerful. In the LN it describes how the goblin army effortlessly cuts down the humans and marches over their piling corpses to continue their forward march towards the prince.
Prior to the prince showing up Enri was actually having a hard time because they are having trouble maintaining food supplies for the villagers, ogres and goblins, but now that she has 5000 MORE people to feed it's a blessing and a curse.
    Moving on to episode 12:
In Ygdrasil the super tier magic Dark Tribute was used but the most anyone had ever successfully summoned was 3 "baby goats", Ainz summoned 5 and was super proud of this achievement, therefore he demanded people applaud him, he had summoned more than ANYONE EVER.
The reason the Baharuth soldiers were shaking is because just 1 of those death Knights is consider an unstoppable killing machine, just 1 is enough to wipe out their entire army but they watch as 50 march past them.
When Ainz is revealed outside of the fort Marques Raevan immediately felt how powerful Ainz was but before he could call the adventurers he hired they were already approaching him because they felt it too. As shown both Raevan and Gazef immediately realize they MUST cast away their pride as men and Knights and run as fast as they possibly can and pray they survive.
The death tolls are stated in the next episode so I won't divulge them here.
In the LN when the "baby goats" are attacking the army the author used an entire page to graphically describe the sound of the squish under their hooved feet.
Gazed used two skills when facing off against the baby goats, both of which worked but he's too low of a level for them to be effective. The goats DO in fact have weaknesses but he's not high enough level to see them. The Possibility Sense skill that he used basically let him get a feel for his crit rate and the probabilities of his attacks against the goats. Both skills showed him only that he was going to die.

The Goats is a reference to HP Lovecraft, the creator of the Cthulhu mythos. When Ainz casts his spell, he chants "Iä Shub-Niggurath". When Ainz says that he's an undead, after the goats start doing the splat splat, what he means to say is that he feels absolutely nothing when killing humans- you know with the whole not having emotions thing he's got going. (pragmatism x1000)
But Nimble understands it as though he's undead and therefore relishes in the act of killing, which... is understandable considering the circumstances, but long story short; what's going to be relayed to the emperor is that Ainz loves murder and he just made things a lot harder for himself with making friends.

He is kind of contradicted by the fact that undead are widely known to hate all things living, which is why Nimble took Ainz's words the way he did. That said, Ainz's lived experience is that undead are incapable of strong feelings like hate, so it made sense to him.

    Commentary Episode 12 S3
Hello friend, thank you very much for seeing here. To many it may have seemed that this chapter was not too bad, but for the readers of the novel and the manga it was quite disappointing because it should have been the best chapter of the entire season.
Once again, some terrible CGI makes a chapter that should have been memorable barely passable. Of course, this could be due to financial reasons or perhaps they didn't think the series would have a fourth season. But surely it is also due to an event.
I will not go into details, but apparently a terrible incident occurred in Japan, where a man went mad and caused the death of many people. Now, we all know that when someone is crazy enough to murder, he doesn't care if he is watching movies, listening to rap or reading Shakespeare... ¡Anything will become an excuse for him to murder! But it is one thing to know it and another to feel it. It turned out that the culprit watched a lot of anime of the GORE genre and since then there was a strong social pressure for all anime to be "Family Friendly".
Luckily this silly trend of censoring art is already dying out, but at the time this season came out it was still going strong and ruined not only Overlor but entire franchises of Animes, like Sekai Saikyou's Arifureta Shokugyou, which was projected to be one of the best ever made, full of fast fighting, lots of violence, comedy and with quite graphic action, but it ended up becoming a terrible compendium of simplicity, poor CGI, a lousy soundtrack and too much pastel colors.
Anyway, let's talk about the chapter: The first thing we see is Ainz casting his spell, as always waiting a bit to tempt any player who might be hiding to attack him. But he eventually gets tired and uses a Cash Item to shorten the waiting time. And this entire chapter is focused on Super Tier Magic, but due to the bad animation, there is a lot of terror that this terrible spell should have caused in the viewer. The novel represents it with the following text.
[¿What on earth happened? Nobody could answer that question.
Every living creature that comprised the left wing of the Kingdom’s army -horses, conscripts, knights, nobles, everything- suddenly keeled over and collapsed on the ground like puppets whose strings had been cut.
The ones who realized the answer first were the Imperial troops, ranged against them.
It took a while for the human mind to properly parse the events that had just transpired. So, after a short delay, as a terrible understanding dawned upon them, the Imperial army was gripped by shouts of panic.
After watching Ainz Ooal Gown deploy his magic circle, they had assumed that he was casting some sort of spell. That much they could understand.
However, ¿who could have possibly imagined it?
¿Who could have imagined the horrific spell that had been cast here?
The spell that was cast had slain 70'000 people (¡More than the entire Imperial army!) in an instant, utterly and completely snuffing their lives out.
Unable to believe their eyes, the Imperial knights prayed to whatever gods they believed in.
They prayed that the people of the Kingdom were not dead.
They prayed that such terrible magic did not exist in this world.]
Pretty shocking, isn't it? And it turns out that all that needs to be explained in this episode is the spell that Ainz used, a type of Super Tier Magic that allows you to summon creatures called "Dark Youngs" in exchange for the lives of several enemies, which in this case were 70,000. men of the kingdom
These are based on the mythology of the American horror author HP Lovecraft. Shub-Niggurath is a terrible female deity who sent her children, the "Dark Youngs", to collect the sacrifices that her devotees make to her.
Under normal circumstances, each summoning of the Dark Youngs would only produce one entity, which was itself a cause for celebration for players. Although being able to summon two of them was considered a rarity, Ainz broke the record by managing to summon five Dark Youngs, which is the highest number known so far. However, the Dark Youngs will eventually disappear after a certain amount of time elapses.
In the novel they are described as follows:
[Suddenly, a vast tree grew from the black tar that covered the earth.
No, that was nothing as pleasant as a tree.
At first, there was only a single trunk, but then it multiplied. Two, three, five, ten… they waved in a wind that was not there. What was growing there... were tentacles.
    “MEEEEEEHHHH!!”
Suddenly, they heard the adorable bleating of a goat. And it wasn’t just one goat. The sound of a herd of goats seemed to have come from nowhere.
As though drawn by the sound, the asphalt writhed up, and it gave birth to something.
It was something that was far too strange, too unnatural.
It was ten meters in height. If you added the length of the tentacles, that figure became unclear.
At a glance, it resembled some sort of turnip. In place of leaves, it had numberless black tentacles, and its body was a slab of meat covered in raised lumps. Below that were five legs, like those of a goat’s, tipped with black hooves.
Fissures appeared on its body -that thick slab of meat covered in lumps- peeling and splitting with the sound of something shattering. These cracks were not limited to just one area. And then...
    “MEEEEEEHHHH!!”
The adorable bleating of goats rang forth from those openings. They were savage maws that drooled without end.
    There were five of them.
They revealed their spine-chilling forms to everyone on the Kattse Plains.
The Dark Young of the Black Goat.
And their level was over 90.]
So yes, the spell Ainz used was quite OP and unnecessarily cruel. According to Princess Renner, the total number of casualties caused by the spell during the Katze Plains Massacre was over 180,000 deaths.
I have to clarify that in medieval wars the number of deaths was quite low because there were no firearms and the armors were excellent, hence the usual thing would be that between 300 and 500 people died in each battle and, if one was unlucky, maybe 1,000. Everything changed with the World Wars, because the death toll was unthinkable and for the first time a new disease appeared: War Trauma.
Something similar happened to the people of the Empire in this chapter: They were simply terrified by the sight of such devastation and even begged that their enemies could be saved, the more the merrier.
That's why Nimble asks Ainz: "¿Are you a demon?" because he wishes to continue with such a massacre even though it's not necessary, because the Kingdom's army is escaping. But Ainz doesn't feel anything for his emotional suppression and gets confused, thinking that Nimble has made a mistake about his race and that's why he clarifies: "I'm undead".
From the beginning, the emperor's plan was to ask Ainz to use a spell to demonstrate his power and make other nations take the threat seriously. He also wanted all the neighboring countries to somehow "understand" why the empire became a (forced) ally of Nazarick. But the degree of devastation of the spell completely exceeded Jirvich's and everyone's predictions, so instead of solidarity, what he will get is the hatred of the whole world, because everyone will find out that "The emperor asked Ainz to launch THAT spell."
So we could say that the plan turned out so well, that in the end it will completely backfire on the Empire.
Well, I hope you liked this comment and that the information was useful. The following is the last chapter of the season!

Without clues or info from the novel you can guess that Enri treat all the goblins with respect. As Enphi said before she's the only one call them all by name, she connect a bond between her and them. And also the goblins in the game probably all dead before they can form a bond with their summoner. So the condition might not just be the job that she obtained. Btw the 5000 in number probably just a coincident.

    11:45 - Goblin Horn
Enri recieved 2 goblins horns from Ainz. In the game it normally only summons that small group of goblins, which is why Ainz was so surprised. In the light novels we find out that there are special conditions which if you meet them it will summon a goblin army. It never mentions those exact conditions, but we can guess.
The item is unique in that the goblins don't disappear like normal summons. They are effectively permanent, so potentially one of the conditions is keeping them alive for X amount of time. Since Yggdrasil was a game and people didn't really care about the summons they would have just thrown them at monsters, so 99% of the time they probably died, so Ainz never learned about this secret condition.

So about how the Horn of the Goblin General works. The Horn of the Goblin General is as Ainz said a low level trash item that when blown summons less than 20 low level goblins. That was all it was known as in the game Yggdrasil, no one in the history of the game ever discovered the true power of the item. The item is in fact a mid level item capable of summoning a massive army so long as 3 conditions are met. The exact conditions are unknown however they are heavily theorized and these are the leading theories. The summoner must use a Horn of the Goblin General and treat the summoned goblins well gaining a high reputation and not like tools(that was how they were treated in Yggdrasil as throw away tools); The summoner must possess the Commander or General(though this might be a new world exclusive) job class which is obtained by gaining the Sergeant and Commander job classes Enri obtained this by leading the summoned goblins and the village; The summoner must be in combat with the goblins and/or be facing a large army when they blow a second Horn of the Goblin General. There are a few other possible theories for what the conditions are but these are the most likely. With these conditions it makes sense that no one unlocked it's secret power before. No one treated the goblins well they were just weak throw aways in the eyes of players and the goblins never survived long due to their level, the Commander and General job classes are not something players would want to obtain as they are weak classes that don't provide much compared to other classes they could take, and it was rare to face any kind of army the greatest known army in the history of Yggdrasil was the 1000 person assault on The Great Tomb of Nazarick and in a situation like that low level goblins are useless as the players can summon level 90 creatures and Nazarick has impenetrable defenses anyway and some weak goblins wouldn't add anything.

Ygdrassil was not like other games and one core mechanic was information. People would gain equipment and would not know outright what it did and that horn was just like that.
Ains had them cause he is a hoarder, but he thought they were trash items and as such he and no one else bother to experiment with them.
Enri gain levels as a comander and general, also kept her goblins for a long time and bonded with them is belive those filled some requirements to unleash the power of the horn and i believe the horn will call upon an army that matches the size.of the force faced at the time. The force the idiot prince had was 5000 and tje goblin army has that number too.

Regarding the Horn of the Goblin General. The creators of the game Yggdrasil created a ton of secrets and their game apparently was very much immune to data mining. Players had to discover synergies and secrets on their own. Ainz's special class Overlord, if I recall right, is one such secret classes that he had to discover himself.
In this instance, the power of the low tier Horn of the Goblin General had 3 requirements unknown to make use of it and it was always a mystery why such a weak item was given the name "of the Goblin General". Of those 3, the only one we are all fairly sure of is that there is a need for a Commanding type job, which Enri unknowingly obtained through her life experience with the Goblins. The skill related to that job first appeared when she ordered the goblins to duck to avoid an attack and it raised their evasion rate or something to that effect.
Another theorized requirement is to have never killed a goblin, a near impossible feat for any gamer who played the game normally because... Well, you gotta level up, and goblins are enemies. In fact, you probably noticed but some people have stated what those requirements are with a lot of certainty, but they're just theorized requirements. The author has been very vague about details. Maybe you needed to be part of a siege. Maybe you needed to already have had a summoned group of goblins. Maybe you needed to fight a group of enemies that were in higher numbers than you were. Whichever fits in the other two requirements to have all 3, nobody in the community knows for sure.
The result is as you see, an army of goblins. They are considered low level based on the general idea of where their levels are based on comments from the author, with the goblin strategist likely being the highest level unit in the army and potentially the only unit above level 35, which as a baseline a Death Knight is level 35. And the only way we know is because the Goblin Strategist was stated to be above the level of a former Adamantite adventurer. Red caps might also be generally high for low level creatures. But effectively, because the overall average/median level of people in the world they're in is so low, this army of Low Leveled goblins would appear like an army of Elite Knights and Hero Strength goblins to the humans.
Also. The La Shub Niggurath is effectively a sort of instant death/summoning spell. At least I believe it's an instant death type spell. Either way, the goal is to destroy a ton of mobs to summon a high tier unit. As Ainz stated, he probably hit a new record because the range of the spell while pretty wide is unlikely to kill enough units to summon so many of them. As for why they are sheeps. Well, Shub Niggurath is effectively based on an eldritch horror, and the reason they're sheeps is a reference to that. I recommend looking up the official art work for them, they're quite horrific. Shame they probably didn't have the budget to go all out and animate them in their full grotesque horrific form and had to deal with a CGI model instead.

it is said there are 2 conditions that caused a larger army to spawn from the horn.
her leadership skill at this point in the story has progressed 3 levels.
the horn got a buff from being used "on home territory whilst its under attack"
the part where Enri beats the goblin with arm wrestling was not the goblin pretending. that was legit, because the goblins are her followers she earns XP whenever the goblins go out hunting. so she has been slowly leveling up too. another example of this is that her stamina has gotten really high, to the point where Enphirea is forced to create Stamina potions in order to keep up with certain nightly activities. (they are also married)
the reason the goblin made that "im very innocent" face after the arm wrestling was because he told that lie to the goblin kid, that Enri can kill a Barghest (the wolf monster from one of the previous episodes) bare handed.

    comment from some1 in Wiki:
I think people tend to overlook something about Enri. In the first episode where we return to Carne Village (after the Swords of Darkness), Enri dents the blade of the knife she's using in two places while offscreen.
Knives are typically made from hardened steel, hence why they chip and break rather than bending. But the damage Enri causes is clearly nonelastic deformation aka denting, evidenced by the bulbous, raised metal along the edges of the dents caused.
For Enri to have caused such damage, her physical strength has to be very high, especially for a human. She could probably break a grown man's arm, if she tried.
