OMG this is real gold , paul in the height of his career , and that band red hot and funking it up , this is so real and i miss it . oh ya the legend pino palladino on bass
Wow!! I thought I'd seen most/all versions of this great track but this has to be the best one, thanks for uploading. Totally awesome. Pino is in cracking form but Paul, the guitarist and the rest of the band are as well. I really like the lead guitarist's solos at the end (and the bass all the way through). And all so funky. For me, "Sex" was always the best track from "No Parlez" but I guess it was never going to get released as a single with such a name and subject :)
:-) HUGE memories here... I spent a good part of my youth watching The Tube, and I can assure you that the audience was pretty much ALWAYS like this: a few semi-dead girlies up front, and a dozen of chaps with punk hair dancing in the back rows. But the music was amazing, and the reason was that back then, even pop guys had bands that could really play. Pino here is a band all by himself. And BTW, this is one of my favourite Paul Young songs (yes, I bought "No parlez", on cassette, so I did listen to his other songs, besides the chart singles).
As far as I can remeber, this was before the time Level 42 became fashionable in the Club Circuit, with Mark King demonstrating his fabulous slapping technique. Pino did it too at that time, and that on a fretless bass! A whole new dimension. Had it ever done before? Anyway, I also liked the early Level 42 very much (Later on they became very commercial, top-40 and bland, and I lost interest). Good news: Lately, Mark King and his friends are reviving funk just for fun and not for commercialism!
OMG where is the energy from the crowd? Sex.. really and no movements from crowd. Hello I'm dancing now can't imagine what it would be like live.. Love it.
its the very example of being symbiotic ,i think if paul young never had pino playing with him he wouldnt be as successful and pino may not have the career he has now...it all worked out quite lovely eh? ....symbiosis its a beautiful thing eh? x
A great time for pop music. Drummer in Paul's band was also brilliant; not flash or busy, just drove the band forward. I can't recall his name, but his technician was called Colin. Pino Palladino is still the King of the Bass.
I agree! Every time the camera pans out to the crowd I think 'Why are you standing there like bloody zombies?' If I recall though, it was always like that on The Tube, a few punks would dance at the back but that was it.
@catravello I recorded it on video too, played it over and over, especially Everything Must Change. Somehow I lost the video during a house move so I put out a plea on the internet and a wonderful woman from France saw it. She had a disc with three of the songs on, she sent them to me and with her permission I have shared them here :D
Thanks for posting Kate. I don't suppose you have acquired a video of 'Playhouse' in the intervening 12 years? My parents taped 'Poirot' or some equally annoying detective show over my copy about 25 years ago😢
PINO PALLADINO IS THE SH*T....people hear him with john mayer and thinks OHHHH wow...i was 12 when this stuff was out...gary numan...don henly (of all people eagles fame) and paul young...pino for me was a generation before me...i could turn on my radio and hear this man play in MY TIME...pino means the world to me...just like james jamerson must have meant the world to him before it...it all goes hand in hand folks...
I'd forgotten how much I was in love with Paul young back in the 80's. i remember recording this on video tape and must have played it hundreds of times. Was he great or what? Fantastic singer - fantastic band really takes me back!!
i dont think those people watching realised how lucky they were to watch pino ,or how hard it is to play a fretless bass like that....genius !!
him and paul , what a pair. unreal.
Great band. On record it was a little restrained but live they kicked ass…hard!
OMG this is real gold , paul in the height of his career , and that band red hot and funking it up , this is so real and i miss it . oh ya the legend pino palladino on bass
pino plays bass like he has seven fingers on each hand....his playing is so frighteningly brilliant!
Wow!! I thought I'd seen most/all versions of this great track but this has to be the best one, thanks for uploading.

Funky as shit. Paul Young was one of the best singers the UK ever produced. He was awesome.
