Welcome to Our Daily Shred with Uncle Ben Eller, the ULTIMATE guitar workout play-along series! Think of me as your sherpa up the mountain of SHRED GUITAR. Grab your favorite guitar and work out with me using the onscreen TABs!
Today's workout is all about HAND SYNCHRONIZATION! You've GOT to develop your hand sync if you want to become the next Shreddy Kruger, and running this workout a couple times a week is exactly what you need to make it happen. Use the speed controls UA-cam has to find a comfy tempo (or, better yet, use the Guitar Pro file on my Patreon page), and let's RIP! 2 rounds of hand sync drills going up and down the neck, you can do this! Stay relaxed, and take breaks if you need to.
Playing my EBMM Luke III into the Fractal Axe FX III.
What kind of workout do you want to see on the next episode of Our Daily Shred? Let me know!

Ben is the only teacher that teaches us the most important parts of picking technique, especially when the pick needs to get the air air time on the last Stroke to change to the next string . Most teachers will never teach that even though they know about it .. ! Thank you Ben for ur great honest teaching!
Ben you have been making me laugh while learning since I can remember. Your finger exercises are tough, but the impossible EVH like the Hang em High BLEW MY MIND. I am one Ibanez short now!!!! It is now a weird tree in my backyard!
Here's a great tip to take help coordinate both hands and I guarantee it to work. Instead of using a metronome or drum machine to keep time for you try counting out aloud 8th notes (1&2&3&4&) whilst practising this exercise. Ben has the rhythm as 16th notes but playing 3 note per string exercise which means the quarter falls on a different note each time, that should feel awkward initially. Also try 16th note triplets (6 notes per quarter). I guarantee your hands will lock in with your counting out loud.
Gonna worship the fretboard in about an hour..
In the name of the volume, the gain, and the holy tubes..
Report back with your findings!!
@@BenEller ALL your Ibanez sound better than this Music Man. It´s neck pickup sounds specially bad!
Can’t wait for you to build out this series so we can schedule a whole week of these!
yes! 7 days of SHRED!
Yo this exercise was fucking cool! I would have never thought something like this would indeed help with my synchronization haha thanks Uncle Ben! 🙏🏻🤘🏻
One of the few lessons that is completely danceable. I couldn't sit still.💃👯🕺
This might be best hand synch exercise on the internet! I`ve done this now nearly every day. first round at 1x then second on 1.5x speed. The later used to make my hands burn on the end, but doing this i developed a much lighter picking style and today was a first time I got them both done with no muscle "pain"
Holy FAWK, my left hand is killin' me now!
Such a cool idea! Tragically Ive now exposed that I'm just horrendous at pull offs... I lose so much volume and yours sounds so even!
Nothing shows me how in or out of shape my hands are like this kind of exercise.
You are not the only one bud... Struggled more with the legato on the way up but yeah, much practice needed :-S
I figured it out! My third finger was lagging behind the rest of my hand. I'd pull off the pinky and the third finger would dampen the sound and then press down the rest of the way and I'd lose 85% of my volume. I've been doing this exercise every day since this video and my pull offs have improved dramatically. Turns out this problem effects my picking too! I got a nice speed and cleanliness boost in my picking!
@@TheTeaDubz yup, thats the problem I'm having as well. But hey, that's what these exercises are for, to improve :-)
Playing a third above you feels like we are making music together!!
I dig it. The high priest of Shred, Father Cooley espouses the necessity of getting accurate AND fast on one string before trying to blaze across the strings. Makes total sense. Good stuff as usual. 🤘
Here's a possible idea for a future installment...this exercise, along with the 16' & 6's WW from a few weeks ago, has taught me that one of my (many) weaknesses is alternate picking at speed on the unwound strings (G, B, & e) I just can't seem to do it as quickly and cleanly as I can on the E, A, & D strings.
Based my my interwebz research, I know I am not alone in this.
Possibly a workout to help with speed and articulation on those particular strings and tackle WHY they are harder to pick faster?
Thanks
I is getting much more better
Now
Our Uncle, who art on UA-cam. Benjamin be thy name.
Man I love this so much. I've been really naughty about not actually learning to count well and be conscious of the subdivisions in my playing which has lead to really sloppy rhythms. I've been making a conscious effort to get better at that and i know this isn't what the exercise is focusing on, but using a repeating 3 note pattern that oscillates between being picked and played legato over sixteenth notes kinda forces you to keep track of both the three note pattern and the 4 notes per beat which is like a brain twister for me. I'm 100% going to subscribe to your patreon to get access to those backing tracks and guitar pro files. Thanks so much for this content uncle ben! Also just FYI you said you were going to run an ad but no ad played. Not sure how that works from your end but if you can schedule the ad I think you forgot to!
Love that Ballbreaker in the background, just above your head. Another great lesson! It sounds like you're playing a hidden level in Contra or something. 😅
Thanks, Uncy Bang!
This is great, i really love the sound , gonna love practice this one.
Beautiful guitar, beautiful exercise, beautiful human❤
❤

Dude well done you sound awesome, i've noticed i have some small "up-bend" in my downward legato, because you have nailed it. Thanks for this exercise its great!
and a speed up oof, never finished learning lol
Thanks, Uncle Ben
Bruh. The your mom joke. I love you lol
Uncle Ben is the most better teacher for the gooeytar. :)
Nice little ditty to get swol! Double picking exercises next please.
Brilliant as always! I’m gonna have to practice this cause my hands definitely need to sync up better.
Thanks dude.
I really like this play along format! Can't wait for the next one!
More better = Betterer
@BEN ELLER, I just picked up that RG 3120 Prestige i told you about the other day. God the necks on these are insanely great! Love the stock Tone zone/PAF pro
too!
Ooooh do you love it?! The king of RG’s!!!
@@BenEller Yeah i do not understand why Ibanez discontinued these? I have a total of 4 RG's now and this 3120 is better than my 550, 570fm and Rg 770. The neck is perfect. plays itself!😁
@@These_go_to_eleven_1959best RG ever!
Ben this is why I suck at guitar. Wait, not me, the dudes I play with....they suck at everything. I tell the drummer to watch you on the TUBE but he won`t. Now I forgot what I was getting to. Step-dad brains.
I read that as "Handy Sing-Along Workout"...
Probably because I flunked out of home school
Hahaha everybody sing along! You know the words!
Hellyeah thank you Uncle Ben
Cheers!!
Prost!
At some point I started counting along to this and I realized how hard it was for me to count to a repeating pattern of 3 ascending notes notated rhythmically as groups of 4. My natural inclination is to want to move on to the next main beat every time the initial note in the pattern repeats, so it's like I'm trying to go "one e an a two e an a" but my brain wants to go "one e an two e an." Don't think that's necessarily a "you" problem, just a quirk.
Absolutely 😊
Well done! 🔥
Love these short shred practices. As a new albeit not young Shredi apprentice, very valuable and very much highlighting exactly where my most glaring weaknesses are.
Thanks Ben.
Really good exercise tkx Uncle Ben !
Top as always Uncle!
Yep, like usual - it seems cool and possible - until you try it! 😁🤘👍🎸🔥
What a beautiful hair, unclen Ben!
Hey Ben thanks for the great exercice! I found your channel has the best advice/exercices for improving. I really enjoy the play along section of this video, especially as a daily routine!
best guitars and the best lessons on yt
Hey Uncle Ben, what is that purple beast you have in your hands?
🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎸
BTW another great segment, thanks man!
Thank you! That’s my EBMM Luke III in Firemist Purple! Love this thing.
Супер, это было круто!
I am so lucky that I have my own business, so I have a Kemper and some tube amps in my office with a guitar on a stand next to my desk. . 60-70% of the day when I am behind my pc I have the guitar in my hands and am playing while I read emails etc.
I know you already done a video on this, but I might be figured out something. The way Eddie plays one, with the swinged alternate picking. He admitted that he didn't know two shits about guitar and how to do it. He learned from fuckng around and finding out. Even though that years of playing with Alex, he developed a swing. But wha if he didn't swing at all? He mightve just strummed with the pick tip in deeper between the strings, instead of using the very tip of the pick, he could've picked 1/3 of the pick tip into the strings.
🤘🏻
sounds like NES music
Lol you thought we wouldn’t notice the meow game?!
Ouch & Dang it Uncle Benny Bob. My hands feel pretty normal while attempting this exercise.
I just realized the pain you refer to in the lesson. Must be the pain between my ears, I have while trying to do the half & half one.
That alternating pick & legato one? Yeah Daddy; that one vexes me lol.
Thanks Boss, For another cool one as always.
Jimmie Rex Wiseman says he can outsync Ben. Look him up.
Will there be a Super Step Dad??
What's the guitar workout equivalent of leg day?
UPDATE: This workout is legit. I'm noticing improvements already!
Tapping exercise, please.
Moo
Do you ever get elbow tendonitis from playing?
Never! I’ve always focused on playing with minimal effort.
👍👍👍👍
"Just the way your mother likes it..."
UA-cam speed 1.50 easy peasy, 1.75 a bit sloppy on the legato and only one round
Nice!!! The practice tracks on Patreon go higher, snag em!!!
My fretting hand just cant keep up with my picking hand...months and months of practice🙄😵💫😭 dont know what to do😢😢😢
How often are you practicing day?? And you say after months of practicing?? Are you playing every day?? Have you only been playing a few months in total??? Like from scratch??
@@SchecterIsKING been playing forever...pretty good player but was never fast. Want to play like yngwie. Hard to noodle around to get fast!!! How do u practice???
@@minisurfbanana I've only been playing since November but I'm getting the hang of it. I just watch Ben's videos and there's a practice routine from BERNTH that I've incorporated into my daily routine. I started trying to learn the Hail to the King solo the other day and I'd day I've got like 60% of that down so far. It's crazy hard. I know Synyster Gates and Avenged Sevenfold get a lot of hate in general but they're awesome and got a lot of sick solos.
Did you say meow?
A nice variation would be to use the hammer-on legato when moving down ( like holdsworth or Brett garsed does) . It’s a greatly great technique to use once you’ve mastered it.
I'm sorry, did you say meow?
Uncle Ben, I have enjoyed your channel over the years until I discovered you are a bass player.
Guy code error 1245
Though shalt not learn guitar from a bassist!
Do you identify as a bassist, a guitarist or both?
Are your pronouns slap/thump, djent/chug or thump/chug?
Thrash metal picking workouts
love that idea!
Nobody will ever remember a shredder
Sorry
Yeah man Eddie Van WHO?????
Please explain why you felt that it was necessary to write that. Ohh wait. So you can't shred? 😅😅😅😅
….but, this workout is great for loads of styles! There’ll be fast country players, for example, who do exactly this kind of thing. Perhaps with less distortion and in a major key, but it’s all beneficial. Or more betterer.
Who let the drummer in the room...
@@jerk_store 💀💀Sounds like OP can't shred. And if he does shred, he shreds like a step dad that dropped out of home school.
