Hi Dave. The meat is red, and delicious too. I wasn't planning on making a video on the lake, but it was so pretty there. We spent another beautiful morning there today, and got another nice mess of fish for the smoker. They will spawn and die soon, so we want to preserve a nice supply for winter. The game dept. plants 20,000 fry per year at this lake. The loons eat a lot of fry, and the big ones are for the fishermen. I hope you are doing well. Have a great week!

Some fine looking fish there. You make harvesting those filets look mighty easy. Id say that was a real fun and successful day out on that mountain lake. Looking forward to Part 2 !!

Had some for lunch today, Pinepuppy. So tasty. I haven't filleted a trout in a while, but luckily I got my touch back pretty fast. Learning to do it was kind of ugly, as I had no skill. See you soon at the redneck smoker!

Another great video! It is especially interesting as a lot of this is "foreign" to me - I had to go and look up what a kokanee is! They are great quality fish and an ideal size for what you are doing as well. I look forward to the next instalment.

Thanks for watching, my friend. Kokanee aren't the best fighting fish, but they sure do taste good. The first batch of the year turned out great, and I'm looking forward to catching more!

What a pretty mountain lake you guys were fishing and putting a bunch of Kokaneee on ice. Some really beauties ! Now that is an interesting way to scale a fish using a scrubbie…..never seen that before wonder if it will work on yellow perch. I usually skin the fillets but I know leaving the skin on just adds to the flavor. Man those are some nice red fillets ! Very cool that your Grandpa’s old Evinrude trolling motor is still running and you’re still using it all these years later. Looking forward to seeing how you smoke those fillets. Good stuff Kevin !

Thanks for stopping by, Don. We had a little smoked kokanee for lunch yesterday, and it was pretty tasty. I skin yellow perch, as well, but I think the scrubbies would de-scale them just fine. Worth a try, if you're careful with those spines! I love that old Evinrude and memories of my grandpa. Thinking it might be nice to have an electric trolling motor someday, though. We enjoy hearing the loons and other nature sounds, not to mention breathing the mountain air. If I ever found a good deal on a little easy-to-launch jon boat, I'd put the Evinrude on that. Main thing is to get out fishing more often and make it part of our lifestyle. Have a great week, Don. Enjoy your time on the water!

Ahhh…brings back memories. My dad loved to troll. Me, not so much. I’d rather wander the shore. We also did lots of fall Kokanee snagging. He then smoked them or canned them. Very yummy. I never thought of the scrubby idea for descaling. We usually just filleted them and took the skin off. Anyway, looks like you had a great outing.

Howdy Bob! Yes, I love fishing the shore as well. Love creek fishing with fly gear. Some of our favorite trips have been in the sub-alpine lakes, where they stock cutthroats and rainbows. Some of the best tasting fish from the clear water. I've had the scales rub off onto the meat when we put them in vacuum seal bags, which was unsightly. The scrubby works great, though. I hope you are doing good, my friend. Tried to leave you comments on your new beautiful videos, but they got turned off for some reason. I hope everything is o.k. Take care my friend!

Most excellent every which way. I've never fished for Kokanee. Do they taste as good as their salt water brethren? Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to part 2

Howdy KC Mo! Yes, they taste just like Copper River Sockeye, but way smaller. Luckily we can keep 10 apiece. My Doc says I should eat more salmon and fish, so I took that as a green light to fish whenever I want. If you want to try kokanee fishing, hit me up for tips. Trolling is the best way, and 1.2 mph is the magic speed. Thanks for watching my friend. I hope you are doing great!

Hey Kev! Congrats to your wife on catching the biggest fish that’s normally how it works here too. lol Really cool that you’re still using your Grandfather’s old Evinrude. I’m still swinging my grandfathers axe and I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have and use it. Hey is that an old Uncle Henry filet knife you’re using? Thanks for sharing brother and enjoyed the fishing trip!

Yup, she always catches the big ones, Shane. I love my grandpa's old Evi. I wish he was here today, and we could fish. Keep ahold of that heirloom axe. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Yeah, that Uncle Henry fillet knife really works great for kokanee. Nice little piece, and holds an edge pretty good. Hope you are doing great, and having an awesome summer!
