    Please check out the Top Down Method video. Thank you to all of the comments telling me to try the Top Down Method. I have to say that is the BEST way to start ANY fire, and I will probably use this method for the rest of my life (unless I get put on to something better).

    Thanks for this! Lived in apartments and stuff all my life as an adult . Had fireplaces but never used them. This morning after Christmas my wife woke me up and "asked" me to get a fire going in the fireplace of our new home. I was scared as hell lol. Your video worked perfect. I even went to the store and got the fire extinguisher and kiln fired wood. End of the story, your instruction lead to a perfect fire in minutes and I look like a badass woodsman to my family lol. Thanks again.

      Kirby this is one great comment to read. I know I'm late as hell, but great job! I bet it made you look like the fire starting champion didn't it lol? Trust me I was in your boat with living in apartments and condos. In fact i live in my house for like 2 years before I decided to man up and start that first fire. When I recorded this video, it was only my 3rd time starting a fire. Now I can't live without the fireplace. I use it ALLLLLL of the time, and I'm sure you will too. Thank you for viewing!

And I need to be brave; confident in all I do. Thank God I have been living in our own home for three months already and God has provided… now it’s time to use that fireplace. I'm from Texas (not gonna say which part), but power is currently out. For about 2-3 days now, i've been getting some wood from a forest nearby, and i've been using some of the snow to get some water, because the houses water froze over during the time the snow came. Ever since then, the power has been off and on, and I haven't taken a shower for a bit.

    This video was the first that came up when I searched 'how to start a fireplace,' and during the 2021 central Texas winter ice storm "Icepocalypse 2021" we just got out of, this might have saved our lives! I had never used my fireplace before and this video gave me exactly what I needed. You've earned a new subscriber, and my eternal gratitude for making this video. Thank you so much, when my heat pump iced over, when it got down to 5 degrees Fahrenheit, when they turned off our power, we were good.

      It's Dec 21 2022 and we just moved to a condo with a fireplace. We had lost our home in hurricane Ida and decided to downsize. This is the first time I've ever had fireplace and we just heard that most of the USA will be facing the freezing temps you had last year. I wanted to have a pro check the flue & clean the chimney before our first fire but as you can imagine everyone has a waiting list. I have 2 extinguishers and will try to find firewood tomorrow. This is the first video that made this something I think I can handle as a 75 year old! We are praying we don't lose power. We are used to power outages after hurricanes. BBQ grill to cook on and battery fans and sit in the car with AC on to charge our phones. Any advice for dealing with power outages in cold weather would be greatly appreciated. This IS my first rodeo lol

I'm on year 2 living in a home with a fireplace but last year, we only had a few cold days and I traveled during that week. Next week is supposed to go under 30F here, so I want to make my 1st attempt. I have a fire extinguisher and some good firefighter training ( because I'm a flight attendant). So I'm not scared, but I don't want my home full of smoke. lol. thank you! great video.

But now I’m in the same boat as everyone else with no power and had to scrounge up some firewood. And then on over to UA-cam to make sure I didn’t fak anything up. Thank you sir. Thanks man... I’m a 44 year old city boy who’s never started a fireplace in my life.
    Serious. I was staying at my girls place in out in the woods and was freezing. I always turn the heat on when I’m here but tonight I was like., “I’m lighting this bad boy up.” Your video was the first to pop up and it worked like a charm. That’s grates a huge factor too man. I wanted to follow the instructions properly so I mocked one up inside the fireplace with some steel grate and some steel angle until I can make another one or just get one. But it makes sense now why she always had trouble getting her fire started. With the grate it was going in just a minute ... full flame .. wish I could post pics on here man. Thanks again.

    How long does a fire like that last? Rolling blackouts over here in Texas got me thinking about cleaning my chimney this year and start using it lol.

    • @TheAmateursAmateur
      @TheAmateursAmateur  3 роки тому +12

      The fire will last all night as long as you keep feeding it fuel (wood). It'll only die out once you stop adding wood to it. Go purchase you a lot of wood from the store, then once you recover from this storm, purchase you a cord of wood from a local tree service who is sell firewood. It'll be cheaper in the long run. Stay safe and warm out there in Texas. I hope you get your power back asap. Thank you for viewing!

      @@TheAmateursAmateur I greatly appreciate your video! My fiance and are watching your video and had a couple of questions: when you say just keep adding wood, do you mean the small splinters of wood or the cut up "logs"?

    • @TheAmateursAmateur
      @TheAmateursAmateur  3 роки тому +3

      @Bryant G, When I say keep adding fuel, I am suggesting to add more of the big logs. The smaller pieces are to help light the larger logs when you are FIRST initially lighting your fire. You will not need the smaller pieces anymore once you get the fire going. Your fire will keep burning as long as you keep feeding it (with the larger logs). As far as fanning the fire, yes, but I don't use a fan or any fancy gadgets. I just blow blow blow under the fire. I hope this helps you out Bruh. Good luck out there in Texas. You guys got that good ole Connecticut whether right now. The storm that took you guys out just reach us. Thank you for viewing!

    This randomly popped up for me. Good video. I use newspaper to light my charcoal sometimes.
    I spray my newspaper with cheap veggie spray. It extends the burn time of the paper and lights more charcoal. Try balling your paper up and hitting it with some veggie oil.
    It’s probably not necessary but it could save time with not shredding the paper
