Xmas 1983. Just finished British Army basic training and had 3 weeks off in my hometown - Cardiff. This will always be the soundtrack for that time. Can't believe it was 23 years ago!!!!
@boar691 This was released in 1983 (the original version was released in 1969). I'm 32 years old now, but i feel like an old man sometimes. Especially when i listen to songs like this. I wonder how i will feel in another 27 years. If i'll ever make it to that point. I've got many rivers to cross, before i do... But we should be happy that we have these memories. Many people died in the past 27 years. And many of those people were younger than us... So we should be happy to still be here.
This version is so moving, and the addition of the beautiful black female voices really, really get me. The seamless ebb and flow of the piece will crumble the foundation of any stone-hearted man. Good job, UB40; this song stands the test of time!
UB40 makesuch timeless music. Ali has one of the most underrated voices ever. Such soul and authenticity. No other white guy has such a brilliant reggae voice.
i wasnt born when this song came out (i was born in '88) but i grew up listening to UB40! I would love to meet the one day. This is my favourite song i sing it everywhere-in the shower, kitchen, on my way to uni, on my way to church....ITS A CLASSIC!
my dad loves ub40 and had never seen em so me being the best son ever got tickets last october and they finished with this and the bugger cried will always remember that thank you UB40
I love this song so much. It's like God has you cross many rivers. During our journey, we face storms but we finally meet the shore. This song definately conveys that. It bring me up when I am feeling blue
We of an age, all know its Jimmy Cliff however the younger people pick it up along the way, however the message is passed along, the meaning of the story is the same.
She was 15 I was 14...she stole my heart...I stole her Labour of Love Album...she never forgave me...I forgot her name...it's been a labour of love ever since crossing those oh so many rivers in life - thank you UB40...thank you little forgotten homely girl.
UB40 I hope u read this. Y'all rock. No that's wrong y'all are 5 levels above rocking. Songs of yours have helped me live my crazy life. I love u and thank you so much
Love this song ever since!!!!!...It has a deeper meaning that we ever thought!!!...UB40's a music genius...feelin' Irie now!...thanks for posting UBVIDEOS!...
Jesus this song takes me back to my teens...happy days, could stay up all night listening to UB40,this was one of my favourites,y has kingston town got 5 million & this only 387 thousand...strange!!love it!!!
Ye UB40 have done some great tunes over the years, But this is One that has to go down as one of the best of all time, This CLASSIC ,( too me only made by UB40) Has never left me. WHAT A UNFORGETTABLE TUNE. Tell me im not alone, its sush a drag to be on your own...
I saw UB40 in Coventry on the tour promoting UB44. Stayed behind and got their autographs, and asked when they would be coming down to Bristol (where I lived then). They came down when Labour Of Love was released - and all the tickets went in just over an hour! I was so gutted that I went to an arcade and blasted Martians for an hour lol. What an amazing band!
have found thisone today....been playing it all day... .many years ago nearly lost my life in kayaking accident ...every word is gold. ....hang on to every moment people, they count
never paid much attention to ub40 , then seen them supporting santana in crystal palace and thought they were brill live, liked em since food for thought, this and king r the top bananas me thinks
I really wish Americans were more exposed to UB40 and roots/lovers rock reggae music in general. Maybe then they would come here more often. They are awesome live!!
I GREW UP WITH UB40 BEST REGGAE BAND EVER PLEASE ALI GO BACK TO THEM THEY NEED YOU WE NEED YOU TO CARRY ON WITH SUCH GREAT MUSIC M8 FOR ALL YOUR FANS GO BACK
i wasnt born till 1988, thanks 2 my mam and dad every sunday since i can remember was music night, i know every word 2 every ub40 song.thanks mam,dad.....thanks ub40!!!
Luv this song . Reminds me of when I first left home to make my way in the world and was finding it all very hard to deal with . Funny how you make songs fit where you need them for yourself .
beautiful song...it's time to take out all my UB40 vinyl and listen to all this awesome music, I get a bit nostalgic for them when summer comes around.
At least someone came to an agreement about this beautiful song / video. This song is reggae, yes, which makes it all the more beautiful. That's not the point. This is a song that expresses hardships and turning to God for help, and believe it or not, this song could be applied to any religion that involves worship and belief in something bigger than you and me. You people can try all you want, but arguing over this song will do no good.
this song is amazing,, and one of my favourites to listen to, cause it was my mums funeral song, and i also like red red wine. my friend thinks im weird for listening to ub40 at the age of 15, but there Brilliant and the best ever !!!
I love all ub40 song's ,but this song is one of my fav songs of all time, the jimmy cliff version is ace too. come back ali ub40 is not ub40 without you.
It makes me feel old when I listen to things like UB40 and Foreigner while I work out e.e Also, Wtf am I the only one that sees Santa singing with the choir??
Well, this is the version my Mum used to play all the time when it came out so it's the first version I'd heard of and I think it compares pretty favourably with Jimmy's original. It's my favourite version anyway. If people hate it that's their opinion but I think they're being a bit harsh - it's not like The Prince of Darkness Bierber's covered it. Save your wrath for when that happens.

the best cover ub40 ever done
luv this version. Gr8 cover by UB40. Appreciate it more the older i get
Two completely different sounds. Appreciate both because they sound amazing!
The soul in this music lives in your heart. I don't care who sung it first!
