He's even funnier as a straight man! Oh my gosh if there were anyone I could meet it would be Scott Thompson. Just to have cocktails with him in a public place & share observations with him would be a dream come true.
I realize decades later that this skit was also an impersonation of some gay actors in Hollywood. Also the line about "a woman not wanting to be with a f*g unless she's already married to one". Was meant to be a tell-all that many gay men were married two women.
This is something I like about Scott's sketches. Yes, they are occasionally uncomfortable but they contain an element of truth to most if not all of them. They generally are done with good humor and a sense of self-mockery and not this PC-nonsense that's ruined comedy over the last quarter-century. The best surreal KITH sketches generally have either Scott or Bruce in them. No knocks against the other guys, btw. Simon and Hecubus are my favorite recurring KITH characters, I like Buddy Cole, Chicken Lady, and the Keeper of Empty Promises. My favorite KITH sketch? Probably "The Trappers." VERY, VERY surreal...
Whoa, foretelling. He got cancer and of course rumors spread that he had AIDS but then he got better and continues to kick ass on stage and everywhere doing stand up and the like.
Aside from all these politically charged responses. His corpse says "No... Cancer." And nobody blinks. That's the genius. A corpse has a response, yet the world in which it lies hears nothing. That's what makes me giggle about this after all the obvious jokes about a covered masquerade.
I'm assuming that's not supposed to beTony Baldwin the actor, but his Surf Cops character being "killed off" the show, because he was in that same uniform with his fingers in the "hang ten" position.
The ending doesn't make a lot of sense to me. AIDS was still a fairly young virus in 1990, but even then it was widely known that heterosexuals could get it and die from it.
Scott went into detail about aids in an interview I watched a while ago ("your mom's house" I think it was called). He mentioned that for all the sex and crazy stuff that would happen in the Gay community and the like, he actually didn't have that many lovers during the show's heyday because of how afraid he was of aids. He mentioned that in a period of something like three years tons of people he knew just disappeared because of the aids epidemic.
