- de Havilland Sea Vixen RC turbine jet | Kerry Sterner design | Built by Dave Batchelor
Dave Bachelor gives me some insight into the effort involved in creating this beautiful scale replica of the Sea Vixen which was constructed from a Kerry Sterner design. After a bit of a chat Dave Wilshere of Motors & Rotors gave a great flying demonstration of this awesome machine.
Filmed by Dom Mitchell at the first Jet Modellers Association meeting of the year at BMFA Buckminster for the Essential RC UA-cam channel using the Panasonic AG-UX180 Pro 4K camcorder

Well done. Sea Vixen is one of the top 10 beautiful jets of all time
Now that's the difference between true skill and a Big Boy's Toy! True aeromodelling in every sense. Well Done both Kerry and Dave. Great piloting. Dom. Not to shabby on the camera work too!!
Thanks 👍
She is a beauty.. Ive always loved the twin booms...Sea Vixen..Vampire and Venom.
Gorgeous replica of the Sea Vixen, what a great way to allow people a chance to see how the Full size Sea Vixen would have looked in the air 😎 😍😍👏
Wow!!!!....that is some machine...beautifull to watch...and flown like a pro. 🤗👍👍
Very beautiful
I too have built a Sea Vixen by scratch in foam. Mine is powered by twin 70mm edf's and is a Mk 1.
Loved the Derry turn!
What a rare bird...simply awesome. Masterfully built...and then flown.
Couldn't agree more!
-Despite working at RR for over 30 years (or perhaps because of it) I'm not a fan of gas turbine powered aircraft -1930s style is more my bag - but this is absolutely stunning in both its build (2 years!) and the way and how it flies. What an achievement! There are times when I wonder why I bother in the face of so much talent. Envious? Moi? :)
Beautiful aeroplane and beautifully flown. Thanks - the filming was pretty good, too.
Appreciate the feedback! Cheers - Dom (Essential RC)
Stunning model, beautifully built, beautifully flown and beautifully filmed. Outstanding. 😲
Thank you so much 😀
Now that one’s on a whole other level. What an outstanding build, and I’m sure it was a challenging one. Brilliant flight as well!
Really enjoyed this one Dom! Incredible skill, dedication and patience exhibited by the builder!! What an amazing, usual and elegant aircraft!! Last and certainly not least, an excellent flight by the display pilot!
Scratch builders are out there, but as you say, they are a rare breed.
Wow a 2 year build, but mind you a great looking scale version. Dose remind me of the de Havilland Venom. Heart was in my mouth for the landing. Great stuff Dom. 👍🏻
Stunning video, great interview, lovely model and flight. A genuine pleasure to watch in all respects, thank you.
Very kind. Not a natural interviewer I feel but try my best.
Brilliant stuff!
Beautiful Dom, awesome piloting and gee that thing moved! ☺️👍
Oh yeah! Can't beat turbine power Will.
Brilliant build 👍👍👍…and seems to be a good flying plane, too! Congratulations from Munich 🍺
Superb
Thanks Ken. 100% agree. A joy to film this type of project. 🤗
