My 66 Partner recently had a gentle rear corner bash from a van splitting the bumper and pushing the rear corner in about 10mm. Insurance wrote off based upon my description pending inspection - I couldn't believe it but the truck arrived to take off to Copart. After a month of hassles - including asking them for the replacement cost (this was a top spec 120PS Allure) which was £13k+. I provided evidence - and after a month of hire car costs, a month of storage - they agreed to pay out £13k - then let my buy it back from £3.75k. It would have been perfect for you guys to do a very straightforward pull out, replacement light cluster and plastic repair then paint. £850 later at my local bodyshop and we are back to where we were with a Cat S write off that I know all about......It is difficult to believe this is all it takes to write one off - but it gives plenty of opportunities for you guys.
It's upsetting and frustrating because it seems so pointless writing off a decent car.
We're definitely living in crazy times with absurd double standards.
No wonder insurance is so high when they write off £13k vehicle for what seems relatively low repair costs. Crazy 😜

Chris is a legend there’s nothing he can’t do
I have been disabled my whole life and it mad prices anything for the disabled goes for. I am going to get a van, with a ramp for my big mobility scooter, that is my dream at the moment. Love what you both do I have been watching for a long time. I always used to work on my own cars. I started with, wait for it with a relient regal van MK111 700 CC. I had to work on it each weekend just to make sure, I got to work on Monday.

Regarding salvage cars : In my opinion, salvage yards, insurers and hire car companies make a lot of money from the write-off process. Salvage values are generally high at the moment - not helped by suspected ramping of the prices by some yards. Insurers will only replace parts - not repair which is why so many cars are written-off. Recently, I went to a Suzuki dealership to collect a part and as I passed their bodyshop, I spied a pile of discarded bumpers, one of which was a perfectly good match for my 2016 Celerio. One worker let me have it for £20 and once I got it home, all I could find was one broken clip from the lower grille which I swapped with one from my damaged bumper !

Chris made a great job of that paint and the repair looks good don't know why he doesn't take on more painting love to watch this content and would like to see more keep 'em coming.

Great job Chris, the paint looks perfect on film so must be even better in true life. Those little vans are a good little earner for the shop. One of my neighbours daughter is a florist and she uses one for her delivery’s and day to day use she loves it and says it costs her next to nothing to run. Another great project, that is all to the good for the pair of you, and the business. I know Chris does not want to be a full-time painter, but his ability to turn out work like the van/car shows his ability to deliver on a project like this. Looking at things from a different angle, it does allow his hand to be kept in trim. The result speaks for its self, a great pricing for the business, you are not a charity, you work hard and put your talent on the line every time. Perfect for anyone with a large dog or dogs, loads of room and fixing points for cages, very nice inside for the humans and very economical .... hence the paw sticker on the tailgate. Nice bit of painting by Chris too. 👍

Love the way you say we "don't do" painting but produce a 100% job, I "don't do" welding repairs at home and yet only manage to make large holes in both pieces of metal🤣. Seriously though another great project, improvement on the selling price but feel you could have gone a bit higher, but at the end of the day it's what you feel comfortable with. What a result and I guessed you would ask £4500 for it! Normally your ask price comes under my guesses and I’m left thinking you should take a little more. A great van for someone and a nice quality repair. These are also popular with retired guys wanting to do a bit of gardening or decorating but don’t want to tax/insure a van! Great little things.

At my work, last year we bought a few Wheelchair Access VW Caddy Maxis to test the market out, and most of them we have sold, have been bought to turn into Micro Campers. We never expected them to sell so well for that purpose.

Very nice little car/van. Chris you did a good match on the paint, silver not the easiest to match up. I never used to mind doing the odd wing but never liked doing a whole car. We did one at home once (solid colour) but it was hassle. Anyway I think someone will love that motor. Might even sell to a 🐕 dog owner, there's plenty of room for a hound/hounds to laze about in. Nice little van that guys and as you say, a nice quick turnaround. Reminds me i need to get down the breakers and find a drivers quarter window for my Berlingo after some pond scum decided to stick it through and have it away with my toolbox and stuff out of the back 🤬 Judging by the prices for secondhand ones on ebay i'm guessing its a common spot to get into them...
