  • Not without some glitches, the Grundig is finally done. I cut a lot of cussing out of the video! The owner picked it up and I think she'll get years of great use out of this nice machine.

All these stereograms remind me of when I was a kid in the 60s at family parties playing records.

Sounds good, Michael. Boy, I remember when those big consoles were all the rage, but then I remember the late 80's to late 90's when you couldn't even give them away. I guess things have come full circle now. Mom got one from Sears on her 21st Birthday. I remember them delivering it. I was born when Mom was 17 so I would have been about 4 years old, lol. January of 1972. We kept it until I think about 1981 and then gave it to our next door neighbor. I bought a used one for $15 in 1997 when I lived back in Tennessee. I had a Jewish roommate once when I lived in Louisville. I called him semi-orthodox because he had two refrigerators, one for meat, one for dairy but he cheated, LOL, he occasionally had bacon in one of them! I see people getting upset because they'll have boxes in stores with 2 different languages on them or people yelling at immigrants to learn English, but it's like that German speaking neighborhood you lived in to me. Louisville once had a very large German population and at one time had 3 German language newspapers in the city, so I figure it's nothing new now, lol. Louisville is a big city now, made up of a bunch of small towns that grew into each other. Butchertown, Rubbertown, Germantown, Irish Hill, Highlands, Buechel, Shively, Okalona, Fairdale, Portland....and if you're in any one of those areas they still identify as being that neighborhood even though it's all Louisville now officially. I got a giggle out of your wife naming that car Herschel...my step father did the same thing to a car of his. Same name! Except I think his was a '65 Fairlane, lol. Take care, Gary

My first car was a '62 Fairlane 500 4-door with the 221 cubic inch V8. I loved that car. It was bright red. Most of my Jewish friends cheat on the Kosher rules. Then again, most of my Catholic friends eat meat on Friday night, during Lent! Cheers! Michael

I've never heard of anyone's favorite Beatle being named "Herschel".
Usually John, Paul, George or on occasion you get your Ringo fans...
In all seriousness, though, I had no idea that "Herschel" was a traditionally Jewish name. Interesting.
