- A fire on the spire of the Gothic cathedral in Rouen, France, has temporarily revived memories of the devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. However, Culture Minister Rachida Dati gave the all-clear Thursday evening after firefighters extinguished the blaze: No major damage had been found in the church, and the "interior and especially the works of art there" had been protected.
The fire at the top of the 19th-century crossing tower had caused large clouds of smoke. The cause of the fire is still unknown, wrote Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol in the online service X. The tower is currently being renovated and had been scaffolded and covered with a white plastic tarp for this purpose.
Rouen Cathedral is one of the masterpieces of Gothic art and was often painted by Claude Monet. The 151-meter spire is made of cast iron. It replaces a wooden predecessor that was struck by lightning in 1822. Until the completion of Cologne Cathedral in 1880, Rouen Cathedral was the tallest building in the world. Renovations began in 2017. Firewalls are also being installed in the roof truss.

Fire in a French cathedral? This sounds familiar.

AllahuAkbar 😊❤
Now everyone in comment section will cry about some building fires, doesn’t matter how old they are, what about children dying in Ukraine and Palestine?
Yeah old wooden buildings burn, go figure.
Most people first think of Notre Dame's fire. Copenhagen stock exchange's historical spire was also burnt down during restoration earlier this year.
😢
What are the chances that a worker was smoking up there and left a cigarette butt there?
Europeans do smoke a lot.
dix-huit
It keeps happening...
So many 'restoration' projects have fires! Am I naive to think that the very first task should be to install fire suppression equipment before work begins?
Install where? You can’t modify the structure and there would be no way to test the system without damaging the structure.
STEVE. according to your comment I Guess that you have Never entered a gothic Cathedral from MIDDLE AGE (that one, from years 1100 and After ) 🧐 THEY ARE PIECES OF ART handcrafted by large teams of SKILLED construction builders, Carpenter, , stones carvers.. and they are not fitted to any ''modern improvements '' as Air Condtionnjng , Central Heatings or FIRE Security Systems. . Just Adding Electrical power inside has been a nightmare 😱... If the opportunity arises one for you to Come to FRANCE, feel free to have a look inside those magnificient churches and so whatever your religion ... @@pomperidus Copenhagen Stock Exchange's spire was also burnt down during restoration earlier this year
Why do I get the horrific feeling that certain fires are not that accidental???
@@flashflame4952 because our brains are not fit to statistical thinking and it iwas historically better for our survival to do quick but inexact pattern recognition than to correctly predict the probability of a fire starting in two cathedrals in five years in a country with 186 cathedrals and 40000 churches that are regularly renovated.
Especially churches in France. Dozens have burned that have not been reported on.
This is getting suspicious

Impressionist Claude Monet painted about a dozen paintings of this very same cathedral. He was so obsessed with it that he even rented an apartment across the street from this cathedral and worked on 3 paintings of it simultaneously, one each for early morning, noon, and dusk. Unfortunately, Monet's Impressionistic style blurred most of the fine detail of this very artistic building.
What's wrong with these restorers? New major oversights necessary!
Where have I heard that on before
In Russia... Attacks by terrorists
Is this the second cathedral that burned
Lessons learned from Notre Dame.
Seems a bit too much of a coincidence that these cathedrals are catching on fire of last few years.
It’s not in any way a coincidence, there are other religious groups, of which France has a lot, that don’t like to see spires.
Cathedrals have been catching on fire for as long as there have been cathedrals. Notre Dam has burned multiple times. Part of the problem there is that they refused to install modern fire breaks because they wanted to preserve the historical-not-up-to-modern-fire-codes architecture.
I'm not sure what happened here, but a building catching on fire is not unusual. They need to install modern safety measures like fire breaks and sprinkler systems and stop worrying about it ruining the aesthetic.
This is the second occurrence in many years, a bit short to detect statistical anomalies.
Conspiracy theories are your special interest
There are also a billions candles inside each and every church, the churches have burnt down on a monthly basis since we started building them, yet according to conspiracy theorists they only started burning down after immigrants started arriving

@@PPpaladin yes again , again,,, in YEAR. 1200 ON EASTER Evening, fire inside the church. In YEAR 1514 , Fire inside the spyre. In YEAR 1822 thunder strike over the spyre ... It was an extremely minor incident. Not worth posting on UA-cam. They only did it because there was a famous precedent. This was bound to make views. This is all there is to it.
why scaffolding keep getting on fire?
Amazing that it's only catholic churches and not mosques
I don't know if the scaffolding took fire in this case , but roofs of old Medieval cathedral are inflammable : they are made of old wooden beams. In fact fires in cathedrals were not uncommon in the Middle Age because they were not built 100% in stone, there was also a lot of wood, such as the beams supporting the roof, the furnitures ..
@@TheHamboy69Maybe because the roofs of Medieval cathedrals are made of wooden beams ,while mosques are all modern so they do not have wood in their roofs?

whats with france and fiery cathedrals 🤔🤔🤔 funny how Dokken has a song called Paris is Burning as well
Not again! This is shocking, upsetting!
Don't worry! The spire is entirely made of cast iron and definitely didn't burn. Probably some restoration or scaffolding material. Not a big deal.
So they keep repairing historical buildings with flammable scaffolding, that sounds like a massive deal.
The lead in Notre Dame cathedral was *lead* and technically didn't burn, but lead particles got airborne with the smoke plume and affected thousands of people.
Pretty soon we're going to see signs of how much lead *this* cathedral had in it.
@@joepopplewell680 big mistake yes, the damages seem to be limited, thankfully
Workers can become so accustomed to their equipment that they become careless---welding comes to mind as a cause of fires in old structures w/ dry wood construction. The companies need to take extra care, perhaps have a firefighter on duty at any time that there is welding or any other fire or heat involved equipment.
Varg what did you do???

One has to wonder at the Intelligence Quotient of the people who renovate/ restore artwork in French Cathedrals and English Royal Castles with combustibles everywhere. 50 - 60?

A few years ago, one of his paintings was sold for more than 110 000 000 US$. Which is the world record for an impressionist. Most people actually know which "Claude" it is about.

They should stop restoring cathedrals in France D:

Alibaba strikes again 😊
Always the same story, let's restore an old building that doesn't need it, and then it ends up catching fire...
To begin with, we should ban all electrical tools on these sites!
First?
The French workers were on their official government approved wine break, which lasts for 61 minutes and resets at the top of every hour.
Condolences to the fire.
It is apocalyptic sign for Macron's government.?.
These restorations are a flaming nuisance
Is this a new form of silent terrorism?
Maybe if they cut back on smoking cigarettes they wouldn't be barbecuing all their historic structures.

Like a thick cloak, evil has spread all over the world. Mankind's future hangs in the balance. These fires and destructions of sacred sites are no coincidence or accident. Choose God and reject all evil in its many forms, such as regrets, suspicion, and isolation from your fellow human beings. What you do now, what you choose now, is for the next stage. Choose wisely and never forget, sooner or later we will meet again on the other side.
