Strategy Tip 1 (most important) Play all four sections). YES! I agree and I think I did this every time (maybe once on a dangerous mission I might have cut back to just 2). Once on the planet, I typically split my crew into two groups of 2 crew each. That way they could ASSIST each other along the way (which ties into your strategy 2)
Yes, I’ve heard of others heading out with just two sections and having a really difficult go of it. There’s even just soo much terrain to cover on each planet. More sections can help cover it more efficiently.
1. Started out playing two sections (solo), and scrapped the run and switched to all 4, much better even though burn through supplies faster..
2. Oh yeah. Especially if you have a crew member with the ability to assist with more than one die AND returns them to your available dice pool...
3. By the end of my 3rd mission, 1 had 2 of my starters up to Rank 3. They ranked up on mission one, rested through mission 2, and mission 3 got the Rank Up card flipped and enough Success Tokens....
4. Depends on the situation. -1 energy next ship phase, I'll use the precious command token for research or production. Gonna lose morale or something big like that. Sit Room for sure.
5. Oh yeah, hit the barracks every time this play through, helps a lot to have the extra crew to "spend" on Research, critical situations, productions, and MedBay therapists.... or even to reduce the success token cost of buying new dice for the crew.
Yes, definitely all 4 crew works best regardless of player count. 👌
Strategy Tip 5 Fill out your crew, get your technology started and get it developed. YES! I think this is more important that Tip 4 (I'd switch their order). Having LOTS of crew lets you do LOTS of things in Ship Phase since crew can help with most everything involved in Ship Phase including (as you said) getting your technology going!) Try to plan ahead though. Choose the four crew that you want to go on the next mission and do NOT use them to help with anything in Ship Phase or they will end up resting and won't be available for the next mission. I tried to use every crew member if possible.
Yes, agreed!! We always figured out who was going on the planet before starting to assign crew, and we also tried to use them up. 😊 I agree this is also more important than tip 4.
Strategy Tip 2 Don't forget to use your cards and assist as often as you can. YES! That might even have been my number 1 strategy! The extra dice provided by crew assisting are essential and sometimes the cards they assist with is what saves the day! ALSO a corollary to this ... choose the cards you take with you carefully! Don't take them all. Take only 10 (no more than 10). And take the BEST 10 cards you have available for that crew member.
YES!! That’s an important addition and I can’t believe we didn’t bring that up with this point. Choosing which cards, and how much, to bring is so critical! We also usually just bring the minimum as well, to better go through the cards we want to make sure to have on hand for a mission. 😁👌
Strategy Tip 4 Deal with your situations as they arise. Yes. Not as critical as the first three strategy tips, but still important. I always tried to get rid of new situation cards before they took effect unless their effect was minimal.
Yes. The only reason why I even included this one, is hearing of folks who got into serious trouble with situations piling up, to the point where they felt they needed to restart their campaign.
Strategy Tip 3 Focus on ranking up. YES! This is most important the first half dozen missions! Get a couple crew to rank 3 then use them to train new recruits to start at rank 2 (rather than rank 1). High rank crew also help more in getting those extra dice. I think once I might have gotten two sets of added dice after one mission (or maybe I am just dreaming it).
I just love those extra dice, especially when you unlock the new ones. 😁🙌
I cannot wait to start my campaign this weekend! I'm hesitant to play 4 characters solo, but upon your advice, I'll give it a shot.
Ooh have fun!! Let us know how it goes! 😁
I'm playing the 7th citadel right now, but I'm saving your video for when I begin my ISS Adventure. Thanks in advance!
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching! 😊
awesome video. I actually can't wait to sometime play this game ;) October is my birthday month! Just sayin .....
Can't wait!
nice... now, how can I avoid failing a 2/3 chance of getting the symbol I need on a die four times in a row :)
Haha! No kidding. 😆 I love Vanguard, but I’m not a huge fan of the high luck dice chucking aspect (and that’s why Vanguard is not in my top 20 even though I enjoy it). I’m more of a euro girl.
For me, the pull to Vanguard is the story aspect. I love the mystery and exploring the worlds. The random dice luck rolls that can obliterate you… not so much!
I posted a comment yesterday going through your 5 excellent strategies (which I agree with) and thanking you for mentioning that Dice Tray SYSTEM (which is required in my mind to not get the dice mixed up) ... but the system (not you) removed my post and it still is not here. For some reason this happens here with your videos.
Thanks for taking the time to repost your comments!! 😊 I wonder if there’s a UA-cam support that you can contact and the difficulties, as that’s disconcerting.
