Im 6-2, about 260lbs & sat on this model a few days ago & it just felt right, havent test ridden yet but if i could afford the upgrade i think this will be my next horse 😊
Great review bro.. I also got finally convinced to upgrade from my ATAS 2019 DCT to ATAS 2024, but still DCT, because I simply love it. I never had problems riding the 21", but of course, being 170 cm, with the 19" and lower seat it looked like to ride a toy (compared to 21"). Obviously, when I will pick it up in two weeks I will ride it more and I can also say more later on, but the first impression was amazing (height, stability in the curves, and so on)... I was also fighting with myself if to go for tricolor or black, at the end I went for black.. simply I like more dark colors.. but the tricolor is also really amazing... said so, enjoy riding bro... maybe once we will meet on the road, who knows ✌🏻

Very solid review with your experiences lifted up for consideration. Not an adv. rider currently, but I really like that offering as updated for '24 and I also would prefer a dct version. Your recommendations are spot on... like back light controls, wireless CarPlay, two-hand windscreen to one hand or electronic adjustment. My personal preference is simpler graphics, like one color, so with that white, maybe red, or green only...that is just too busy.

I usually don't care about all the electronics they put on these new bikes. I do like cruise control and a quick shifter though. I keep my phone in my pocket when I ride. Most times I set my windshield height and never adjust it again. I agree that backlit buttons should be standard on every bike. I don't ride much after dark, but when I do I hate not being able to see some of the buttons. The more buttons the worse it is. I really like the metallic in the paint. This white is the same as on the Goldwing and I think it's just beautiful.

I really prefer manual over DCT, if you hate pressing the clutch and shifting that takes away some of the fun of riding a bike. With a bike we are piloting not just gas and stop. But for those who have a disability or lost a leg by all means get a DCT. Great video
If you want wireless Car Play, Motorola makes a good USB wireless dongle for that. I have one for my car and it works better than the factory wireless option.
At 72 years old and a devoted Africa Twin rider I was waiting for a real user review. My fully farkled ‘18 DCT version, like me, is getting long in the tooth but should I buy the ‘24 model has me asking:Does it offer “drastically” better ergonomics and weight distribution, or just a tad better that makes a difference?
I rode a manual Super Tenere no problems in traffic...Manual will save your life. I do pullups so grip strength is not an issue.

my biggest complaint is that the new tank graphics now interfere with the placement of the honda tank pads. I opted not to install them but dont buy the tank pads from honda for the 24 model
yeah I just installed them, and they really jack with the graphics.
the hand guards are not breaking very easily actually. I was thinking the same but I then dropped the bike twice and both times the handle guard unhooked from its site only. My guess is that they are designed in that way, lose and flexible, so they just unhook in case of impact and you just need to put them back in place.
Thanks for the great review! Your apprentice did a good job on the back there. Very interesting about the seat comments. I've only ridden a '23 as a test ride and didn't notice the seat as you mention. I'll pay a lot more attention on the next ride and make it longer I think. I'm looking at a 2024 to buy OR I may wait to see if the supercharger comes along on the '25 model - another 30+hp would be appreciated on the long rides with a passenger. I'm coming from a 2014 150hp Multistrada so a supercharger would be nice 🙂 Cheers from Sydney Australia.

I’m looking to get into a bike with an automatic transmission after not riding for 15 years (I’m 39 now)…looks like my options are easy since basically only Honda make a decent automatic transmission bike! Now I’m just torn between this beautiful bike or a 2018+ Goldwing….i am honestly a bit worried that the Goldwing is going to be a bit big for my liking…I’m 6 foot 230 lbs.

hand protectors normally come apart when they fall, they don't break, they just need to be re-attached.
Oh, they do break, trust me. I had one single fall from a stand still, the left hand guard was obliterated, as well as my clutch lever. The first mod I did to mine was fitting aftermarket metal handguards, Zeta XC to be more precise.
Great review! I knew you'd get back to the Twin. FYI your 2022 also had the pearl white. Honda didn't have a flat white option. I have the 22 Adventure Sports and it's pearl white.

I own a 2023 Adv Sports and use a no name wireless car play adapter from Amaz. Works perfectly fine!
Is it just like a usb dongle?

I use an usb extension cable to store it under my seat. I don’t think it’s waterproof. 😊
@@adventureundoneyeah kind of. These dongles don’t fit under the cap. So I bought a dongle with a cable. In my car I use a carlinkit 5.0, on my bike a dongle without cooling vents
the openings in the front of the tank are the air intakes for the air filter

The forks are in bronze color because it is Kashima coating. By the way, excellent review and motorcycle.
They should have stuck with the previous color
@@adventureundone Due to the wear of the inner surfaces of the outer tubes of the forks on the previous models, they increased the hardness of the surface with Kashima coating. They were probably driven by functionality and less by aesthetics.

Have you experienced major vibrations from the engine getting transferred to the foot pegs at all? I have a 23’ Triumph Tiger 1200 RE and after a couple of hours on the bike my feet hurt from the vibrations. I’m curious if the AT is smoother.

I’ve had a DCT and I loved it but if I bought another AT I would get manual with a quick shifter so I’m curious to see what you think of the quick shifter when you get it. Did your Transalp have similar engine heat? I remember the engine heat on my AT and I hated it. My T7 doesn’t have any engine heat.

if it was the front only do you feel it? do you have to adjust your self for that?
I have found Carplay to quit when ambient temps are high and the phone gets hot. Could this be the same reason for you?

@@adventureundone I put mine in a side bag mounted to the crash bars. it lasts marginally longer if i remove the phone's casing. thinking of going back to mounting on handlebars for better airflow but it adds to the clutter..
Few queries.
26 min - can we use the usb port in rain ? won't it damage/short the phone or the usb port ??
Do you get handle wobble on the 2024 AT [with or without topbox] ? lots of previous model AT riders are complaining about it.
Is it only the 2024 Adventure Sport that comes with the 19” or do other year Adventure Sports also have a 19”…I’d prefer comfort as 98% of my riding will be on pavement also.
How's the leg room compared to the old model? Any difference?

As someone who is looking at both the 2024 Tiger 900 Rally Pro and the 2024 Africa Twin AS, which one is the better bike? Looking to do touring and be able to go off road when I want to explore. Its really been a tough decision. I am leaning towards the Triumph because it seems like the no reviewers seem to be very excited by the Africa Twin.
As a previous owner of a 900 Rally pro (video coming soon on that comparison) it really depends what kind of off roading.
I own an Africa Twin DCT but I’ve ridden the new and older Tigers quite a bit. For me, they’re both great bikes but have a very different feel and character. There’s no way a video or a specification sheet can help you make the choice; at a minimum a demo ride is required. That said, I hated the DCT at first, it took me two years to really learn how to use it as designed, now it’s the feature I most admire about the Africa Twin. All that said, both Honda or the Triumph in any configuration won’t disappoint.
How is the electronic suspension?

How’s the heat on yours? I just bought the 2024 standard DCT and it’s cooking my legs when I’m riding around 25 mph. It’s like a hair dryer pointed right on my knees and legs. It’s fine at a standstill. Still blowing heat at highway speeds, but more bearable than 25-30mph. I love the bike, but I’m definitely concerned!

I had watched most of your video but apparently skipped that. Apologies. I rode my friend’s 2018 AT for hours and it was fine, and like you I also owned a Transalp…which wasn’t hot at all. I’m just not getting why this version of AT has the blowing furnace. I love the bike, but the heat is rough right now. I wonder if someone will come up with a fix, or something that helps it be more like other AT’s in the past.
@@Hookmeister Honda sells the lower wind deflectors, but if I remember correctly it’s in front of that vent. But double check me on that
Hi! New viewer to the channel, interesting review especially after recently buying myself a base 24 AT manual (with quickshifter).
All true about the relationship between suspension, bike geometry, seat slope. The base AT does not have the same "problem". On the quickshifter, having my doubts about it, feeling it very rough and unconsistent when shifting up or down within lowish rpms. 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd, very clunky. Also, when downshifting, I have set EB to the bare minimum as elseway the "dive" is wavy and sometimes abrupt.
I've traded my old T7 for the base AT Manual, I'm yet feeling mixed feelings as the AT throttle feels very jerky at low speeds (up to 30mph, very annoying, whereas T7 was very smooth all-over...) and the AT mirrors shaking like hell at higher speeds. Wondering about your thoughts on these? Also, do you feel any actual difference between the available power levels? Thank you for your review, subd to watch more content from you!
Hey there, yeah I personally like the geometry on the base trim better.
As for the quick shifter, did you adjust it in the settings? I put mine on soft and it’s nice.
As for power difference, not really. It’s defiantly much more noticeable on the DCT.
But you won’t really notice power , but more or less it holding RPMs longer.
PS: on the front dive, set the front suspension a notch firmer than the rear (that’s what I did on the electronic suspension)
And I agree it’s still a little jerky

Yes I did set the QS to the softer setting, both up and down, perhaps it's all about finding the optimal revs to shift (as with most bikes with QS...). As for the front dive I'll definitely try firming the front suspension, thanks for the hint!
On the jerkyness at low speeds, I'm finding myself cruising in 3rd most of times (perhaps more than I should...), slightly slipping the clutch when necessary. This has greatly improved the ride comfort 😊
All in all, don't get me wrong. It's a great bike, period. Just a matter of re-adapting yourself.

Ahahah excelent! Same here! 3rd is the charm. Has to do with emissions, lean air/fuel ratio from factory. Well documented issue, but no solution yet. Some say remapping ECU is a temporary fix as the bike returns itself to factory values after a while..!
Oh! Almost forgot. The mirrors do shake a lot at higher speeds, blurring sight on traffic. Perhaps because of the factory tires, 21" Karoo 3... idk. Is the ATAS having the same issue? Cheers!
You should try a BMW GS Adventure. Youlll never want to get back on that Honda. I had a 2022 ATAS and don’t miss it at all.

I had a 2023 that I've kept 2 Months, probably one of the nicest bike I've owned but also the most unpleasant bike I've ever owned, extremely heavy, top heavy as hell with DCT that shift to 6 gears at 25 Mph! uncomfortable seat, Complicated display and connection I hated that bike and got rid of it! other than being WOW (in the show room) this bike will limit you no matter what are your skills!

Why would you want a shaft drive in an adventure bike thats focused on offroad... Shaft drives are for BMW GS, Triumphs, KTMs, Ducatis and other ADV bikes that are more focused on the road, rsther than off road...
@@nogerboher5266 that’s where your mistaken my rider friend, the Africa twin adventure sports is more focused for the road that’s why it was first to be given the tubeless tires a bigger fuel tank and a smaller front tire. And that’s all perfect, and the last thing they need to do is to put a shaft drive on it. There’s another one and that’s just called the “Africa twin” and that’s more focused on off road. Trust me I have a bike which has a shaft drive and it’s the best thing, maintenance free, free from adjustment and free from oil fingers.
@@thetruthonlyone I mean, it's not me saying that... It's Honda. Honda literally stated themselves that their Africa Twin Adventure Sports version is an offroad leaning adventure bike. They literally just had to change the front wheel in the newest 2024 release of Africa Twin, from 21'' to 19'', just to make it more comfortable when riding on the road, because it was leaning too much for the offroad. One of the engineers for Honda stated that older ATAS were made with a 70/30 offroad/road ratio in mind, while the new ATAS is more balanced, leaning 60% towards offroad and 40% towards road riding, while still being very capable offroad. Aside from Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports, KTM 1290 Super Adventure R and Suzuki Vstrom 1050 are the only other 1,000cc+ ADV bikes on the entire market that are offroad focused - and both of those bikes have chains as well, because chains are better for offroad and most importantly, are WAY MORE RELIABLE, especially for long distance, all terrain riding or around the world trips, both of which are what these bikes are mostly used for.
Shaft drives tend to loosen and even break when ridden offroad for long periods of time and they DO NOT like dust particles, especially not tiny rock dust particles and in case they break you CAN NOT fix them alone, by yourself in the middle of nowhere, (and even if you could replace it, how exactly would you carry and where exactly would you put a 20-30 kilo, huge metal shaft and a full box of other components with you on a 14 day trip?) whereas with a chain, you can just put it and some tools in one of your bags and swap it out without a problem, no matter where you are.
Not only that but on shaft drive bikes, when you aggressively turn that handle and give the bike gas, both front and rear tires lift the bike up at the same time as you accelerate, which is NOT what you want while you're riding offroad, whereas with a chain, only the front of the bike starts to lift up, which is perfect for offroad and doesn't matter on a road.
There are many, many reasons why all offroad focused ADV bikes on the market have chains instead of shaft drives. Chains are just better for all terrain use and adventure riding. If you want an ADV bike that was made mostly for touring and very light offroad, then buy a BMW GSA, Yamaha Super Tenere or something of that nature.
@@nogerboher5266 I hear you my friend, I think this is the reason they split the 2 as before there was just 1, the Africa twin and thank God for social media Honda can see and hear what the bikes are being used for and they noticed a lot of people are using it for the road only and some off-road and on road so then they made the adventure sports which gave it a bigger fuel tank and more cladding. After all my friend there’s already a bike for the off-road mainly and for the road which has a chain so at least leave the adventure sports to have a shaft drive :) no? Regarding the shaft drives not being reliable and I sure aşure you from experience that they are very reliable but I only can speak for the Honda makes and yes regarding other makes ie BMW I have seen people complaining that it breaks down a lot but haven’t heard anyone complain about Honda to be honest. And I have had 2 bikes from Honda with a shaft and thank God not a problem at all. Regarding the chain it’s just too much maintenance and looking after them after a bad weather and dirty fingers, a long list. Very nice reply by the way.
