Oil everything (moving metal parts). Open all covers and bottom and oil these areas. check upper tensioner plates are not rusted. check lower bobbin tension. check timing (needle to bobbin hook) New, sharp, un-bent needle. new thread. bobbin not wound right. Just some ideas! Good luck!
Thanks for the tips! I'll work my way through them and see if I cant make her work :D
I know this is 2 years old now, so I don't know if you stilllook at your channel. Buuut, I have just bought the same machine off ebay. It's an electric model, but still the EM 24 serial number. Made on March 1st 1957. We have 2 of the 15000 that were made. That made me smile. 🙂
That's very cool! Use her well lol :)
That's very cool. Use her well lol 😆
Check for roughness in needle hole of throat plate or on bobbin case. Also check for roughness along upper thread path. Nice machine! I love the flip-down table extension.
I love the flip down table to, something none of my other machines have!
What a lovely vintage sewing machine, built to last for a long long time.
Thats what I'm hoping :D
I have the very slightly younger sibling to this!!
It was originally sold as a treadle machine to a woman in the outskirts of Manchester. Made 2 months after yours, but the sales receipt is from 1960. Sold for £40 and 11 shillings, old style. From the Bull Street Singer Store.
Wonderful machine. Mostly what these old Singers want is a good cleaning and some oil. Mine sews a beautiful straight stitch. Makes one understand why Rolls-Royce used them to sew the door trims for years and years.
Thankfully I've actually managed to repair this one now, just needed A LOT of adjustments. But your right, she sees superbly!
I purchased this 1 day ago! Beautiful condition! Thanks for your video! ❤
Oh very nice! Have fun with her!
There's an Android app, also.
EM 246284 commissioned March 1, 1957. Lovely machine!
thankyou :D
I had this same problem of the thread breaking on a Bernina 707 Minimatic. It turned out to be wear on the bobbin spindle making the bobbin loose. I cured it by gently but firmly tapping the bobbin spindle knob with a hammer to minimize the play between the spindle and the bobbin.
Oh I'll keep that in mind for the future!
Haya. Just found your channel through Retro Claude. I too collect Vintage machines, I too have a few. . . cough, haha. Yours is beautiful, hope you get the issue figured out all ok. Thanku 'sew' much for sharing. Ana.
Your welcome :) yes, I have quite a few.... Ops, what can I say? There a bit addictive lol
@@AnnabelleAndBensAntics Ha Ha, yup sure are.
Try changing the needle. It may be cutting the thread. Also check bobbin tension is balanced with upper tension. Beautiful machine.
Thanks for the tip! I actually did get her working ... Stupid me the needle was litrily the wrong way around lol!
@@AnnabelleAndBensAntics 👌😂 Hey, we've all done that! Glad you got her working. I got an electric version yesterday. Really happy with it. Happy sewing.
My two 201K's are named Evelyn and Kitty
Oh I love those names!
She is a very lovely machine. I hope you figure out what's wrong with her and get her going again.
I'm sure I will, just takes a bit of fiddling around :)
For the screatches on the table, if he watches this video he'll figure it out. 😉😊
Luckily he dosn't watch my youtube channel lol, so I think the secrets safe for now 😅
ok my 1952 machine did this, change the needle, oil the machine, clean all the thread paths. change the bobbin threads …… needle in the right way round and threaded from inside to outside……..
Yere I figured out pretty quick after posting this video the needle was just in the wrong way round... Yep I'm an idiot lol
@@AnnabelleAndBensAntics it actually shows an arrow on the needle plate…… we live and learn.
Did you ever get the 201k working ? I propose "Zolky" as a name, based off the model number.
yes she does work like a dream now but i'm saving her for a little series i'm planning where i use the machines o make outfits from the years they were cast. :D and i love that name suggestion!
Can this machine be converted to an electric version as I have a treadle version and cannot get on with it thank you
Yes it can. Mine came with a flat back plate for the motor to be attached but as back then motors were sold separate I'm guessing it was just never added
I think you can get modern electric conversion kits of eBay these days
Thank you
Mocha color
Haha it is!
Is the needle in correctly?
i cant remember how but i think i did get it working :D
@@AnnabelleAndBensAntics So glad you got it working.
I have a 1952 Singer 201k how much would it be worth please? Anyone know?
there's a lot of variables. depends what country you in, the condition of the machine and weather or no it sews. probably best to look around on your local fb marketplace for a good idea of second hand machines value
Thank you. I'm in the UK and it does work. I've found some great videos about it. What an amazing machine.
Please thread the needle from right toleft
Thankfully after some fiddling I figured out the needles was in the wrong way round which was the problem.
Name has to be Elizabeth
I already have an Elizabeth sadley :)
A dozen and one isn't 7, it's 13😂
:P
