I bought a box of Topcon cameras and lenses and this was one of them. It’s an absolutely gorgeous lens. Mine is mint. I agree. The build quality and feel is incredible, as well as image sharpness, blur, appetite ring is so smooth. I have a topcor 35mm, 50mm, 58mm macro, this one, a100mm, and a135mm. They are all incredible.
You know what is strange is I already replied so many times but UA-cam keeps deleting my own comments :/ Wanted to say I really wanted the 100mm and 135, if I get the chance someday :)
@@daynemalan I use a Fotasy Exacta-NEX adapter. Quite inexpensive, but super high quality with tight mounting. Of course the whole thing is manual, but for video that is no big deal.
in 2008/2009 i bought my first Voigtländer 58mm 1.4 with the rubber ring , I replaced the old version ( rubber ring ) with the newer version end 2016 . I own and tried many lenses I decided too keep only 2 lenses , 35mm Zeiss and 58mm 1.4 Voigt . now I reducing my gear and selling about 8 lenses ( modern and vintage ) the third lens that I keep only for fun 58mm f2 helios now I cleaned the lens elements tommorow cleaning the blades they have a lot of oil , one lens element has a bubble inside .
Duuuuude, I just found an original all black Topcor 58mm F1.4 from a local ebay marketplace listing for $70. It also came with a Besler Topcon Super D camera, a 135mm topcor and a 200mm topcor. Super happy about this deal! Now i just need to pick up an exacta mount adapter.
@@Noealz I was mistaken, it's not the 135mm. It's the Re.Auto-Topcor 1:2.8 100mm. Still neat though. Gotta love these people in the south who just list "vintage camera and lanse" and don't know what they have. Last year I picked up a Konica Autoreflex with a Konica Hexanon 57mm F1.2 attached to it off of facebook marketplace for $40.
In the 1970s I had the Topcon Super D camera and the Topcor 58mm f/1.8. What a great camera! Very innovative design for back then. Great lenses too; I had the Topcor 135mm f/3.5. I would not hesitate to use these on a mirrorless digital camera with an adapter. I now use a Nikon D850 and unfortunately these do not adapt to it well, the Exakta mount adapter contains optics of its own and they are cheap.
Hopefully it becomes easier and easier to adapt with newer lenses, not a lot of problems with mirrorless these days but would still like to use my DSLRs
have it mounted on my canon r6 its absolutley amazing. favorite lens so far a little soft at 1.4 but personally i like it at 1.4, the boketh is amazing
Thank you very much for this info. This is one of my favorite lenses. I inherited it from my dad who bought it new in Japan in the late 1960’s. I use it often on my Sony alpha 6000. One question I have is how do you adjust the aperture when using an adaptor? I had to make a special ring with a cross pin to close the blades as there isn’t anything to close them once they’re open. Again-thanks for the info. 👍👍
Thank you for the video. Just picked up the steal of the year for me. A Topcon RE Super camera with this lens on it for $15. Going through it and all seems to be in great condition, only need to replace the light seal on the camera. The lens is in mint condition. Now you really have me itching to try this out.
Thank you, great review. I finally got my 58 from eBay and I must agree with you on the amazing quality of the images out of this lens. Have you tried other Topcor lenses besides the 58, and if so, which do you recommend?
Currently I have RE Auto-Topcor 20mm f/4, RE 25mm f3.5, RE 35mm f2.8, RE GN 50mm f1.8, RE 58mm f1.8, RE 100mm f2.8, RE 135mm f3.5, and RE 300mm f5.6. ALL are amazingly SHARP lenses. Prices on Ebay are currently drifting downwards based on my observations over the last 5 years. The mount is Exacta / Topcon. I've converted all my Topcors to M42 mount for more universality. These lenses are not multi-coated except for the two RE GN 50's and I think the rare 85mm. Use a lens hood, no issues. Educate yourselves on these lenses. They are Leica quality. (FWIW: I shot with Leicas for 15 years) And all you new photographers remember. Get close. Then, get closer! "Click!"
Interesting story on the 1.4 lens. I commented on your other video that I have the 1.4 RE and the 1.8 RE lens, and found they were excellent for my hobby of taking pictures of the older fighters and other military aircraft. I have some UV lenses, but never attempted to mount them on my RE or Super D. I have a Leica M3, and believe the Topcon lenses are sharper for those types of pictures where the subject could take up most of the frame. I also have an Exacta Varex IIa, with the Zeiss Jenna lenses. I also like them but the Topcon is so easy to use, that it has always been my main camera. I confess, that lately, I have mostly been using my Nikon D5000 for pictures, because I am not traveling anymore.
@@Noealz I have seen that lens but don't have one. I also have some UV lenses, but the mount is different. I do have the matching camera, but have never used it. My Super D, and my RE 2 still work perfectly after all these years.

Finally someone who talks about this jewel. I fell in love with this after i watched the video of Monochrome Memories . Colors and bokeh are wow in my opinion ad they add a vintage touch and soul to you picture. Unfortunately i still can't buy this because it very expensive but i've found someone who sell the couple of 58mm 1.8 version and 35 mm f 2.8 in a very interesting and super affordable price. I want to ask you if the 1.8 version is good as the 1.4
Hi my brother. I just got this lens, beautiful condition and great lens. I bought a K&F m42 mount to Sony A7iii. The problem I have is it does not focus on infinity. Can you tell me what adapter you are using please?
Just got my 58mm 1.8 and 35 mm 1.4 and i really love them.I would like to try the 85 mm because in my opinion you could do some crazy beautiful portrait with that unique bokeh . Sadly, every price is prohibitive .
I just inherited a camera with a 58mm 1.4 on the body, along with a 200mm 5.6. I shoot video on a MFT mount (GH5 or BMD Pocket 4K). What's the best way to adapt these? Maybe through a focal reducer?
Do you have advise for cleaning this lens? Do I need to mark anything to make sure everything stays the same? I have never cleaned a lens so any input is appreciated.
If you've never cleaned one before - I don't suggest you try. First start cleaning other cheaper lenses since this one is quite expensive and requires some experience

Hi Noealz! Great video! I just came across one of this lens for a bargain but i'm a little hesitant by hearing that this lens was made with thorium (radioactive) coated glass. Since i will be putting it pretty close from my eyes, would be nice to hear your take on that. Can this radiation be harmful? Where can one get more info about this?
I'm currently searching for an exakta to EOS adapter, I have the Canon 1Ds Mark3 and plan to use the Topcor RE Auto 58mm f1.4 lens on it but the problem I'm running into is most of the Exakta adapters out there don't have their adapters machined for the pin for this particular lens mount. Has anyone come across a usable adapter for Topcor RE Auto lenses???
Great video! Do you know if there is a significant difference in the versions of this lens labeled 5.8cm versus 58mm? I think cm is older but am uncertain if there were changes to the build over time. Thanks!
very cool share on under rated or forgetten vintage lens sorry im a little confused on this lens mount or if they have the same lens for different mounts? currently using the PK and OM mounts which is kinda doubt that theres a Cosina lens for these mounts haha
Yeah I just got 2 Topcor lenses, and yeah you basically have the only video (there's one other one in Japenese). Would've loved so see some example photos and or video.
Don't have money for it anyway. (about 450 euros here) Please also include some pictures of the lens, the inside (if you open them, please make pictures), of the lens formulation, and of course pictures that you took with it? It's then easier to visualize why you like them so much. Thanks again. Much apreciated. Edit: I found the pictures. What I'm asking is, that if you like the contrast or the rendering of the colours, as example, please just add a picture in this video? I don't mind seeing pictures twice.
There is a guy that lives a few cities away (I live in Korea) and he is distributor for adapters) - I usually text message him and he knows me already so sends it and I get it the next day lol - but I suggest the pricier K&F ones
