Thanks for watching my Mavic Pro Time-lapse video! Comment with your best time-lapse tip or best time-lapse video. I would like to see what others are creating!
Hello did you ever used Dji GsPro i think it is only availible for ipad but it works like waypoints but it is better because you can pre plan your flight so you donot have too fly the path a first time and also you can make your cablecam as long as you want because you can use multiple batteries because it returns to where it has stopped. By doing so you can also do an awsome day to night hyperlapse when you overlap 2 hyperlapses. Hope i could help you advance your projects.
Thanks for these panning lapse videos. I'm trying to get better fixed position lapses for sunset and moonrise. Do you know any tricks to reduce the float? For example does tracking help to reduce the frame movements? Much appreciation for any help, Bob
Watched steps 1-5 and wondered 'How'd i do this with Litchi'.... then voila, step 6 appeared.. Nice one Jeff, great informative and easy to follow videos as usual..
Thank you very much for your professional teaching of the Mavic Pro. Thank you very much. You are a professional professor. I have been very pleased with your smooth learning style. I am waiting for you for more lessons in the future. Thank you.
This is awesome! Your videos are one of a kind, showing us the how to's then given great footage examples along with the instructions. Keep up the great work! You gained a follower.
One of the best short tutorials. Thanks. For your method two, try stabilizing it in post processing (e.g. warp stabilizer in Premiere) you will get amazing results.
This is not how to shoot time-lapse, but how to shoot in different capture modes. You NEVER talked about how to make it look like a true Time-lapse video by speeding up the frame rate or compressing time with video. But I understand it, your video doesn't explain that.
Best bet is to do the interval photo and then go to quicktime. Just make sure all images are jpeg or converts from DNG to jpeg. Once in quicktime go to File, Open Image Sequence, Select your 1st image and just play with the frame rate until you find something that's a relatively smooth video.
it's not software video, not about some sony vegas or premiere, so everything is good in video. Best time lapse goes from photos, not video, also all photos you should capture in raw.
i think it would be good to see these techniques with a strong nd filter and dragging the shutter as it just looks like sped up video. i really appreciate the techniques though.
Thanks for the thumbs up newie! I hear you. 9/10 times i shoot video and just speed up in post to get a time-lapse affect. I would rather not waste the short battery time just to get 1 time-lapse shot. I wonder if the dark ND filter might introduce too much blur/float for time-lapse photos. Have you tried this?
Hi there Jeff. Thanks for this lovely video and tips on timelapse options. Just a quick question does the litchi app work with the mavic air. I have been flying for about 5 months now first 4 months with my spark and the recently sold it and got my mavic air. Always wanted to use way points option but only to find out that it is not included in the mavic air so was considering buying the litchi app. Your inputs will help me decide. Thanks again.
Hi Kim, Litchi does not support the Mavic Air yet. But i believe this planned to be supported in the near future. Just a matter of DJI sharing the software code like they have for other models. I use Litchi on the Mavic Pro and hoping the Mavic Air support will be added soon.
6:49 who was engineer. i would give pilot simple commands to use.move up 200ft stop(using ramp) start move camera. stop record (hover, rth, return starting point). simple command no need fly todo it. would replace many auto modes. when can do it your self. and waypoint sound like draw line on map set altitude and point of interest.(NOT fly set point here) that uses BATTERY! and take time
You can't actually set any of these points without the drone being in the air. If you try the system will tell you the same thing. It's not pilot school.
nope all of them are shot using video, except the one interval shot. I just speed up the video afterwards in the video editor. I get much better results with time-lapse using video instead of interval shots.
how so you control the gimbal with the DJO Go 4 app? I have a phantom 4 and when I record way point 1 with the cam facing down, then way point 2 with it facing up, and run the saved program, the gimbal doesn't change position at all. Am i doing something wrong, or is this feature not supported on the phantom 4?
@@ShawnTalbot hi thanks for the comment. I don't think that will work with the dji go4 app unfortunately. However it works perfectly with the Litchi app using waypoints and the interpolate option. Check it out. Its a really nice app.
@@JeffGreeneChannel yeah, I like the litchi app idea but there were so many comments talking of issues with it the in the app store. What device are you using with the app and have you found it reliable?
That's why! I see :) So Litchi is like a 3rd party app right? If one uses Litchi, could the DJI go 4 app still record flight data as usual? (in case of a disaster scenario, one may need to find plane)
Appreciate your video, but the thing I didn't understand in watching this is: You did time lapse in photo mode, I get that, but when shooting in video mode, it appears you simply shot a video, then sped it up in post. Am I right? If so it would be edited video, not time lapse. Or did you use an app to create time lapse from video? Am I missing something?
Ken Wade yep you are absolutely correct. I guess it just depends on the definition of timelapse. Speeding up a series if images, whether taken at 30fps, or 1/sec?
Hi Charles, i have been using FCP x for several years now and have been very happy with it. Seems to be quite a few creative plugins that people come up with to keep things evolving as well.
OK awesome, keep up the good work..I have seen plenty of videos with the same goal in mind but your ability to stay on task without deviating from the topic is perfect. So many other you-tubers have attention defecate disorders and start talking about the topic and deviate from that topic 30 times through out the video loosing my interest.
Boris on the mavic pro i use the polar pro nd filters(usually around nd8). On the mavic air i have the polar pro polarized lenses that have served me well. Also used the freewell lenses. Both are good quality.
I think only technique 2 produce true time lapse movie, others are just fast forward mode, unless you speed up the movies more and painstakingly process the movies so that frame freezes between key frames.
Dictionary Definition of time-lapse : of, relating to, or constituting a motion picture made so that when projected a slow action (such as the opening of a flower bud) appears to be speeded up.🤔 hmmm, you may be right.....or it may be that the definition of what is a "slow action" is debatable?
in a sense, movie is also timelapse... only 25 or 30fps :) The biggest drawback of flying a drone for 'real' timelapse, is that it moves in the air, while most timelapses are shot on a tripod. In a sense timelapse with drone, especially when moving, is called hyperlapse, where you get the same 'shakiness', so... if you want to remove that 'move' of the drone, look for techniques they use, like warp stabilisation. Biggest reason for using 'photo' timelapse, is that your resolution is going to be much higher, and, if shooting RAW, you have way more control over the endresult (and you can zoom in if you want).
But Jeff knows why you are best to use speed up video when using a DJI drone. Try taking interval shots with your DJI drone just sitting on a table. You will look at the pictures taken when stitched an be amazed at how awful the gimbal works with Interval pictures. They jump around just sitting on a table, so you have to learn a new techniques perfected by Rufus Blackwell where he takes 4k video and breaks up the video into 2 second intervals and frame blends each one of those 2 second intervals to represent a single frame. This will produce the Blur every good time lapse creator searches for. Until DJI creates a gimbal that produces solid aligned pictures as a baseline when just sitting on a table, you are pretty much out of luck creating a time lapse with their drones. I have a P4P and Inspire 2 with X5S and they do the have the same problem when taking Interval pictures just sitting on a table. Jeff produced some pretty good time lapses here with speed up video. When you get a Chance lookup Rufus Blackwell and you will be amazed with the Time Warp Lapses he creates. Warp stabilizer has its limits when you are working with a terrible baseline when just sitting on a table. Give it a try and test it just sitting there on a table. Good luck with your time lapse pursuits.
maybe a silly question, but for the timelapse having too much shift, is it possible to remedy that by placing all the images in photoshop and doing an auto-align?
Hi Ray, yes indeed. I spoke too prematurely in the video. I actually "stabilized" the video in FCPx(a couple days after posting the video) and it worked very nicely that way. I'm not competent in photoshop, but I imagine the process would be similar.

I tried to do this with my Mavic AIR but I noticed it does not have Waypoints available. Only Point of interest. Is there any way to make time lapses like that with the Mavic Air???
Hi Jeff have you found that 3 mph of movement gives the best speed up video? Just wondering as I did some tests this morning at 1 mph and it does not smooth out any minor wind disturbances. I am going to try other speeds as soon as the weather clears up. Just wondering if you tested various mph runs. I think I have to find the sweet spot for my drone to see what mph will smooth out any minor external disturbances. Thank you.
Hi Jack, good question. I have not specifically tested different speeds for timelapse, only found that slower is better. The reason i use Tripod mode for this purpose is 1-for the slow speed, but 2-because i can go full throttle in Tripod in any direction, and then just worry about the left stick. Any slight variation in speed(shaky fingers/hand/right stick) will mess up the timelapse. So if i just go full throttle (in Tripod mode), the result is much smoother in the end.
