Wow! I owned one-71, bought -73 and uppgraded the outlook for the next models until 1975, when I bought a brand new 1975 orchede-white SAAB 99 in autumn, and , naturally, uppgraded it look like the model of- 76.. Those were the days. Young and crazy.
Thanks for the shout out! Must have filmed a couple weeks ago, as I have been making a lot of progress! (BTW; in college (UMass Lowell)) I use the acid from home cheapo. Less than 20 bucks for a gallon and is full strength I believe. Keep up the good work.
Glad you're getting some time in on the 96. You're extraction of this car from the last owner was what brought me to your channel. Looking forward to what this car will be after you're through.
Amesie! It's been too long. I do believe the last video I saw was of you digging this very Saab out and putting it on a trailer. Great work on the Flintstone's conversion of the Saab. There's only one way to take the following, and that's in a good way. I'm noticed a massive improvement in the production of your videos. Smooth camera, tighter editing, etc... Great stuff.... as is that rust converter.
perfect timing. actually about to get the grinder out on my recently acquired 1969 96. floor plans are pretty crusty in mine. looking forward to seeing how you do yours
Hey by the way with the shoutouts thing, I'm not sure if you know this but one of the guys you commented to awhile back, wasabi cars has a fairly big channel of his own, where he does car spotting in japan. as I came across him purely by chance when he found a bunch of muscle cars in japan or aulstralia of all places that showed up in my suggestions.
Looks like a big job, worthwhile though. I hope you are using hearing protection, I only say that because I damaged my hearing angle grinding old cars some years ago.
That frontal area rot is a real weak spot as it (obviously) joins the power train to the car. Back in the day I had the misfortune of seeing the remains of a Saab 95 wagon, it had got broad sided and the front clip tore off from the car, it was brutal to see. So due diligence here my friend in sorting this out as I am sure you will get it back to strong and healthy. I had my share of pre model 99 Saabs, I may even have some parts around, like heater core, relays etc. I'd have to look
Wow, so you brought it to a show before doing the work on it? Or was that a different '96? (BTW now I also look for fire extinguishers at shows, because of your last vid!)
Please be aware of welding/grinding splatter on your car's windows. My dad was also repairing rust on his 96, but ended up noticing it when everything was done.
i have a small rust spot in the back of my beetle not all the way through (spare tire area) was gonna sand it and put rubberized coating back on it. would that acid be better and do you object to rubberized coating for rust protection and can you use the acid on the underside of the car?
I know your restore is several years old and I started watching long before I acquired the same model from a family member back in June 2021. The previous owners can not find the key so I have been trying to source one or just use a screw driver. In the mean time I have been pressure washing and removing seats to address the rust issues on the Sabbie. I learned something new every time I rewatch your videos about your Saab. Any chance I could call and ask specific questions? This is my email, send me your contact info and I can call you, /thanks again, Mike Moore.
Hey Amesie! Been following your videos for a while now, you're doing some amazing work! I do own a Saab 9000 myself, 1998, anniversary model that has hardly gone any miles at all. It's almost completely rustfree except for one spot on the right front, (where they always rust). My question is, is there a good way to fix that front screen? I don't have that many tools to work with. My fear is that I will have to try to find a completely new screen but that is sadly quite expensive. Two pictures of the car if you're interested! :) i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Pontus_Andersson/IMG_50741_zpsbibqrr5e.jpg i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Pontus_Andersson/IMG_50751_zpsdvvnsncm.jpg
Rust Mort is great stuff! Paint it with Por15 after it dries. Will not rust again! 2 gallons on my Cadillac so far. Check out my videos on it. Nice Videos you have
Looking forward to the video's as you work on the 96. Is a trip to Haverhill Steel and Salvage in the works? Check out this youtube channel amesie. ua-cam.com/users/coldwarmotors
Big thanks to the your lady very patient gal Glad to see the 96 again
Work looks great. Looking forward to seeing the new metal go in.

Why was the answer mostly overlined?
I have no idea.
So much SAAB goodness =) Dank's Amesie !!
I was surprised that your wife was so patient. great video. thanks.
Clever editing makes her look more patient than she actually is...
I'm more of a VW guy but I really enjoy your Saab videos. Great entertainment!
both of those channels are great I've been watching them both for a while.
this video shined alot of light on some stuff i need to do on my 56 dkw 3=6
floors are in better shape than I thought they would be with all that rot in the rockers.
Another great channel is EricTheCarGuy - nice project on an old Ford Fairmont at the moment. Saab's looking a little happier now!
I'm subbed. He has hundreds of thousands of fans, he doesn't need my shout out, I like to get the little guy's the credit.
Agreed. Go the small guy! Keep up the good work.
Hey Amesie I´ve been watching all of your Saab 96 videos so far and man you do a great jobb :) I grew up in a 96 so this is def a nostalgica :=)

You've officially turned your Saab into a flintstone mobile, can't wait for next update.
I love seeing old cars of all kinds being brought back to life. Thanks for taking us along for the ride Amesie.
Nice to see someone giving a shout to some other channels. I wish the old girl a speedy recovery from her floorboard / rocker surgery.

Filmed it yesterday, only took about 5 hours to upload, edit and process
saw that look when you realised you cut out too much good metal. priceless.
Glad you're getting some time in on the 96. You're extraction of this car from the last owner was what brought me to your channel. Looking forward to what this car will be after you're through.
Awesome, vid!!! Being a huge Saab fan, I'm excited to see the progression of the metal work!
Good progress. I'm going to check out that acid.

Thanks for watching! That means a lot coming from a fellow UA-camr.

Looking at your eyes I'd say looking forward is the only choice you got...

Looks like a big job, worthwhile though. I hope you are using hearing protection, I only say that because I damaged my hearing angle grinding old cars some years ago.
I love fast back cars. I own one a Chevy cobalt. Don't like the drilling noise heh. "John

They must have been built to withstand Swedish Winters and I expect they use a ton of salt on their roads..
Wow, so you brought it to a show before doing the work on it? Or was that a different '96?

It was this car at the show, I wanted it to be as yard find fresh as possible it was a hit.
Please be aware of welding/grinding splatter on your car's windows. My dad was also repairing rust on his 96, but ended up noticing it when everything was done.
nice car.
do a tool box tour on the new tool box
Working on it, waiting for the cold weather when there's nothing to do outside..
Amazing chemical I must see if it's available in the UK.
The average age then was 11 years, - 82 half of the cars was gone.

Sand it then a bit of acid to convert the rust then coat with whatever you like.
cool thank you for the advice :)

Did that deal with the 'new' 9000 fall through? Or is it just on the back burner until the 96 is sorted?
All I'm going to say is yes I own a Saab 9000...

hey aimsie can you do a tutorial on welding I'm a big fan and watch all your videos
The 96 isn't too bad, could have been a lot worse. Gonna have to try the Rust Mort.
Amesie... you should check out "Coldwar Motors" on youtube. You might get a kick out of them.

Love your blogs but seems a common trait to spoil some of these DIY vids with annoying loud rock music, maybe my age lol.
are your ears ringin,,
X2! I was thinking the same thing, I would have the biggest headache! (I'm sub'd to both you and Mustie1. Keep up the videos yall!)
handling jagged, rusty sheetmetal without gloves ...come on, now ... time spent getting stitches and a tetanus shot is time away from the job ...
I need a break anyway.. But seriously my hands are like gloves already..
