They can and almost did stop them essentially by going over their heads straight to the Government, in particular Attorney Generals office. I really felt for the prosectors in such circumstance.
It's horrifying that the highest in law enforcement actually try to do some REAL good, and then money and corruption smothers them. For a US attorney to take on something this big was a great personal sacrifice and I love to believe men like that are still out there trying to do some good. "They cannot be bought.". Incredible.
This is probably a stupid comment, but the scary thing about this scene is that they know what they've been doing and that it has been destroying lives. It's implied throughout the series that Richard genuinely believes that what he is doing is relieving people's chronic pain. But this scene shows that they know they are misleading people, and have to lawyer up.
Richard along with the other sacklers are all narcissistic in the way they deny that they have any responsibility for the opioid epidemic. They all know behind the curtains it's all a big scam and a way to filter money through distributing narcotics as non addictive or safe to use. I had to watch this show a couple of times to kinda see it but even arthur knew what he was doing when he came up with psychic tension and added valium to be taken with a list of antipsychotics, hence more money to be made for the company. There is no true philanthropy among purdue pharma. Whatever they think they are, they arent lol
Even one of their executives, being a lawyer, was charged with a misdemeanour. The crazy thing about all of this is, a Company with enough equity can lobby high up the Government chain to alter prosecutions against them. In essence, they can go over the prosecutors heads and straight to the Attorney Generals Department.
Right ?? Guy is such a piece of shit. If I were on trial for murder and my defense choices were only myself(no legal training) or Rudy Giuliani..... I'd choose myself.
I know these three men weren't able to fully get this scumbag..but I give them credit...3 principled men chose to help and bring down this horrible travesty. I loved got out of army to pursue law degree and his father is Secretary of the Army and the other two help people because they want justice....these men cannot be bought. OMG shivers...
I realize they dramatized things for this TV series but I hope the real men who brought down the legal dope dealers were just as pure. Nobody should ever suffer with addiction to illegal drugs, so the idea of people being lied to and completely misled regarding how extremely addictive opiates are is utterly horrifying. I realize that medical practitioners/doctors/etc do need reliable medications but the way these filth actually lied and bought off the FDA is disgusting.
This scene and others plus the movie "the report" are what people in legal work should strive for and be when doing these roles. It is the solemn duty to uphold justice and to hold others accountable for their corruption and horrible action against the people. And it inspires the hell out of me
I watched this series. It's really good. I always go back to this scene. I really enjoy it very much. I wish there were real attorneys and such like the ones they are talking about. I find marvel movies to be more believable though.
If someone told me that I had to be stuck in a room with either the Sinaloa cartel or the Sackler family I would pick the Sinaloa cartel. At least the cartels are pretty straight up about who they are and told the truth about their product. The Sackler group? They were sneaky
Sure. But it started the dominoes falling. John Kapoor is in prison for similar tactics and pharmcorp's underhanded tactics have been exposed and closely monitored. I'm not a religious man, but i hope they all burn in hell.
Does anyone here find it unusual how the Sackler's interactions with each other are more business like than family like? They don't seem to talk about other stuff than business. I find it weird that Richard told his own father that he ruined a perfectly good evening. I also found it weird Kathe Sackler told her own father that his time is done.
Always reminds me of a mafia boss scene because of the secret back room meeting. That family and government officials made so much money off Americans dying and getting addicted to painkillers.

A 9/11 hero? He showed up for a photo opp, handing out bottled water. Then he parlayed that into a run for the Presidency, as a "9/11 suvivor",.He's as much a 9/11 survivor as the other 6.226 billion people on Earth in 2001.
How many survivors did Rudy pull out of the rubble of his city? I do know he used 9/11 to try to remove the mayoral term limits of NYC and push himself onto a 3rd ballot, only after attempting to cancel the November elections after they were delayed 3 months. That happened. Dude is a power-hungry scumbag who doesn’t care one iota about democracy. Just like Trump.
one of my favorite scenes from the series, get goosebumps when he realises there is nothing they can do to stop them

Of course they knew bro! You think these bastards care about any of us, that’s what blows my mind with Covid, crazy man they made big big profit
Not unlike a lot of big business in America. Watch, Dark Waters another true film about greed.
I lov eit when people like this realise they can't bribe someone. I love seeing them squirm.
Great acting on their part. With the subtleties and all that
Rudy Giuliani. Always on the side of the angels.

El Chapo wishes he was as effective in his rackets as The Sacklers.

The cartel won't necessarily harm you.

At that level, few ever do. Unfortunately.
Rich people don't go to prison unless they fuck over other rich people.
not yet

Nah, they're just Hebrews
Money corrodes people's humanity. There's a direct negative correlation between the amount of money one has and the empathy theyre capable of.
We are going to hire Rudy Giuliani... The man was always for sale.
I grew up 20 miles from abingdon, Va and that region continues to be destroyed by opiates. This series made me beyond angry and sad.
wow
This is awful..sad that people make money off of others misery!! I know firsthand

Love how he mentioned his father being “high up” politically to add weight 🧐🧐
