That shot is awesome!!!!! I've been going there for years and was at the show that day. If i could come up with the funding I'd buy the Military to defend this track and it's heritage. This is THEEE best place to take family and friends (and new prospect gear heads) to get a true life experience of flat out racing. The power of this facility is unstoppable. And that ain't shit talking it's the truth. If you ever get a chance go for it. You will have a great time. Later FLAT OUT
Wow!!a car wheelie competition!! Its not easy to drive like that and when one off the drivers said doing this in a safe environment here on the track deserve my respect..nice video anyway..
Think I saw a couple versions of "The Little Red Wagon". Was like a older van/pickup with a blown motor in the bed. "Hemi Under Glass" was a crowd pleaser. But one wheel stander was putting out so many sparks (intentionally), he caught the top end of the race track on fire, their was so much oil Down on the grass at US 30 Dragstrip.
I'm from Illinois and got my license in 1980. I'll always remember my friends and I had nice fairly stock muscle cars. But in the late Spring, through Summer, the really fast, badass cars came out. That's because the real drag racers we're working on their cars during the harsh Winters. The firemen in my town had the best ones.
What are the rules of this competition? A purpose built wheelie car could run the whole track on it's rear bumper. What prevents someone building and running something that has 200lb on the front axle?
still makes my heart rev up I've seen a couple times really cool I'm an old dude but I could still do that no doubt about it if I had a bunch of money he he he
Brian Anbrosini with the orange gremlin was always my favorite, until he did something assinine with his buddy and robbed a snapon dealership and got caught. Lol !
Right - While it was a little long in the explanation it served to give history and the man who put this on also deserved to be featured as well. Some people have to mature to get respect for this sort of thing. Great Video - thanks for doing it.
hey ron hows it going you looking healthy this is karl the guy that beat dents in your station wagon i think it 3was station wagon its been 40 years probably 35 for sure john woods had your car i didnt know it was yours and slick ass johnny got my money and burned me thought it was his car spenca say hi to ed spears for me when you see him im out here in fontana california live a mile from california speedway glad to see good old byron still up and running keepp it up good work
That's why there is drag racing in America and almost non on the UK $10,000 prize money not a £200 entry fee and a £5 plastic trophy at the end when you win.
The Olds was going to win on distance, but he drifted off the side of the track and hit the wall. It looked to me like he was going to go the whole 1320'. I wondered why he didn't set it back down when he started going off to the side, but maybe he couldn't see down the track while he was in the wheelie. Purpose-built wheelstanders like the Hemi Under Glass or the Lil Red Truck had windows in the floors and individual wheel brakes on the rear axle so they could see and steer down the track. They were also built with a heavy rear weight bias with the engine in the rear so they were easy to get into a wheelie.
Ron Leek passed away Thursday July 11. 😔 We will all miss him and what he’s done for this sport.
Will miss you Ron. Great times at Byron

the guy know's how to control that car.. he deserved to win!
That last ride was amazing. All he could see was the sky, and probably praying not to hit anything at the same time lol.

Miss running at your track Ron!
THAT WAS JUST UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE!!! GREAT SPORT

Wheel Standers are good content for dragstrips all across the US...imo!!

Man! First time I've seen someone bounce a car between the rear bumper and slicks at will. He was toying with it.
This might be the most awesome thing eva

Dave Micolichek ya my dad is a dealer
excellent vid!!
That last one was a Good wheel stand.
Less talkie, more wheelie
Proffessor Harrold Hill - it was a feature story, therefore one must have talkie to explain what is going on
If you’re a professor I’m sure you should be able to figure out when the word feature is in the title it means it is exactly that
Right - While it was a little long in the explanation it served to give history and the man who put this on also deserved to be featured as well. Some people have to mature to get respect for this sort of thing. Great Video - thanks for doing it.
Proffessor Harrold Hill ❤️❤️❤️
That shit is incredible! Friggin awesome!

Pretty much anything can be fixed, including that car.
Best part is at 8:50
Damn! and I thought our wheelie was big...
If you think that is,look up hemi under glass, little red wagon, just saying
Didn't the guy in the Gremlin go to prison for stealing and selling Snap On Tools, or am I mistaken?
"It's my first car then it turned into a wheelie car and I've loved it ever since"
*cuts to him crashing it*
I felt that one...
Pretty sure he rolled that car a few years back if i recall correctly. Gorgeous car
@@nickstickB No Camera at end of Track huh?
@@WisdomOverWicked777Rules Not sure. All I remember is that it was older footage
@@nickstickB back in 2005 yeah was my first time going to Byron ever and now it's a tradition

Front wheels locked up he still riding the hell out of it
That Chevy Luv took off something fierce..
8.06 shes all good. sum buffing and a wash , good as new
Amazing
With so much torque, how do they keep the frame from twisting and distributing the power to one rear tire?
Locked differential. Both tires spin at the same time always. Very strong frames and roll cages welded to the frames
Fantastic editing! Tyler and I are honored to contribute to CompetitionPlus!
wish all the wheelies came before or after the interviews... so i could skip them lmao
Just being a pain in the butt lol. i do appreciates the talkie

The Olds' radio wasn't working, so he couldn't hear his crew telling him to back off.

Great video! I subscribed just now.

Who needs wings to FLY .
The firefighters deserved the best.
Very had to keep those vehicles straight while going down the strip.....
Bad ass
That shit is Fucking insane. Plexiglass floor boards for me
And the ford pinto
Really wish there was less talking. I came to see wheelies. Not people talking
It's a feature, aimed to tell the background of the event, just not the show.
thats just amazing hehehe what power and guts lol
LITERALLY-BALLS TO THE WALL(FIREWALL)
RACIN 78 Rubbin is racing, but hitting the wall like that, that's crashing.

How in the World can that winning pass be topped? Put a Fork in this sport...
