I just got my first one today! Didn’t know they came in purple, I’m excitedly looking for one immediately! Maybe I should wait though, to make sure I don’t kill it!😬😅
I've been in love with shamrocks for many years ! I've had a purple one for more than 15 years, a green one, called IRISH MIST for two years and recently I've bought two volcano oxalises I'm so happy now to have all of them!
Many thanks! . I received my oxalis regnellii corms yesterday and my granddaughter is coming over after school today to help me plant them in pots. There is so much about the care and history of the plant that I can now share with her. We plan to give them to family and friends for St. Patrick’s Day as the plants are hard to find in the stores.
Thank you for sharing! I love shamrock plants. My mother in law has had hers for over 50 yrs. They're so amazing and beautiful. I have the green with white flowers and the purple with pink flowers.
My shamrock and i say hello! 😂☘️💖Ive always loved shamrocks, Ive had mine for a little over 5 years, it's doing pretty well but i wanted to make sure i was taking care of it properly. I appreciate the care tips and the lore was really interesting! Thank you for sharing!💖☘️
So helpful to know about the dormant period!! Thank you Now I’m wondering if that’s all that happened to my last one Just got a new one today - so wanted to research more this time Super helpful. Thank you!
I am so glad! I love love love our shamrocks! and All three of ours are going gangbusters and are refusing to ever go dormant ! It's crazy and they keep flowering all the time! I hope yours give you lots of happiness!😀🪴
I have the green and purple shamrock and i had no one idea how to take care of it. So thank you for the help! I was scared it was drooping because i was killing it
When I was given this plant, I was told when the stems got “leggy” to “shave” the plant. To just cut off the stems straight across the plant & it’ll grow back. So far I’ve not seen anyone else say that.
My lucky day❣️ I found your video💚 I have this plant and it died….I thought. Woke up this morning and there’s a leaf when there were nothing but soil and I continued watering as if it had leaves 🤣
Hey there. I'm so glad I found you. One or two leaves on my Shamrock, Kathleen, are showing brown spots on the tip of her leaves. Someone gave her to me in April. She wasn't in the best condition so I removed her from that container and repotted her. Every morning I see the cutest little light green baby flowers peeking up at me. I enjoy her so much b/c she seems to have a personality. Today's date is October 16th. So I'm wondering if she has a fungus or is she heading into her dormant stage? I live in a suburb of Detroit Michigan. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi there! If you see brown spots it is mot likely a sign of too much or too little watering. But if Kathleen is looking less vibrant overall with less leaf sprouts coming up, she might be getting ready to go dormant. Mine have been going dormant at different times during the year, sometimes in late summer or out in November.... or not at all some years. My Shamrocks( currently I have them near a NW window (no direct sun) and they are always surprising me with their growing spurts and hibernations. Hope this helps and please give my regards to Kathleen. 😀🪴
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN thank you so much for your speedy reply. I usually water her once a week but now that I think about it maybe I gave her too much water this past week. So I will cut back on the water, and hopefully I will see a difference. I have a Northern exposure which has seemed to work well. So I may very well have given her too much water. Thank you again.
How can you tell if you are over watering or under watering? Should the soil always be damp? Do you wait until soil is completely dry before water? Clearly, I don't have a green thumb :)
Hi there, if you are underwatering, your shamrock will get very droopy. And if you are overwatering, the leaves will also droop but the shamrock stems will be plump and full with water, to find the right balance, just follow our weekly watering schedule from video and you should be fine as long as you have the right soil mix. 😀🪴
thank you for the information, I rescued one from Lowes, and it did really well, but then started to turn brown and get white spots on the leaves and its been that way for a while, I repotted it to a bigger pot and it still has the same white spots. I don't have it in direct sunlight what can be happening, I wanted to repot it again but I'm afraid.
It could be those leaves have a fungus, you can look to add a fungicide to help control the problem. Or trim those spotted leaves off and let new growth come in. 😀🪴
I have had my shamrock for several years and we thoroughly enjoy it. It was doing great but the bulbs are not more tubular and sticking out of the soil by over an inch and it isn't getting near as many leaves and become leggy. Not sure what to do, do I split the bulbs, cut it back or what? Also, when the flowers die, do you pull them off or cut them? I have leaves that die now too. Maybe it's just old. HELP!
Hi, it could be your shamrock is going into her lazy sleepy mode. You could throttle back watering and give her a rest for a month or so in a more lower light area. Then bring back to bright lifght area and increase watering to kick start her growth. Mine will sometimes slow down at different times of the year and their growth will look leggy too, As to bulbs, I wouldn't split them, but maybe add a bit of potting mix to cover the top of orange bulbs sticknig above the soil level. On old flowers, i cut them off. Hope this helps! 😀🪴
Hi! I grow mine indoors and they love it. But it all depends on what you want, you could put on patio, but no direct sunlight and protect form winds. Hope this helps! 😀 🪴
Ohhh, if you are talking about the Oxalis triangularis ( reddish purple leaf color) we did a video on that plant too about a year and a half ago! I LOOOVE THE PURPLE SHAMROCK PLANT! 😀🪴Here's the video link. ua-cam.com/video/9A-snaj3i78/v-deo.html
I planted 20 shamrock corms in a pot indoors 7 days ago and I don't see any signs of growth. Is that normal? The pot gets lots of sun and good indoor potting soil. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi! Just give them some time to get used to their new home. Could be a few weeks actually for new growth to show. But …When they are ready to grow you will start to see these adorable little curling stems popping out from soil! Enjoy! 😀🪴
If the new leaves/stems droop, it could mean you need to water your Sham a little more; but before you water, test the soil to see if dry. If soil is damp wait a day or so to water, but water well, all the way around the plant. 😀🪴
Has this happened to anyone else?...when I bought the lucky Shamrock it had green leaves with white flowers, now after owning it for about 6 months the leaves are almost all light pink with a tiny touch of green in the center and the flowers are still white . I have tried moving it to different windows but no change, still pink. I think the pink looks beautiful but I know with some other plans it's a sign of sunburn and I don't want it to suffer. Please help.
Hi there, sorry your shamrcok is not doing well. You may have placed your plant too close to bright sunlight, Keep her in the new location for a while and shee if new leaves come out green. If new groth is sluggish, it might mean your shamrock wantws to go dormant, which is normal from time toi time. Just reduce watering a bit if you notice leaves wilting and groth slowing, thats a sign she wants to hibernate for a while ( +/-couple months). Then when shes ready, she will start shooting out a bunch of new leaves for you. Hoe this helps. 😀🪴
Hi there, it could be several things, overwatering ( dont let the soil be soggy- shams like water, but not standing water) Or it could be underwatering see if your soil is super dry to touch 1 inch down. Another culprit could be low humidity. Do you have a dry growing environment ? If yes, then add a pebble tray. Hope this helps😀🪴
Ok, let’s see what’s happening. The lucky shamrock will sometimes go dormant and that is a normal process. I had one of mine Just go dormant a few months ago. She will look like she’s dying or dead to soil level but it’s ok. Reduce watering (1x month) and place in a med light spot. Then in the next month or so, increase watering ~1x week and she should start to put on new leaves shortly thereafter from her bulbs beneath the soil. Now another thing besides going dormant is that if you are overeating or under watering your oxalis will wilt, check soil to make sure it’s not too dry or soggy. Hope this helps and your pretty plant bounces back soon ! 😀🪴
she put it one day in the bright sun. a nono then brought it back to me,would it help to just replant to bulbs instead of seeing all these wilted babies struggling. she says its just a plant but to me its the one Shamrock plant that made me fall in love and want more. i used miracle grow moisture care which is supposed to protect from over or under watering and feeds for 6 months. please help.is there a book i should have for taking care of them i now have 4.
