Charlie Horse? LOL I believe Mickey later played the Wizard in a stage production in the '90s. :) He may not have been in the original film, but he had been good friends with Judy Garland. In one of his other movies, "Phantom of the Megaplex", his character delivers a speech about how much the movies are important to him, and when he talks about 'a young girl from Kansas transported to a magic land', you can almost see him trying to keep it together thinking about his dear friend.
Brains 🧠, Hearts ❤ & Courage 🎖 Dorothy's three friends already had they wanted. They just didn't know it. Dorothy herself had all three for shes a smart, kind & brave girl.
When I was at Primary School, one class did a production of The Wizard of Oz, and after they'd killed the Witch the Wizard proceeded to explain with Solomon-like wisdom how they'd just demonstrated themselves to already have what they were looking for!
I'm surprised Jack Pumpkinhead 🎃 didn't appear in the film, Legends of Oz. That film also takes place after the events of the first story, The Wizard of Oz. Jack Pumpkinhead is known to have met dorothy when she returns to Oz.
Yeah but even Baum steered away from the book when he made his movies. I mean, look how successful the 1939 movie was, and they barely used the book for the script. I think that was one of the rare times when the movie was actually better than the book, imo. The books are good, but they're not exciting enough for the big screen lol.
I think it mostly boils down to the film maker wanting credit for originality and, in the case of MGM's TWOZ, the need to keep it under two hours and a lack of modern techniques. Example, look at what can be done if a studio really wants to stay closer to the books in Disney's Chronicles of Narnia or especially the Tolkien movies when time and spfx are no longer a problem.
Ah, yes.. I've been following the latest news. Disney is making at least two more sequels to OTG&P. The next will take place before TWOZ (the 1st book). TWOZ may be the 3rd film in the series. Details are few but if you recall, Oscar's g/f Annie is engaged to marry "John Gail" (possibly the parents of Dorothy Gale). There's a 20 year gap between OTG&P & TWOZ which will be the time period covered in the sequel.
Yeah that's true. I actually think the makers of Oz the Great are making a sequel based on the first book. And they will probably make it closer to the book.
:) Glinda was wearing the SILVER SHOES at the end of the film, but OTG&P is not without it's continuity errors for the books. For instance, they said that Glinda was the daughter of the former King of Oz (i.e. King Pastoria), which seems to dismiss the whole backstory of Princess Ozma from the 2nd book (The Marvelous Land of Oz). Perhaps Ozma & Glinda will turn out to be sisters to reconcile this point?
I actually liked Oz the Great and Powerful too. And If I remember correctly, RTO was pretty close to the books, wasn't it? I like the books, but they aren't 'movie material', you know?
RTO was a sad meshing of the 2nd & 3rd books and made too many changes to the content IMNSHO. I disagree about the books not being for film. Baum himself adapted the books for stage from the beginning. And with modern techniques much can be accomplished for the screen, too. No doubt Baum would have adapted to film had he the backing of a studio.
Wasn't a fan of RTO, either. I did enjoy OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, though. Typically I wish they would stick closer to the books, but ya get what ya get, I guess.
I agree. The only good thing about it was some of the cast and that was it. The forgettable songs and weak plot make this film low on the list of produced Oz films.
Imagine this movie produced just like the first except with a huge budget and practical effects. It would be iconic...
8:21 one of the most beautiful endings ever!

Hickory, Zeke and Hunk must've gotten fired.
Johni OZ
Not likely. In all fairness, they were reliable, hardworking, trustworthy farmhands.
Apparently, in one of the books she goes to live in Oz permanently with Henry and Em
Cool. And Toto, too without a doubt. Plus, toto would be able to talk like the other animals in Oz.

Well it's Pumpkinhead in this one but his full name is Jack Pumpkinhead. Oh heck you know what I mean!

What is the name of that song in 8:21? it sounds beautiful for an ending of Journey Back To Oz?
This film missed the mark on Oz's original message.
It doesn't matter. We don't have to worry about the player named MARK MESSIER and his NYR jersey. I made a meaning to recite it.
Oooops... I meant "John Gale" of course.
RTO was a sad meshing of the 2nd & 3rd books and made too many changes to the content IMNSHO.

What 'something' exactly?
Something.
Why post it on a video that has nothing to do with him?
Why? What does that have to do with this?
What do you mean?
Meh... not the worst animated feature I've seen, but as a bona fide Oz fan, I find this very disappointing.
