@tedberd - I learned about just some of the complexities of Ethiopia's many ethnic groups and the ethnic hatreds of certain ethnic groups from a fellow Registered Nurse (Orthodox Christian) & it reminded me of the Balkans. I see Abiy going to war with Eritrea to at least get the southern port because they pay though the nose to get goods in through Djibouti. It's survival. I'd like to see Ethiopia develop more but Eritrea is kneecapping any chance of that. I don't favor starting wars but Eritrea is in the way (3.8 million persons) vs 145 million. I think by sometime this coming year. Eritrea is holding it's own people down and hindering Ethiopia. Prosperity could help alleviate ethnic tensions to a safer level I would hope.
@willjapheth8033 they had intervened initially. They were supporting TPLF advance to the capital. Not only that, when they overthrew the communist government of Mengistu Hailemariam, the US had supported the local militias as well. Otherwise there was no way that war would've been won. @StoicS4m0r41 oh, I was more thinking of food aid intervention to prevent the famine, more so than actually picking a side militarily, but if we fully picked the Tygray side, they should've stopped the famine as well.
@FilthyAngryIrishPeasant There’s no ethnic hatred in Ethiopia. To see this you have to backtrack the history of Ethiopia. Ethiopians target always was the regime. Mostly recently the regime created ethnic federalism to divide peoples unity against the regime. The new ethnic federalism give false hope that if a lead comes from such tribe it will empower that tribe but in reality that tribes life no different than any others. Prosperity party plays the same old tactics to stay in power, it has zero police’s or plan to change ethnic federalism. All it did was change former party names 4 or 5 times.

I think we can learn a basic lesson here: To right historic wrongs, violence will only perpetuate wrongs. Only peace and understanding can lead to truly healing these past wrong. Revenge will just perpetuate the cycle. Don't ask for land or money, ask to be treated the same.
Ethiopia can never have peace because it is a bunch of enemies locked into one country. Imagine locking France, Germany, and the UK into one country. That will not end up well for anyone.
@@JoeyP946 Which is why it's important to come to an understanding. Look it's never easy. It's always the classic cooperation Punnet Square. You explained everything that's happening right know in the country. For your knowledge those guys who crowded your comment box ,are Abiy Ahmed's cyber armies.
Dear journalist, Abiy is widely regarded as one of the best leaders in Africa. It is important to acknowledge that many of the problems we see today have deep roots that extend back to previous administrations. Abiy has taken on the immense responsibility of addressing these long-standing issues and working towards their resolution. While it is unrealistic to expect him to solve all problems immediately, he is committed to shouldering the burden and making significant strides towards positive change.
Abiy has been an advocate for African unity and integration, emphasizing the importance of collective action to address common challenges. He has actively engaged in regional organizations, such as the African Union, to promote cooperation among African nations.
Absolutely, this criticism seems unjustified and overly simplistic. The situation he's in is a classic 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' scenario. If he chooses not to fight, he's accused of passivity and letting his nation crumble. If he opts for confrontation, he's criticized for aggression. It's an impossible bind. In such complex situations, decisions are rarely black and white. There are layers of nuance and geopolitical dynamics at play that a simplistic hit piece won't capture. Real leadership often involves making the least bad choice from a set of difficult options, not the ideal choice from a set of good ones.
I've got friends and old co-workers from Ethiopia and Eritrea both--and seeing this hurts, because I know that my friends are here in the States and can't do anything but watch. :(
Unbiased ! really, hahha. I think he stopped short of mentioning the sponsors of the video. It is blatantly biased that, why did he bother not to mentioning them (like most youtuber, like shaving creams, hair trimmers, dietary supplements), or I could say he is willingly ignorant of the real situation happening in the horn of Africa, which is a possibility (doubtful, still probability).
Eritreans will always be ready to defend thier country and the territories award to Eritrea as per the final and binding Algers agreement of 2000. Eritrea is small but mighty. Abiy's Ethiopia should be careful before thinking of invading Eritrea as it will be the complete collapse of the nation of Ethiopia as we know it.

I bet Simon stuck his head in the freezer after doing this episode, just to cool his brain after delivering such an eloquent and extraordinarily detailed explanation of this countries troubles. 🤔
Its because its a civil war like in sudan, congo and many other countries and under the UN, foreign countries don't have the right to interfere in a civil war only in a war between two state like kn isreal and Palestine or Ukraine and russia.
The UN is for matters between seperate nations. What goes on inside a country not being the UN's business is something required for the UN to be able to exist and have people be part of. Same goes for its' powerlessness for that matter

Worry about your country. Don't interfere in the internal affairs of Ethiopia. The people of Ethiopia elected him overwhelmingly, and he has the backing of the majority of Ethiopians.
It is a great presentation except a few key points missed. Regional borders were demarcated by TPLF. This is an important fact that listeners should know. TPLF took that opportunity to grab lands of Welkait and Raya, which were originally Amhara territories, incorporating them into Tigray region. The present political system of Ethiopia was formed including the constitution by TPLF, and nothing has changed since the rulers have developed vested interests.
No true stop spreading propaganda, That land was taken from the Tigrayan people by hailesilasie and was given back to the rightful owners when eprdf took power. Historically Tigrayans have been ethnicity cleansed from these areas time and time again but I think this will be the last time it’s the 21st century the land isn’t going anywhere and will be under Tigrayan forces very soon from my understanding.
@@ethiocsc8289 not true Tplf is not gone I just googled it. They are no longer in power in Ethiopia but still have a strong hold over the Tigray region. Makes sense
Eritrea has always been an independent sovereign country for centuries. The Turkey Egypt Italy and the British have consequentially colonised Eritrea while Ethiopia was a free country that has not been colonised. Yet the UN decided on a federation agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia. But after a few years that treaty was obliterated by the Ethiopian emperor at that time and annexed Eritrea as an Ethiopian state. Ethiopia then started to colonise Eritrea by force.
Eritrea is a artificial creation of Italian colonialism. Italy established colonial Eritrea in 1890 and this entity has never existed as a sovereign state before 1993. The highlands was part of Ethiopia's realm since Zagwe period.
As a ethiopian, I appreciate how you tried to show the current ethiopian geopolitical issue but this is something that you can't understand First, the ongoing civil war isn't his fault but rather because of where he came from as ethiopian people hate each other regarding of their birthplace and lineage. Secondly, he is working for the interst of his country. Overall the people who are saying 👏 to you claiming that they are ethiopian are just haters who don't only hates him but also his region( the region he came from). I really appreciate your work but you need to go deep down into the social and historical conflict between regions to understand more about the ongoing civil war.

Thank you for creating this video and giving a voice to the Tigray, Amhara, and Oromo victims of the brutal and manipulative Ethiopian government under Abiy Ahmed and his regime. Genocide and famine have been used as mechanisms of war against these people. Women are raped, civilians are killed, and children are savagely murdered by the Ethiopian federal forces under Abiy Ahmed's command. This dehumanization of ethnic groups demands justice. The international community must act swiftly to hold him accountable for these atrocities. Justice is needed for peaceful opposition parties, journalists, and human rights activists who have been arrested or killed by this regime. The International Criminal Court should bring Abiy Ahmed to justice, setting an example for all African leaders.
The ICC is no place for us to solve our problems. The prosecutor of the ICC Karim Khan, told us what those international courthouses are for; and that’s for Africans& thugs like Putin. Africans need to ween themselves off of the poisoned-chalice institutions like The Hague. They don’t represent us& never have they. We must seek to band together as Africans in order for us to solve the problems of our continent. And if history is anything to go by, it’s clear that any& all foreign interference on the motherland has brought nothing but despair& destruction. The Natives of Africa must learn& if we don’t, then we’ll most certainly perish.
as an Ethiopian this video honestly largely excludes Abiy's side of the story, i try to be as neutral as possible in forming my opinion as my country's currently in a very tricky situation and so i try not to skew too harshly to one side but you honestly need to consider that the man given the task of making a country more democratic while arguably the lack of democracy itself was what was preventing a major conflict such as the recent northern conflict from breaking out earlier. in hind sight its easy to point out the results of his decisions as nothing but obvious but in truth he was in a position of power where everyone even the Oromo mistrusted him as they saw him as a traitor that sided with the TPLF and at the moment believe it or not his decisions were viewed as sensible steps towards peace by almost every media outlet within the country. while the west mostly agrees that a peaceful Yugoslavia is the best outcome all that would do is turn a would be civil war into a normal war. while groups like the OLA and the TPLF are influencal in this stage they're very much the loud minority, the majority of Ethiopians simply want peace and would be happy to forgive and forget the sins of their ancestors but paranoid militant groups that run a heavily one sided rhetoric contribute nothing towards peace.

Correction : Among a number of errors in your detailing of the war, the most prominent was how the war started. It began following the preemptive strike by the Tplf insurgents upon the North command forces that secured the border between Eritrea and Ethiopia🔔🔔🔔. You keep confusing Fano with the Amhara special forces. Fano militia became active as a result of subsequent direct attacks on farming societies of Amhara background following the massacres by OLA, Tplf and others alike. The Amhara Special forces however were the allies that fought in Tigray war who have themselves been disbanded at this time.
Abiy's efforts towards political reforms, including the release of political prisoners and the opening up of the political space, have shown a commitment to democratic values and principles that can inspire similar changes in other African nations.
Thank you for covering this calamity that's up on Ethiopians. The reality on the ground has been hidden from the world, Abiy Ahmed works hard to keep the outside world out of his affairs, but behind the sceen he is raining bullets with drones on innocent civilians because he can't see or find the freedom fighters. The freedom fighters ( FANO) have the ability to fight from key positions and they are also in an advantageous position, because they are familiar with the terrain.
Abiy's focus on expanding access to education, healthcare, and infrastructure has contributed to social development and improved living standards, highlighting the importance of investing in human capital across the continent.

Dear journalist,
Abiy is widely regarded as one of the best leaders in Africa.

Exactly! I’m so happy welkait & raya is back to Amhara region

Eritrea was the colonized part of Ethiopia later on which became a country.
Eritrea is a artificial creation of Italian colonialism. Italy established colonial Eritrea in 1890 and this entity has never existed as a sovereign state before 1993. The highlands was part of Ethiopia's realm since Zagwe period.

No doubt that Abiy Ahmed is the most dangerous WAR LORD in Africa!
as an Ethiopian this video honestly largely excludes Abiy's side of the story, i try to be as neutral as possible in forming my opinion as my country's currently in a very tricky situation and so i try not to skew too harshly to one side but you honestly need to consider that the man given the task of making a country more democratic while arguably the lack of democracy itself was what was preventing a major conflict such as the recent northern conflict from breaking out earlier. in hind sight its easy to point out the results of his decisions as nothing but obvious but in truth he was in a position of power where everyone even the Oromo mistrusted him as they saw him as a traitor that sided with the TPLF and at the moment believe it or not his decisions were viewed as sensible steps towards peace by almost every media outlet within the country. while the west mostly agrees that a peaceful Yugoslavia is the best outcome all that would do is turn a would be civil war into a normal war. while groups like the OLA and the TPLF are influencal in this stage they're very much the loud minority, the majority of Ethiopians simply want peace and would be happy to forgive and forget the sins of their ancestors but paranoid militant groups that run a heavily one sided rhetoric contribute nothing towards peace.

Fano militia became active as a result of subsequent direct attacks on farming societies of Amhara background following the massacres by OLA, Tplf and others alike. The Amhara Special forces however were the allies that fought in Tigray war who have themselves been disbanded at this time.
