That’s why so many rappers are wack and sound like they not prepared jmo
You write and probably try to sound like others 😂
@@theweeknd-starboyalbum6560 stop it bro. this 2020's generation is full of way more copy cats than ever before. ppl who wrote their verses sounded more original.
I got a box with 2,000+ verses I’ve written throughout the years, writing helped me learn structure and how to connect thoughts. Yes I freestyle, but if it wasn’t for all the writing I’ve done my freestyles wouldn’t be as cohesive 🙌✅
That's why shits whack nowadays, muthafucka's can't write or don't know song structure. Writing is forever, you are so supposed to keeping Writing to get better. The more you do it, the better you become. What's so hard to understand about that.
I'm an old school professional MC and I have been writing lyrics as a pro for nearly forty years. My lyrics book is probably worth at least six figures as the papers are all the original papers I wrote the songs on and I've had quite a few hits over the decades. I hate seeing artists use their phones to write songs as they are missing out on passing something on to their children. Publishers steal most artists rights so the one thing that we do have is the original paper we wrote our songs on, especially if the papers are dated and signed. I even put the location of where I wrote one of my hits as it was the one and only time I was working and performing in Bermuda. Jay Z fooled a lot of people with that never writing on paper. Fooled them out of leaving their children a legacy. What I've explained here still goes over the heads of those who keep up with current trends including a lot of the artists who I produce. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
Wayne is the reason
By the way my old MC pardy used to do his lyrics in his head mostly but even he used paper for certain promps and not everyone does the head top thing as good as he could. He was an expert at making lyrics on the spot. That worked well live but in the studio he had to have paper as we were recording to tape and our producers were very miserable. More than three drop ins and we were in for verbal abuse from the producer. We had to do our homework before going to the studio. Rest in peace to a legend of the music business on this side of the Atlantic.
well said now this is business and legacy talk, appreciated as I'm in the process of creating a catalog, and even if they punch in its good capture the lyrics on paper and date for that copyright and pub
@@PierreWhite-d9y Look at it this way, think about how much the papers that Beethoven used to write his symphonies are worth right now. Why wouldn't our papers be worth something too if we can create popular songs? Our original handwriting can be worth millions in the future if we write successful things and we keep the original paper. My lyrics book is for my children or my children's children.
@@youngSlimeyMFkka Wayne vs Papa San or Professor Nuts, lyrics for lyrics song for song. Twelve rounds and Wayne doesn't make it to round three, lol.
Jay can get away with not writing because he was already rapping for 10+ years before his solo album. He can write in his head. These songs is rap that ain't going nowhere. The songs have no concepts and no direction. Just rap to get to a hook.
I still write , and record with written lyrics. Whether it’s is on paper or on a phone. But, I have been punching in as well I feel like both methods are effective in my opinion
At the end of the day, as an artist, do what u want, don't get discouraged if you can't punch in lyrics like others, just write em down, no big deal
I do both and I love the process of both free styling / punching in and writing , sometimes I’ll mix each style in with the other on the same song. I find I can get emotions and new tones out better punching in when I’m not thinking so hard . but on the other hand I get better lyrics , smoother deliveries , and more organized flows writing. There’s something to be said about using heavy autotune as well , I barely ever write songs with that style it’s easier for me to just free flow and let your energy take over and use your ears to find what works and what doesn’t
This is always a great topic in hip hop & its dope to see different methods employed that FIT certain artists creative flow. Since ima songwriter that raps,i have to WRITE everything,im over 10,000+ songs in my journey 😂😂 but i record in bulk since i have my own studio. Problem is a lot of people punching in don't have cohesive content that often, leading to extremely low quality, basically McDonald's music. I work fast and still cook up soul food cause of my meticulous detail & CARE for the art!
My process became a mix off punching and jotting down my lyrics. Like if im out somewhere and i think of a line i’ll write it down. And if it fits what im putting together i’ll put it in there. Punching in also helps brainstorm as well. I’ll write some of the lines down after and rearrange when needed. No limits when using all the tools
@@imBlizRicks crazy how a lot of older folk overlook how punching in can lead to more polished takes. A lot of rnb singers (notably Billie illish) utilize this method called “comping”
@ That’s more of doing multiple takes & picking the best sounding ones and turning it into a main vocal lol but ultimately they achieve the same goal. Still an effective tool people can take advantage of if they’re perfectionists
@@imBlizRicks yessir
I do both depending on the mood im in sometimes i hear a beat and go crazy pull up my notes and write a hook and verse off rip or sometimes i play the beat and punch in and it sounds fire both can work for me it always just depends on the mood my punch ins sound just as good as my writtens so you cant hate either way
Something I've found out while punching in is breathe control isn't considered. I've done verses bar per bar, sounded good but I wouldn't have been able to perform it without dropping certain words due to having to take a breath. As for not writing, it's cool and creative but personally writing is far superior in my opinion. There's something about seeing the words and being able to add more rhyming words, inner rhymes, ect ect. Also while writing there's a longer period to expand vocabulary. If you're basically freestyling you most likely aren't using new unique words not used in daily speech.
Like Just said, some aren’t as capable as the greats. To me this is why the majority of mainstream isn’t as good as it used to be. There was definitely a standard and it’s been thrown out the window. It’s not only because of them relating to their favorite artists though. It’s much deeper than that, it’s education too and other things bigger than a YT comment. Side note…99% of actors are doing lines from a written script which gets rewrites. They have to call upon emotions etc in the moment. There’s fundamental and even psychological reasons why it is often better to write things down.
love the new contect broo
PLEASE HELP ME. Whenever I use blue yeti through mobile it sounds doubled when I monitor. why is this happening?
Them black dreads tough 💯💯
The reason that I see being ignored is poor education. Some are not writing because they can’t. For example ppl used to be impressed with R Kelly’s studio technique of punching in until later we found out he was illiterate. Unfortunately low literacy levels in inner city public schools are at disturbing levels and a lot of rappers come from these communities. Also the reason record labels love signing young black artists. They know they don’t understand contract language or understand how the business works. So sometimes artists don’t punch in just to be creative, they punch out of necessity. 💯
“I’m not a biter I’m a writer for myself and others”
Somebody rhyme sound like puch in Take it from the top of the verse and flow with it. You could tell by the sound when it's been punched
Pinching in is better than, it's just the equivalent of writing but without a pen,it doesn't make you less of a lyricist.
it lessen's the quality of the verse. when u write it down on ur phone, ur worried more ab what you say than how it sounds. writing it on real paper in pen specifically, will make u choose even better lines bc u know u cant undo or erase pen.
Yea because I watched your how to find your sound video and went on traktrain and found beats similar to ones I have rapped on in the past and I feel like I found my sound through that just have get to a studio and promo those songs I have been freestyling
No wonder music is terrible today
@@vektacular theyre mentally writing…
@ yeah…I shouldn’t judge probably …personally I’ve never tried it so I probably should try it first…you’re right.
I mean punching in & writing is the same thing basically 😂😂
It’s really not. The only thing they share is recording a song.
@ i should say identical
Pen and paper for me
We still write
I hate how guru said jay z one taked his god did verse and was all this hype but i can hear tons of punches
It makes sense why the subject matter is messed up in rap it’s not wrote down so it’s going to sound sh*tty and sound like everybody else. That’s why AI music is going to take all this over
I started just freestyling recently
Wayne definitely got the generation punching in 😂
look at the vocal chain 😂
Warning: Old Guy Talking. I think I've said it hear before I got my first job in a studio back in the 70's, and one of the sessions I assisted on was an album for Bill Cosby called.... Billy Cosby Sings. So first few days in the studio Cosby's music man Stu Gardner brought in a band to record the tracks for the album. Some great young musician laying down so tight grooves. The next session we move to the smaller room because Bill Cosby is going to come in to do his first days of "singing". So were all set Stu Garner and the main engineer and myself and were waiting for Cosby to show up. Cosby shows up in his tennis clothes and a racket and says he can't stay too long he is going to meet some to play tennis in a hour. So I'm thinking he is going sing lyrics he's made up already. No Cosby asks Stu Gardner what's this tune about, and Gardner said we'll play some of it for you and I think it has at sound like a train coming down the tracks. So we playing the track Cosby listens and okay we ready and engineer says yes. Cosby goes into the studio we get a quick level on him and then he says let go. We run the track and Cosby in this half singing, half rapping voice is spitting out the funniest stuff about some crazy sh17 going on inside a train. In the control room we are laughing our asses off and when track was done Cosby calmly says that work? Gardner says sounds great why don't you listen for yourself. Cosby come back in and we play it for him and he let me do one more, but save that one. Cosby does another and that was that we had the first tune done. We then put on the next track and start the process again. I was blown away like the rappers in your videos nothing was written down, Cosby basically listen to the track for the first time and just went out and made up his lyric/rap/comedy on the spot. Just like your rapper all in the moment except we were on tape so no punchin's Cosby did all the tunes on the album in one or two takes each. Rap was still years away so in some way Cosby was one of the first rappers.
Some people are more head top writers than paper writers. I do practically the same thing but I write the lyrics down. Doesn't take me long and I've been doing those type of sessions for decades. I actually don't work at the speed I really can because I get paid well so I have to make it look a little bit hard, lol. Features, television advertisements where it's not a full four minutes vocal can be done in and out within ten to fifteen minutes with at least three vocal parts. What I love is production can be done just as fast too. The last advert I did the producer girl did the beat around my vocals while in the Uber so when she reached the studio she had done it already. I was impressed by that as I had only voiced the vocal twenty minutes before she arrived.
🔥💯
They both definitely help eatch other
These rappers be all cap😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I do both it just depend
Punching in is just a different form of writing the old heads hate
These punching in dudes are terrible lol .. jay z wayne and juicewrld are the exception to the rule
I mean... why not both?
Love the videos fam.. but on a serious note.. I be using BandLab to make music and on my phone .. but anyways I’m wooing a song rn and would love to hear your feedback on it and what I could change or anything .. I know what u said bout telling people no on helping them to mix but I think you could do something real good with my music.. lmk please 🙏🏾 showing love outta CA 805🔥🔥
Also cuz I’m not the best at mixing San stuff so it would be real helpful to get groans tips on what I should do to make my music sound better
Email it to me
Punching in is better it helps you to get the melody and tone correct. But if you’re able to do one take that’s real talent.
Bandlab documentary 😂😂
They need to make people pay for it and it’ll fix that lol
I do both, sometimes all in the same song.. I've heard written trash and punched in trash.. to be honest half of these fools cant write they name on a piece of paper 😂.. So i get it... Just make good music
Jay Z started the trend but Wayne changed the game with it. Better and for worse. I wouldn’t have to write either if I said the sh!t lil Uzi or 21 Savage says.
Im sorry. I am a creative writer, journalist, songwriter. U said u can write something down, and not know how to say it, cuz ur not in that moment, or vibe. I'm paraphrasing. Ppl who write songs do not have that problem. We remember how to spit our verses.
Well, from what I've heard... Most need to start writting again. Maybe re-learn english too lol
These new dudes not writing don't have lyrical ability lol the shit sounding weak. My writing process is me writing in my phone recording the flow and Cadence. These dudes are not writing, making throw away music we won't remember the song a year from now
I don't find that impressive... Beethoven wrote music deaf...he would put wires to his teeth and feel the vibration to tell how it would sound.
Bruuuuh... As long as the song comes out great that's all that matters
I don't see Jay Z as a freestyler. Seems he probably writes it, remembers it then goes in the booth to spit it.
Crazy how you put your opinion over what a person says lol jay z said it out his own mouth and there’s plenty of hov stories of him not writing
@alextumayisaclone Yes, there's plenty of stories but we ain't seen nothing. I ain't never seen Dr Dre make a beat but he's one of the biggest producers right
@@CatDaddyMane You do realize that you’re literally projecting? Just cause you can’t do it as well as Jay z nor have seen it done personally you do not think it’s possible. Even after the man says he doesn’t write.
Jay Z said himself he used to write raps but taught himself to remember the whole song which lead to him being able to mentally write it then remember it and put it on wax
Why do I feel like Jay was cappin a lil bit??
No he wasn’t cappin’ Jay never had adlibs until recently, all his verses was one take and just one track
This is why most newer artists today got horrible, choppy flows. That KILLS a song for me personally. I can listen to subpar lyrics with a nice flow, that shits an art and an integral part of hiphop.
Obviously i know theres exceptions, so no need to blast me lol
lol I try to keep my comment section for open healthy conversation and opinions and keeep the toxicity away.
I like seeing peoples opinions it’s great
@SKYJORDXN for sure man, healthy discussion don't do nothing but good for the game!!
Your channel definitely provides that. This video just made me go pick up a pen, and if it makes someone else go punch in...that's a win. It's all love!!
I think of the entire verse in my head and record it at once . My brother gave me some beats and I wrote 13 songs and hooks in my head and recorded them all in less than 2 hours .
🍻🍻🤝🍻👍🍻🤩🍻🥳🍻👍🍻🤝🍻🍻
Punch is horrible sounding if you don't keep the same vocal level, Big X the plug is horrible at it, good music ruined by uneven vocals, writing gave consistency vocally, but hey, I don't think the younger generation cares🤷 nor do they understand or hear it sooo...just a old hater I guess 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It feels like the engineers are working 3 times harder than most of the artist today. To put the “source on it”. Jay z didn’t say he never wrote. Lil Wayne didn’t say he never wrote. Lyricism has suffered the most from people not crafting anymore. Or at least taking the time to learn how to construct a songs
Jay z said he doesn’t write and Wayne said he doesn’t write lol it’s documented in the video
Wayne literally said he stopped writing lol
@ go rewatch the video buddy. Lil wayne said he STOPPED writing when he found out that jay z doesn’t write. If you research jay z. He explains his process and why his lifestyle changed his approach to writing.
I’d have to work on recording to tape to be able to give a full opinion but punching in recording to tape would be a nightmare in 2025 based on the stories I heard from ppl who learned on 100% analog and moved to the hybrid setups
