- Oddworld Lore: Gloktigi is a video about Oddworld lore by pupbenny that takes a closer look at Gloktigi the supernatural creatures and Glukkon relatives of the Octigi family that are summone by the Glukkons and Oktigi to do their bidding from Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.
Oddworld was created by Lorne Lanning who founded Oddworld Inhabitants which has produced many games, Including Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Oddworld: Soulstorm. I find the Oddworld lore fascination and hope to bring the Oddworld universe to life by telling the story of it and it's characters, creatures and locations so that they can be explained and theorised about by delving into Oddworld theory and the lore of the universe of the Oddworld games!

The Gloktigi are certainly one of the most fascinating creatures on Oddworld, what with how they they provide us with a subtle glimpse of the occultism of the Glukkons and the Magog Cartel. And fighting them is one of the funnest and most unexpected parts of the game. :)

Howdy I'm a long time fan I've seen you talk about strangers wrath but you've never done one specifically on stranger you've done the second game but I've not seen the video specifically focusing on stranger I have a great appreciation for his character especially the odd world series and how he adds a different flavor to it would you by chance consider doing the full video on stranger please
Are you familiar with the game "fear and hunger"?
If no, in that game, there is an ability, called "show love" on an altair of godess of love, which makes 2 of your characters have sexual intercourse, and if you have good affinity with her, the 2 bodies that did this act will merge into a singular person, called "Marriage" and then youll get more strength and such.
Im saying this, cause as you were talking about the occult, and how Gloktigi are made from the gloctigi and glukkons, i thought of this, because in Fear and Hunger 2 Termina, there are some government made marriages that turned into super-soldiers, or a whole tank made up of these marriages of flesh
You know I just thought just now that the leather on them is probably a reference to the ladies from return to Castle Wolfenstein

If you search up on the "Bohemian Grove" you can learn about a(n alleged) real world example of elite occultism.
It says a lot about Sekto that he has the same security as Glukkon Queen like he’s probably the most powerful industrialist in the series that we’ve seen because of this.
Especially considering how much earlier this game is compared to to the mainline odd world games. If oddworld has inflation, then the Glocktigi is much more impressive
The Glocktigi are likely the "investors" That Molluck and other glucks reference in Soulstorm.
Considering how much of an influence he has in Western Mudos due to owning the dam and what not, this is very much likely the case.
I wonder if he’s secretly the father of all glukkons cuz someone has to be the drone male who’s role is to breed the queen.
@@Barakon I wouldn’t say so, mostly because the Glukkon’s (and by extension the Sligs and Mudokons) have an Ant and Bee style of reproduction which boils down to no dads, as the mom constantly craps out eggs.
Besides Octigi are a different species, a fusion could only exist through mad science like the Glocktigi

I think the idea of Octigi magic is something the games haven't explored nearly enough. The industrial races figuring out their own mystical forces, perhaps satanic or lovecraftian in theming, to use against that of the mudokons. I could see a good plot come out of that.
I got the feeling in Soulstorm that nobody believed Abe had any shaman powers. They seemed to laugh it off like how they laughed off the idea that moudokons are smart enough to want to be free. It's weird to think that Gluckons have their own mystical powers, but refuse to believe anything else does
To be fair, it could be a case of how far removed Glukkons are from the rest of reality.
They are at the top of society, and they got there somehow, so why believe that one of their advantages could be used by anyone else?
I think the Glukkons are aware of mudokons being spiritual, and of the existence of mudokon shamans but their disbelief is in the fact that Abe can be one. He was a former slave so his random ability to be an effective shaman without proper training, knowledge, or known spiritual connection would be something curious to the Glukkons
Something I don't get.
In Soulstorm, they reference mudokons "talking to union reps" and causing "PR nightmares".
Are these meant to just be jokes, or are there actual Mudokon unions? Is the reason why they retconned the Mudokon Pop designs more abstract was because the consumer species of Oddworld would be put off by eating the head of a sentient being? The Glukkon proaganda papers even try to portray the relationship between Glukkons and Mudokons as an (obviously biased and one-sided) friendship.
I guess I'm just wondering what the bigger story is.
@@popularvote3613I feel like this can be answered easily, the Tape with the Soulstorm brew presentation is supposed to be really old, so it’s probably when Mudokon workers were commonly making complaints about their jobs and ruining Glukkon businesses, so after Brew was invented any hope of help for the slave muds is gone considering they can’t really leave their factories and report their issues.
@@smashers6971 Its also possible that only the top of glukkon society knows about the enslavement of mudokons. Its possible that the rest of the world just thinks their "poorly paid" workers. The soulstorm brew quashed those rumors of enslavement. Its also possible the Union reps were glukkons and other sentient species who were concerned with mudokons wellbeing. We only see the industrial factories far aware from cities. Similar to real life we don't see the factories and the slave mines that mine our cobalt, lithium, and cocoa.
You know, always found this to be fascinating. The fact that the glukins have such a massive verity of subspecies. While you truly don't see that in any of the other races. And to be honest i think the reason behind this is well. The same reason why the Modokins were a race of well to put it racial supremacist. While the glukins would explore every outlook to grow in power. From science, magic to even breeding unique offspring. The Modokins believed their race was the Master Race. due to the paw print on the moon. Thus one could argue they wouldn't really allow Mutations to exist in their "perfect" race.

@JosephQuicke-rz8kw Before their enslavement and mass subjugation, the mudokons saw the sign on the moon as proof that they were the chosen race of Mudos. The got rather haughty about this, which us was led to the jealous Glukons plotting and succeeding in enslaving them.
Pub Benny I urge you to keep doing content on oddworld I promise you that you are probably the sole survivor that's keeping this franchise still up-to-date. I have gotten multiple of my friends into odd world because of you and I hope that you continue to produce more content on oddworld and if not create content on oddworld. 1) a clash between a Glocktigi and a Scrab would be pretty interesting (to say the least)
2) the fact that Sekto, an Octigi, got the same personal guards as queen Maggie says a lot about who's really in charge in Oddworld planet during the various games.
3) the fact that the Glocktigi are made using "esoteric" practices could be a nod to the "alchemy era" that Oddworld's industrialists species went thought, probably the era in which queen Maggie's grandmother (whom i named Victoria) created the Magog cartel and submit Oddworld, before been hibernated. Likely after her hibernation the Oktigi took over (probably she either spawn or create them through alchemy) to rule Oddworld in her absence due to her being infected by the Gornan Dessentia.
I honestly don’t think a Scrab would stand a chance against a Glocktigi due to the creation of the Glocktigi being rooted in the occult thus allowing them to have some supernatural abilities, as well as the webs they can trap others in and then proceed to skewer with their legs.
@@mr.j3rs3yI do agree, the Glocktigi were created using unnatural means, so nothing natural can defeat them, only something or something supernatural (like Abe or the Stranger) can defeat them.

Another interpretation of the horns could be that they grow in over time, meaning the bodyguards are older veterans while the Gloktigi encountered earlier are younger possibly adolescent members of their species.

its honestly a nice touch having the bosses and their assistants having the same bodytype gluckons and sligs both have big arms and small withered legs, the vikers and the interns being from the same family and just a simplified version of eachother
Im surprised that you didn't mention the Hellraiser reference. They are demonic squid beasts, of course the are going to be covered in leather and have knives stuck into them. All they need is a magic puzzle box and their set.
It’s worth noting that the heads of the Gloktigi are also similar to Cthulhu while the Sekto logo/seal looks very Lovecraftian in design; lending to their squid/octopus theme.

When looking at the Brewmaster’s redesign in SoulStorm, it appears to be based on Heinrich Himmler (yes THAT Himmler) who was known to have been obsessed with the occult; adding to the whole theme.

Oh, I remember these spindly little... I hated them with a passion. Especially in the end fight against Sekto, where you fight two at once
My guess with the horns that they are shown with, outside of the game logic of this is the final form of the enemy you’re fighting, would most likely have to do with the occult magic used in their development and evolution. If that business deal bit is taken as seriously and not a joke, you can easily say they’re making deals with whatever higher power they commune with to create them.
Actually having just watched your queen lore video again I wonder if these investors might be a dark power they commune with.
Hmm what if the standard gloktigi you see abd fight are just younger then armoured gloktigi? If we're sticking to occult themes then maybe armoured glomtigi are like shamans or elders? The older they get the more spikes they get but the weaker the muscles and bones get so they replace it with cybernetics and other replacements? If I remember right sekto has been around for a while so maybe his two personal guards are just two of the older ones that actually survived the last attack on him proving not only themselves but their species so he "healed" them and decided to add more to the ranks?
I think the Gloktigi also draw from contemporary depictions of ninja in western media or assassins. The 'tacticool' throwing knives for the regular ones and curved dao-like swords on the armoured variant, the elements of their clothing having lots of leather. Lots of 90s + early 2000s hollywood ideas of 'the badass femme-fatale assassin clad in leather - using lots of cool swords'-looks about them.
The Gloktigi's use of supernatural abilities may also tie into those design choices. Less so the usual industrial species vibe of exploitative moneymakers or brutish militarists like the Wolvarks. And more 'shadowy, sinister elite warriors with knowledge of ancient arts'.
Gloktigi are so fascinating. I think the way they are presented, without a huge amount of detail on their origins, really adds to their mystery.
Do you think those metal pipes on the armored one’s back are quite possibly the handles for sheathed dual swords? Itd keep the theme of the knives of the unarmored ones and show a “progression”
the business deal i see as a sort of handshake at the crossroads type ritual. a deal is struck and a gloktigi is manifested into existence
on the ancient bussiness deal that's also apart of occultism often times you need to make deals with forces in question and be very specific in what you offer and etiquette so yeah that works perfect

Glocktigi seem like they’re mainly used as enforcers and bodyguards for their much smaller brethren. All I know is I wouldn’t wanna encounter them in a dark alley.

The Gloktigi remind me a bit of the Vykkers and their relationship with the Interns or the Glukkons and Sligs, acting as hired muscle for their corporate masters. They even have their own ranks and outfits seemingly, a bit like the various variants of Slig? Something that will hopefully be expanded upon in future games, I wonder if more Octigi and Gloktigi will be shown? They seem like they'd be fun to possess with Abe, though maybe being Occult enemies they're immune to that?

I always imagined the Gloktigi were failed Glukkons that the Vykkers were given to experiment on…but now I can add super natural experiments to that as well.
Mating or "Making a deal" by cephalopods requires a handshake of the mating-arms by the pair, to trade genetic msterial: that might mean Glocktigi are females, Gluckons are males and their water-nymphs are there.

I interpret the Armored Gloktigi's "metal backpacks with pipes" as sheathed machetes or kukris. As the normal Gloktigi have a set of knives strapped to their back and throwing darts around their forearms, it would make sense for their superior variants to continue and upgrade the visual motif.
i think i know what you mean about the cool factor of using mystical rituals as parts of business deals. its two very disparate aesthetics coming together in a novel way which i think adds to the intended "wrongness of it all". i think you could fairly say that capitalism is the glukkon religion so its cool to see this idea called back to with how glukkons are willing to pervert spirituality in the name of profit. unless for glukkon, profit IS spirituality? and making gloktigi is seen as doing a sort of holy business?
I think it would be interesting if the octigi race was innately connected to advancement and greed, as though it was their nature, and as such they still had access to their magic because despite being industrialists everything is still well within the root of their nature as beings, so they would fill a universal role as a negative to balance out positives.
