HONESTLY there are many ways to find friends in Second Life! Just gotta find the Destination guide and look around.
In SL I always enjoy visiting old abandoned places and just walking around. Very strange feeling.

Liminal
A lot of places don't want everyone on mic because it becomes very noisy and chaotic very quickly. Voice chat is really better in smaller groups where you won't be constantly talking over each other. Also voice is location specific, so people who are not near you won't be able to hear you anyway and your voice gets quieter the further someone is from you. Local text chat, however, will generally be heard by anyone nearby. Although that also has a distance limit it generally reaches anyone who is close enough that you would be trying to talk to them anyway. Also, on RP sims 99.9% are done entirely in text.
Obscure, you're often speaking into the wind, because nobody is within range when you speak. You have to get near the people for them to hear you on voice. Also text chat is 20 meters range, or it's not seen. I'm glad you met some nice people this time, instead of the typical 60 year old mod hags who condemn voice, jokes, sharing links, being human, etc.
You were also going to dead sims, low traffic sims. The way to find the fun stuff is to go to the crowded ones. :V ( Traffic numbers listed in the search function. On Firestorm viewer. Don't know about the lame default viewer)
hey! i have around 14 years in sl and you are true about some things. when people see a new account they think is a troll, instantly, thats why is really hard they will use voice at the first contact. but i can tell you, there's nice and friendly people. nice video!
You should visit some of the nature destinations…some beautiful worlds have been created. Though people may not voice as they are probably there to enjoy the ambience.
Definitely will -- I think for my next SL video I'm going to connect with a longtime community member/youtuber on here who knows the platform better than me to tour some of the more hard to find and next level worlds and events. Excited to see where it goes~

I would rather visit real places on UA-cam videos than second life.
Was fun to watch ..tho use destination guide if u want to see more people ...the search option might be a problem as SL world is so huge by now people just get lost in it ... So to a lot of places you will go will just be empty

You poor thing. Second life can be hard. Your best bet is to find an event of live music. SOmething about second life, It filled with lots of Roleplay universes, People generally stick to their clicks because a lot of them have played for over 10 years or 5 years and been through the rabbit hole and came out a different person. Second life can be mean unfortunately. SOme people will try to screw you over. Be careful what items you accept off other people. Your best bet would be to put in your profile that you are seeking friends and experiences. If you have any questions I am happy to help where I can. The time and days will make a huge difference on who you meet etc.
That shinobi HUD was quite smth. Certainly the kind of thing to make a new player feel special.

Making friends is easy just be social and go to right places i get new friends all the time
A friend of mine said he was invited to one of the many gay sims on SL a few years back, said they were the friendliest & busiest sims on the whole grid. Also the cleanest I’m guessing.

I will be honest, you are right about the trolling. People take second life as a joke but in reality i have met so many friends in second life. I was pretty lonely and was looking for a social interaction, i stumbled into second life and do many nice people! Yeah there are alot of older people online but that shouldn't stop you from exploring snf interacting. There is alot of sexual content BUUUT its not all about that content. Literally can find anything to do. After the trolling started so many people were just staying inside their homes and kept themselves in that privacy. But we are having people come back out of their shells and so many people came in from covid 19. Thank you for exploring our world.
Fun fact: when it first launched it was a small piece of land. Then the community expanded it and it continued from their, The company on created the platform. The community expanded it and made it what it is today!!

Not very many people voice in sl. A social platform doesnt necessarily mean socializing via voice. Study nearby chat & ask permission to DM. Once you get to know people they may feel comfortable voicing or using other apps for voice like discord. But they usually won't respond to voicing right off the bat
it really depends where you go. I know sims where literally no one uses voice (it might even be disabled on the land settings) and sims where everyone and their brother is on voice. I tend to avoid the latter because I hate VC myself
You should go to the Willows, from seven to 11pm friendliest people and great fun!!
I know a lot about Second Life. You can block people and filter everything. You need to read their articles and go to their forums to talk to others who are older members and have experience in the world. I used to run a real business on SL and I built Gothic things. I built a full Dracula inspired castle fully furnished with vampire items and none vampire items. I started out as a DJ for the Goth community and vampire community on SL. They helped me set up a free business where I used my programming skills to build everything. I loved playing the games. I used to earn money from doing odd tasks that they provided for free members to earn a little money in game. I am handicapped and don't work so I have a lot of time to waste and I earned lots of SL money from mopping and cleaning businesses and even helping others run their business. There are certain times when the world is more active for socializing too. I went to concerts for free because I was a DJ and bartender, I got paid to help set up clubs and other stuff. London was my favorite place to go. They were very nice there and I made lots of friends. They have an all day party where people can dance and chat.

I don't think people think you're a troll necessarily. It's just... You wouldn't walk up to a total stranger on the street and ask how they're doing, would you? It would be weird. It's also weird in SL.
When people socialise and have conversations, they are usually about something. Maybe a shared interest. Find something you like to do in SL, and you'll have something to talk to about with other people who like doing it.
Otherwise you'll just have the same short small talk conversation over and over.

Many people aim to maintain a particular illusion (or may have some particular reason that makes use of voice impractical) and prefer to chat using text in this world.
It is actually NOT hard to make friends if you are in the right place (preferably NOT a starter hub) and use thr right approach. Also, do use your ability to read players' profiles to give you a starting point, if they have one.

I saw you didn't go to Tabu but it is a social club-G rated that has alot of games and such. The owner is on a break right now but usually every friday is a party with DJ and such
You're using the wrong interface to search for places. Hit Ctrl-F, click the Places tab, and results will by default sort by traffic, indicated next to each location. You can, and probably should, also deselect Adult rated sites from your results. Even a search for all ratings will crowd the list with Adult sites, so you can guess where everyone's priorities are.

Is just like in real life, you dont land in NY City and make friends in 20 minutes, exactly the same, and just like NY, there are as many trolls as great people to meet, SL is like RL, all takes its own time, like RL

ive never had probs making friends in SL. might be cause i avoid the clubs and crowded places and only go to the family freindly places. as soon a i walk in i get lots of hi's hows u. i dont even chat to anyone as im to shy to start chatting but i get loads chatting to me asking how i am and if i need help to build a avi when i 1st started and ppl offering to buy me stuff to get me started. but in the newbie freindy places i get ignored. or pushed around.
ive been in SL for 4 months now and have hundreds of freinds. and they all approched me. but all the plces i find r very freindy r clothing optinal family freindly places. but have to be cautious in those places as lots of sexual undertones.
like the place i hang out the most in no sex allowed no cuddling while naked but lots go off to other places for sex. and lots of teasing but in a PG way. can be fun most of the time though and a good laugh. just have to try and ignore the sexual inuendos going on.
Makes a friend and immediately lies to her by claiming you have been studying Spanish. Why not just say you're using a translator? Why lie? Then immediately teleports out instead of engaging with your new friend.
So, would you say you're a good person to be friends with in SL? You are treating friendship like "achievement unlocked". People are not achievements. Not in the real world, and neither in virtual worlds.
If you want to make friends with people in social networks, then be real about it. Don't be insincere like this demonstrates.
People use discord just like any other gamers for voicing. In world voice is rarely used. You are gonna have to go to a popular hub or something if you want some kind of voicing in world.
Maybe type ‘voice’ and that way you will get sims that are voice hubs.
There's tons of sims doesn't have voice disabled.
60 dollars will make you fit in. Get that head, body, and hair. Or maybe become a horse like me.

you need to make a profile with likes dislikes , what your fave things are , if you have no profile most will ignore you they like to see what your about , most trolls have no profile, also u need to got to places that have a few people ther it tels you the amount of traffick ie type in clubs in the search places tab you will get a list with the amount of traffic past through
Why not customize your avatar and not too many people use voice in public places they most;y talk privately in group calls or in group chats or in DMS

Well you did kind of troll as you were not serious about making an honest and meaningful connection even if only for today so IMO you only proved why they are right to be suspicious of newcomers. Never played this BTW.
I like to make friends in SL. It seems that new people wanna do the same but the older you are in SL, the more difficult it gets to make friends. Now I'm trying an app called Thundr.
seems to depend, I made a new account two years ago to try and meet people, and was unsuccessful. Seems to be a bit of distrust on new avatars from older accounts who already have their own private social groups. After a year on that, I came back to an account I hadn't used in 15 years and still couldn't seem to meet people after another year of trying
