This is one of the very few watches Q&A that I found interesting. It's so refreshing to hear a women point of view. Please create more content about women-watch relationships and considerations.
I'm a female watch enthusiast, I got into the hobby because I'm a freaking nerd and love human ingenuity. I really got involved when I realized that I was addicted to my phone.
Omg I used to dream of building a watch collection when I was younger and then the iPhone came out. I can’t even find my eco drive or a seiko I had. I’m trying to get away from relying on the phone so I’m back into watches.
Oh god, I started obsessing with watches recently and thought it'd be weird me being a woman but I found your channel and now I am in heaven!! Yes!! Subscribed! :D
I have seen that I was talking with a friend of mine that is into watches (she is a woman) and I mention to her that women's watches were basically *plain* male watches with jewels on them: Boring. I believe that it's not as simple as a single explanation, there is also history and the fact that watches are and old industry, and in the old times it was men buting them for women that due to social norms were not into mechanical stuff. Also if this explanation was complete how do you explain women being into jewlery?
@@deant5006 Yeah, that's a peril of expresing opinion on a public forum when the person just expects people to bow their heads and applaud. It's a magnificent video, very good, but it contains a single narrative that does not explain most of the observables (but it explains many of them). it's a complex issue and the video is not "why do I like peanut butter or Rolex or Macs" but "what women ...". In fact, it's basically a short lecture.
You've crushed it out of the gate. After the fake Rolex drama and a personal horrible experience with a fake, my enthusiasm for this hobby was dampened. You're pretty much the only channel I watch now. And I fully agree about the Gucci watch. Watches are made for people, not the other way around. And who knows, maybe in the future she'll want to branch out. :) Congrats on your success, and keep up the great work!
As someone who is very critical to watch snobs who tend to claim that instead of a fashion watch, ppl should wear a dress watch or a diver, I totally agree with you. People tend to project their view of what they think is right, rather than understand the motivation or desire of what people want to buy. Who are you (watch snob) to say that a person has to buy a seiko diver when all they want a vincero watch? A Vincero watch is very different, even compared to an orient bambino to those who are into the look and design, not what are in the insides.
@@casualsuede For me it's not an issue of what brand is on the label, its an issue of quality. Buying that gucci watch is like paying Porsche money for a mid 90's kia. You're 100% paying for the fact that it says "gucci" on the watch and nothing else. It's overpriced trash. What's really sad is that at least when it comes to their clothing items, they're well made, good quality materials, good leathers, high quality stitching, etc. When it came to watches, they just slapped ronda quartz movements inside super designery cases and then started charging 1500+ dollars for it. Also, to your example, a vincero watch doesn't cost 1500 dollars. I agree with you at that price point, its just being snobbish to say they should buy a seiko, or something along those lines. Now, if the guy wanted to spend 1000 dollars, then i think its valid to go, "hey bro, i know you like that watch, but do you know what you're paying for? Are you just paying for the name? Do you want to spend 1k on something that's going to look like shit because the PVD coating wore off in a year and the movement choked up because its a $8 chinese sourced POS?" For me i'm all about education, as long as the person has all the relevant details than at the end of the day, they're adults and they can spend their money however they want. I just don't like people getting swindled.
Your comment on women's perception of watches as accessories is spot-on. My wife prefers a quartz watch with removable straps, so that she can match the strap with her shoes and bag for the day :). On the other hand, she collects shoes and bags the same way I collect watches :). We try not to get in each other's way with regard to our own collections. That way, domestic peace is maintained :)...
I've heard of it said that the average man's knowledge on handbags is equivalent to the average woman's knowledge on watches -- i.e. not too much detail, roughly know some brands and maybe some popular models.
I would love a whole video on the world of watches and women, I’ve seen so many explanation videos over time but this one is an actual explanation on why.
@@WatchUnwind I'm not sure i agree, i tried to be open minded and pulled up the ladies watch section on Gucci's website... they're pretty terrible. It's kind of like you said, they're clearly designed to be an accessory and not a tool in ANY capacity.
@@kutark in this case your just gonna have to get her something else instead !! hopefully she will wear it im sure shell appreciate it because its a gift.
I think part of your success is your personality. You come across as a very warm and genuine person, simply informing in the pleasant manner rather than imposing an opinion. So many "men watch" channels are guilty of that. Wish you well in your endeavor.
Another great video. Can I make a suggestion for a future video? I suspect you have many female friends. I would love for you to show them pictures of various watches to get their opinions. As a man, I’m always curious which watches women find the most attractive. A “real world” study would be awesome. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.
I am female and I always look at watches, worn by men and women. I will always be interested in any automatic or hand wound watch over a quartz but watches are a great conversation piece, and as Spencer Klein once said, "All watches are interesting. All watches are wonderful." Any watch that suits the wearer has to be "attractive", his/her appearance, personality, lifestyle and so on. I have collected watches for a good many years and all of them tell a story, they are more than an accessory IMHO. But then again, I only have one handbag!
That might be good for many men, but not good for the other many men that are buying watches just for themselves. Being a functionalist and manly guy (archaeologist and scuba diver/instructor, I don't work in an office. These are the environments that girls rarely work in. So I understand why girls watches are built (and marketed) differently. I like to buy a watch for the purposes that I need. I don't care how they look, or how big they are. They need to work reliably, be legible at ALL TIMES, robust enough to handle changing and challenging environs in the fly. It would be nice to afford all the watches I need for my life style, however, I cannot. I dare say women are the same. You have to make choices and compromise. That's life. Enjoyed the vid.
Yes!! To another video on this. It's something I've noticed as I've gotten more and more into watches and I think it's such a missed opportunity. I would love to hear more about your take.
99% of women say "I use my phone to tell the time" when I ask why then don´t wear a watch. Many men on the other hand said, that it's the only jewelry a man can wear.
@@JohDan6969 Very true. I try to be as nice and respectful as possible to everyone I meet or interact with. Its definately a good attitude and good manners that make a true gent :)
I also think that women are not as kind on the geeky and anoraky part of things as guys. Mouvement, pedigree, story, who did it and why... Some questions that are more guys '' problems ''. I just bought a spring drive GS and my girl friend asked me why (I preferred the style of an other watch). I started to talk about the movement, the story behind etc... She couldn't understand but said that this manner to approach things are typically me and men in general.
Among all these male watch nerds, you are the perfect alternative with a different female view and a very natural and nice style. Some men just don't get it that women may like a Gucci watch better than a Omega Speedmaster. Continue the excellent work, thanks for sharing your refreshing views!
Yes!!! Completely agree. My boyfriend is very into watches, and when I looked on various websites (Rolex, Tudor, Omega) to see what the offerings were for women, I was turned off by the dainty pastels. He got me a Bertucci field watch that I absolutely love because it's practical, waterproof, and rugged while looking elegant.
I would also add that men are more likely to be turned on by watches that pilots or divers *might* wear because it allows them to live out a fantasy. But ultimately, these are status symbols.
I love the fact that you exchanged watches for your wedding, just LOVE that!!! :-D As for collecting, I bought myself an Omega Seamaster Chronometer, 36 mm, with an electric blue dial, and bought it when Omega stopped production on that watch in 2008. I love it now as much as when the day I bought it. ;-)
Even as a watch fan, I still see watches as accessories, and they still have to compliment what I wear. For this reason, I think fashion watches get this part right, and market it well.
Yes. I love it. I switch off between it and a Tudor Pelagos. I don’t like blingy watches with diamonds for men and I don’t want to be killed over a fancy loud watch. I was at an event and talking to a billionaire businessman. He was wearing the same watch as mine. A basic Oyster Perpetual. His was a present also and had personal meaning to him.
I also thought the ending to this story was a bit anticlimactic, but then I read that you own a Tudor Pelagos and realise you're a smart man after all.
@ekim andersom haha, whimsical comment to convey the message “I’d like to meet someone like you” and you come back with your comment of “how dumb are you”. Clearly you missed the inference and therefore should maybe think before you comment
I've just recently got my wife into looking at higher end Swiss watches. She honestly loves seikos who offers a wide variety for women. I buy her what she likes. The way she started migrating to Omega and Breitling is through my my passion and actually explaining why I like what I do. Her taste is still truly different but now it's something we share and talk about when we shop or browse.
Thank you for this episode. One of my daughters is a serious outdoors person: kayaking, camping, climbing, fishing, dog sledding, even cowboying (yes, really). Now add a smaller wrist upon which a 38mm watch is a maximum size that looks good. Now help me find a very good quality watch that is a great-looking tool, that is equally elegant and functional--oh, and tough!
Thanks for this video. I must admit, I'm drawn more to the style of men's watches. I'm not a typical woman and don't really like bling (diamond, pearl's etc). I like simple, classic designs and colours. Not too busy either. Most watch makers must assume that all women like the same thing as I've not been able to find what I like in the "girls" section. I'll stick to buying men's watches I think until this changes.
I would really like to see a full video/essay about the topic of watches and women. My wife admires my watches, but it's not something that interests her. You touched on some of the reasons, and I agree, it is a very interesting topic and worth exploring more.
I’m a female who’s love watches and I think the industry is missing us, only targeting as a piece of jewelry or horrible watches fashion like MK, Kate Spade etc. I like field, pilot and divers watches. I have found on the vintage men’s watches the perfect size and budget 32 to 35 mm automatic, mechanical, self winding watches
glad you were able to find something that fits your personality Derby. Im going to be reviewing a franck muller lady vangaurd colordreams with a full factory dimond case on my channel in the near future, I already shot some video with it, I invite you to subscribe to my channel and check it out. Its a super expensive watch and not a realistic buy for 99 percent of people but its fun to look it. Even as a male id happy wear this watch it was stunning. Id like to know what you think about it
I’m not being sarcastic or rude but the Watch Industry could care less about ANY of Us.The set prices where they want and ppl line up to pay.The only time I see Watch Ads are Tennis Matches(Rolex) and James Bond Previews(Omega)Even though Bond never wore an Omega in the Books,Or a Submariner for that matter.
@@echochambers8418 Yeah I can see your point, they are a luxury item that is aimed at a certain audience so they think its better to advertise on tennis or horseback riding rather than basketball and baseball; however, there are a lot of brands under Rolex and Omega to choose from that probably care more about your average person. But for sure certain companies do not care to advertise to people and thats because they dont think they can buy their product. I also dont get to many ads from Ferrari. 100% though the watch industry is more of a male tailored industry, while in recent years it has become better with more options for female watches there are still alot of companies that dont even sell female watches.
Most "Women's watches" seem to be for old ladies, they are tiny and have no features and are boring. This is why I love wearing men's large Invicta divers in 50mm.
Other than your incredible watch knowledge, you are also very well placed to teach aspiring UA-camrs on how to be in front of a camera. It is refreshing to watch your authenticity and genuine facial expressions which I am sure are effortless and reflect your true thoughts at that time. And, you speak in a really comfortable-to-hear matter-of-fact manner. Its a pleasure listening to your videos. Thank you so much!
Unpopular opinion: I'd argue all analog watches, especially mechanicals, are more accessories than tools. Digis are faster to read, have a backlight which doesn't rely on charging, can have both a countdown and a split second chronograph, and, most importantly, they have an alarm clock. If they'd throw me out in the jungle and I could choose one watch, I'd take one of these.
Bonus points: They are way tougher, usually lighter, you don't have to spend a few grand for a perpetual calendar (and or multiple time zones), if you fill them with oil their water resistance is potentially limitless.
Agree with you. I honestly use my mechanical watch mainly as an accessory, since i believe thats the only jewelery me as personally would were. Second hand it shows time when i dont want to pick my phone out of my pocket.
they ARE accessories, but we men like to think they are tools, because the real reason we wear them is becase we like to look at them and feel cool when we wear them, In truth we don't really need mechanical watches, but we appreciate them so we buy them and wear them. This doesnt seem to happen in the case of (most) women, I think they wear watches to complement their outfits, not to "feel good" while using them as "tools", its just a part of how they look. In truth anyone can do as they please, but thats just my thoughts
@@Alias_Anybody but wouldn't a mechanical watch be way better if you were thrown in the jungle? Because they don't rely on batteries and most importantly: you can use analog watches as a compass
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on women's perception of watches. I have been trying to get my wife a nice automatic watch but she has been resistant. What you had to say makes a lot of sense and has helped me understand her perspective. Thank you 😊👍
You are so right. I don't wear watch so often because of the hassle of wearing and taking off the watch after use every day. I prefer to have my jadeite and 22k gold bracelet on both of my wrists 365 days. Another reason is watches for ladies are dainty and doesn't retain the value for me while watches for mens are big on my wrist.
Love how you explain with the girl side... honestly I like how you express yourself with your channel atlist guys would understanding our wife or girlfriend more... thank you again
I use my dive watch bezel to time things when I cook and for when i’m in my classes. 😊 It’s hard to find interesting watches for women; i’ve resulted to smaller mens watches hoping they come in 36-40mm and under 47mm lug to lug.😌
Morgan Gillette the CW Trident is on the list! Being in college resticts my budget but just picked up a great value homage sub recently and really loving it. Phoibos PY007C!
@@JenniferNguyen the CW trident (older version) was the first watch I got, and that started my collection =) I think its a great size even if its a bit tall, but I love that you get a bracelet with "on the go" ratchet adjustments in that price range. my best pal in hot weather =)
my friend's girlfriend also likes the sub too. She has a black dial one like you. Its just 2 examples, but is there a reason why women might like a black dial sub more than other types of watches?
My wife loves my watches, but finds them all too large for her. I must say, even wearing my 38mm vintage Seikos looks like she is wearing a compass/pressure gauge on her arm. She leads a very active lifestyle (squash, running, swimming) and would love a tool watch in 28mm to 32mm.
you could look at vintage women's watches, they are usually pretty small. i've seen a lot of tudors and omegas and i'm like oh that looks really nice and is oddly cheap, and then i see the case diameter and it says 26mm or something along those lines. only trouble is vintage watches may not be the best fit for an active lifestyle. i personally love casios and wear them for work / sports, they make some ladies sports watches that are pretty small. there are also vintage field watches some of which are pretty small around 34mm
@@CTcCaster Good point. We own the Marathon Navigator (fibershell) which she likes even though it is 41mm... but does not have a sapphire crystal which she prefers.
As a woman watch collector I resonate so much with what she said. Too many brands charge extremely high prices for overly dainty watches that have a quartz movement in them! Another problem is size, most good affordable automatic watches are just way too big for me, even a 38mm is too large for my wrist. Thankfully I was able to find a nice small Certina DS1 that was only 32mm with an automatic movement. Its simple, well made and well designed. If only more brands made watches for women like that, I would spend so much more on watches!
Great video. I think you're spot on regarding women's watches. I was looking to buy my wife a watch this year and she specifically wanted a high-end, high quality piece. Even then, it was hard to find many options because of how women's watches are marketed and designed. Ended up finding a 28mm Omega 300m which is great but it was a struggle finding something in her size that wasn't glitzy and jewelry-esque.
Absolutely genuine and interesting. Keep them coming. On the subject of watches for men vs. women. Women have so many creative ways to wear jewelry that watches are not a priority. For many men, jewelry feels ostentatious and a watch is the most comfortable way to show status/appreciation for finer things.
Another solid video Jenni! Couldn’t agree with most of your answers more! The advertising in women’s watches needs to change. Would love to see more ads with women’s performing sports and everyday activities instead of in ball gowns. Keep up the fantastic work, we need more women like you in this hobby! ❤️
honestly one of the best watch channels. You are a natural, good charisma and strike a good balance between informative and entertaining. happy that for you to be able to do something you like full time.
The bad guys COUNT ON this attitude, they know their targets have voted for and legislated victimhood. The bad guys KNOW their target victims cannot meet or overcome threats.
SimonTheWatchGuy Lol very good, The F-91W was the choice of Bin Laden, I also own one, Cheap priceless, ten year battery life, Practical, What else do you need....Well a new strap now and again.
So refreshing to hear a woman's perspective on watches. I think honestly you hit the nail on the head in terms of why most "proper" watches do not appeal to women and they prefer the "fashion" brand how much ever we watch enthusiasts find it cringy. I used to argue with my mother and wife, but I think now I am seeing the light and understand why fashion watches and apple watches appeal more. The watch. companies themselves are to blame for this.
One Saint Andrean to another (MLitt + PhD), THANK YOU. I have a 13,5cm wrist, and am so ‘effing fed up with my choice of complications being ‘ice’ or ‘more ice.’ Give me GMTs, flyback chronos, and dive bezels with proportion and personality, that *fit*. Don’t price me out of a design family or movement by making all/most of my options prohibitively precious. P.S., my 30th birthday present to myself was a 38,5mm Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M (two-barrel coaxial calibre 8500 under Tahitian nacre with diamond indices), and that has been my daily wear for ~4 yrs. What I love about it is that it‘s not conventionally pretty (stormy x slightly apocalyptic) and can roll straight off a summit/out of the sea into a Michelin-starred dining room, but doesn’t attract attention if I opt for the dive bar instead. After >500k km of travel/abuse, I appreciate every bit of its toughness and resilience, but would 100% swap diamonds for a GMT 🙃
Great video! As a female watch collector myself (although I only really have 1 grail), I find it frustrating at times to be so avid about an interest that almost exclusively is geared toward men. In this day and age a lot of women make more than men and have the disposable income to be advertised to. As someone in healthcare, I think it would be awesome to have a Patek, Rolex or AP female brand ambassador showing a non diamond watch being used in their daily professions. Just my 2 cents.
TAG Heuer does this to some extent. One example is some of their Syden McLaughlin ads ( track & field star) and their Naomi Osaka (tennis pro) ads. Naomi is not wearing any watches that have diamonds -- one ad has a fairly masculine aquaracer in it. Yes -- wish there was more -- of this kind of marketing -- but some companies do break the mold a bit.
I really like how you address the question of how women think differently to watches. I have had that thought all the time but never actually asked the question, now you have answered it for me!
I’m so happy to have stumbled onto this video! I think your observation how we women are marketed watches is spot on! I would welcome more videos from a woman’s perspective and our role in the fine timepiece market.
You made me laugh! You said your Datejust was "timeless". I never want my watches to be "timeless", rather I prefer them to be quite "timey". Yes? (I know you were referring to the style, but it sounded so funny)
I’m thoroughly disgusted with the watch industry. I have 2 Rolex Datejusts, but Rolex doesn’t offer much else for women. Basically, all brands ignore my needs. I want the same options that are offered to men scaled down to my wrist size. I find it insulting when a brand thinks that because I’m female, I’m only drawn to quartz movements, bling, hearts, angels and other nonsense. I’m not 10 years old and I desire a real watch.
As a woman I like men's watches because they are the same size as bracelets I own and also I'm larger than most and find the ladies watches too skinny. And on a more practical note. I see the dial/hands better :) Simples!
Great choices! I love the wedding watches idea. My wife and I have been married for 34 years. She gave me a Seiko Turtle SRPA21 for my birthday in 2018. I wear it every day and always think of her when I look at it.
My birthday is tomorrow and I know that my wife has bought me a Seiko Samurai The Great White Shark edition. I have white dials, red, green, champagne and black. I never liked the blue dial thing, however, I mentioned to her that the Seiko looks lovely. I just know this will be one of my favourite watches.
A friend of mine stores watches whilst travelling in his socks. You already have them with you, they don't look expensive to be robbed from the outside and they offer unprecedented protection really, as you can put one part through the bracelet so it won't scratch the caseback. Then second one around it, you end up with this cute little 'ball'...
Your articulate answer in regards to women and Watches is so incredibly spot on. Many of my fellow UA-cam watch gurus just don’t get this. They even get frustrated that their wife or girlfriend doesn’t see what they see. Well of course not! I am forwarding this video to all of them.
I'm going to go on record and say men don't use their watches as tools most of the time, either. There is NO WAY there are as many male divers out there as is suggested by the sale of dive watches (and even most divers use dive computers in lieu of an actual dive watch). Similarly, there are not as many race car drivers and/or astronauts as chrono sales suggest. Most actual soldiers I know are G-Shock and Timex guys... the mechanical field watch is not their go-to. In short, the marketing to men attempts to sell the idea that if you want to FEEL like a diver, racer, astronaut, soldier or similarly romanticized adventurer... wear THIS. The ratio of users to pretenders in the male watch space is incredibly lopsided. Agreed, marketing to women is "watch as accessory"... but I'm not sure how different that is that the adverts to males. For women, it's accessory to glamour and to men it's accessory to masculine pursuit. At least women, to paraphrase your comment, are hesitant to justify spending an exaggerated amount of money on something they're not going to use, whereas some guy ponies up $9000 for a Submariner he'll, at best, use in a swimming pool... where a $20 Casio would work just as well. He bought the Rolex on the MARKETED idea that he COULD use it to explore the depths. But "Desk Diving" is a common phrase in the watch community for a reason.
Actually, chronographs were used not by race car drivers but their team and race organizers. When you’re driving at high speeds you don’t have time to start/stop your chrono to track your lap times and speed ;)
@Dave Mendoza Your uncivil intro aside, you basically restated what I said with the lines, "us men are not all divers, we are not astronauts, we are not race-car drivers and so on, but we are men, WE LIKE TO FEEL LIKE WE ARE ALL THESE THINGS" and "it's all about our perspective of watches and what we get them for". FWIW, I have many watches in all of the categories I mentioned. I'm just realistic about why I own them. Ironically, when I DO go out for a bit of adventuring on a mountain bike, kayak, etc., it's my G-Shock, and not my Tudor or Omega, on my wrist.
@@UGA.D even in the past, they were sold to regular guys. It may have been originally created for professional use at race tracks, but it was a useful complication that could benefit many. Just like you don’t have to be a professional photographer or designer to enjoy the benefits of a powerful MacBook Pro. That said, watches are indeed marketed to stroke our inner adventurer and tough guy ego’s. Even if on the outside we’re boring and weak office jerks :)
@@dstfno They were also sold at prices that people could more readily afford. The original $150 price of a Rolex Submariner in 1957, adjusted for inflation, is $1380 as of February 2020. Yet the retail of the cheaper no-date Sub is currently $7900. It's now a status symbol more than a tool. In the event you ARE a diver, a $250 SKX is as capable a diver as a $9K Rolex. Sure, it may only go to 200m vs. the Sub's 300m, but it doesn't matter... YOU'RE not going down 200m, so the excess specs are just that.
Very refreshing to hear the answer about women and their approach to watches. I think women have it right about watches. They are mostly accessories, and we wear the mostly for aesthetic reasons. But men seem to need the functional aspect to feel good about wearing a watch. Interestingly, the Gucci watch is likely a quartz, which means it's more accurate and maintenance free than most mechanicals.
...the best part of this was listening to your take on women and watches...rather than just another product review, this was personal...and much more interesting for that...please, would love to hear more...
My 3 watch collection: Omega Speedmaster (have the blue ‘57), Tudor BB58, and Patek Calatrava 5196. Of course I still need to get the tudor and patek 😅
George Yang a nice vintage Calatrava or a Vacheron Chronograph would also be an alternative upgrade. I’ve seen some gorgeous calatravas going for good prices recently upwards of 7k and some gorgeous early 2000’s VC’s upwards of 10
I agree with you on women's watches and how they use them. My wife is a health care provider and wanted a reliable, easy to see and accurate watch for work. She wears an Omega Seamaster 31mm in stainless with a silver dial. Loves it, wears it everywhere.
So true about women in this hobby. I know one woman with a Rolex. Otherwise none of my female friends are interested in watches at all, beyond an Apple Watch or a garmin. I instantly subbed because it’s so wonderful to see an enthusiast that I relate to!
It's so weird how I've been watching you for the past 6 months easily and only today noticed that I wasn't subscribed. You truly deserve all the support.
This is still so true even today. I started looking for a watch to buy my wife for Christmas last night and it was quite difficult to find anything that wasn't either super feminine and petite or just boring. Watch makers really need to up their game if they want to attract more women into the hobby.
I'm a woman watch collector and was raised in this hobby by my parents who are collectors, so I learned some "tricks" over the years. Everything being said here is absolutely true and it's horrendous that the market still seems clueless as to what real women are like. I, personally, completely avoid even looking at newer ladies watches... in addition, now all the watches being marketed are either 40+mm men's or some tiny 24mm ladies', neither of which works on a smaller woman's wrist, with nothing in between. So my best trick is to go vintage. Most mid-century men's watches hit that sweet spot in size that works for everyone. It was a time when men's watches were often a bit more "feminine" or at least variable and easier to wear for different occasions, as it was a time when simplicity was emphasized. And if you really respect the history and legacy of a beautiful timepiece, vintage is often very rewarding anyway. The only thing worse than the marketing towards imaginary women by major watchmakers today (which de facto excludes many women from becoming true collectors) is when the male-dominated community shuns women and spreads stereotypes about us just being too ignorant and interested in frilly nonsense to feel welcome and motivated to dive into the world of collecting. These are definitely things that need to be considered all around and kudos to Jenni for highlighting some of these points! Grüße aus Wien!
"Ignorant and frilly nonsense" they accuse women.. but yet the first wristwatch was worn by a woman because men just have to have some fancy pocket watch. Thank you so much for the tip about the midcentury vintage watches!
Literally Rolex' first universally known commercial was a woman swimming across the English channel with an Oyster case watch. Something a Rolex fan ought to know. And I'm very much not a Rolex fan. Mein Darwin im Himmel. That said, the comment on sadsack watch designs for ladies is spot on. It's bloody pathetic. Not to mention vapid and sexist. I like Nomos. They market the product. Consider the complete lack of gender mentions on that site. :)
Nomos does it well because I have seen ads with both males and females wearing their product. Some Brands dont mention gender but its pretty transparent that all of their watches are made for males.
I love when I spot a lady rocking a Rose Daytona 116505 with a black dial 😍 some may argue that the case is too big for a smaller wrist but I personally love the contrast.
Very very good perspective about why less women are into watches. This is why ur channel is great. Genuine female watch lover here to communicate and bridge the gap.
i always found it kind of annoying how women's watches all looked the same and i personally know i don't like dainty looking watches so it was very underwhelming looking in the women's section and seeing the same thing in different colors
Jenni’s best video by far.... very insightful and useful understanding of the difference between the female and male consumer ....you build a one -hour B-school module around thus discussion
My wife once took my chronograph and when I was suprised if she is going to wear a men watch, she said that most of the things shouldn't be splitted into genders. Why she as a medic could not wear chronograph with a pulsometer scale? Watches for us are more like beautiful tools than just a jewellery.
I really enjoyed this Q and A. I recently put a Seiko Monster Diver up for sale and it was a lady who bought it for herself. She was quite petit and the watch was massive on her wrist but she didn't care. She was thrilled with it. There are also a couple of women in a watch group I belong to that wear men's watches as well. It's great to see more getting involved in the hobby. That Datejust is stunning BTW
I LOVE your analysis of women and watches! When I looked for a new watch, with automatic movement, I saw very quickly that ladies watches are generally boring. So I looked at men's watches and discovered that they are generally too big. Personally, I feel manufacturers should simply make watches, clearly indicating the size (preferably with a decent filter on the website not only for case diameter but also lug-to-lug distance). Looking at some of Invicta's models there seem to me men around who want to wear rhinestones (or diamonds), whereas I prefer diver's and field/pilot's watches. If I can find them small enough... (currently I am perfectly happy with my Invicta Pro Diver Lady in 36 mm - perfect size for me).

And a hottie female watch enthusiast at that!
Omg I used to dream of building a watch collection when I was younger and then the iPhone came out. I can’t even find my eco drive or a seiko I had. I’m trying to get away from relying on the phone so I’m back into watches.
I have liked watches since I was a little girl.

What kind of watches do you wear ? I always found it graceful on a woman

Best explanation of why women aren’t quite as involved in the ‘watch world’ I’ve come across
5:00 the watch is wearing HER
I have seen that I was talking with a friend of mine that is into watches (she is a woman) and I mention to her that women's watches were basically *plain* male watches with jewels on them: Boring. I believe that it's not as simple as a single explanation, there is also history and the fact that watches are and old industry, and in the old times it was men buting them for women that due to social norms were not into mechanical stuff. Also if this explanation was complete how do you explain women being into jewlery?
wouldn’t it be nice to give a complimentary comment on a video without being asked to defend it like some sort of dissertation
@@jaimeduncan6167 its not a lecture its a viewpoint
So refreshing to hear a woman's authoritative perspective which is so absent from this global industry. Thanks Jenni Elle.
Do you want to spend 1k on something that's going to look like shit because the PVD coating wore off in a year and the movement choked up because its a $8 chinese sourced POS?"
For me i'm all about education, as long as the person has all the relevant details than at the end of the day, they're adults and they can spend their money however they want.

@@Ferien7, actually a few do. They are few and far between but a few of them can recognise something other than a Rolex.

The best description of how men and women perceive watches, so true too. Love the channel, keep it going 😀
99% of women say "I use my phone to tell the time" when I ask why then don´t wear a watch.

Among all these male watch nerds, you are the perfect alternative with a different female
view and a very natural and nice style.
As for collecting, I bought myself an Omega Seamaster Chronometer, 36 mm, with an electric blue dial, and bought it when Omega stopped production on that watch in 2008. I love it now as much as when the day I bought it. ;-)
Even as a watch fan, I still see watches as accessories, and they still have to compliment what I wear. For this reason, I think fashion watches get this part right, and market it well.
When I retired my brother bought me an Oyster Perpetual. The basic Rolex. I wore it everyday for years.
Yes.
And....?
I also thought the ending to this story was a bit anticlimactic, but then I read that you own a Tudor Pelagos and realise you're a smart man after all.

And when the battery dies?
they ARE accessories, but we men like to think they are tools, because the real reason we wear them is becase we like to look at them and feel cool when we wear them, In truth we don't really need mechanical watches, but we appreciate them so we buy them and wear them.

You are so right. I don't wear watch so often because of the hassle of wearing and taking off the watch after use every day. I prefer to have my jadeite and 22k gold bracelet on both of my wrists 365 days. Another reason is watches for ladies are dainty and doesn't retain the value for me while watches for mens are big on my wrist.

my friend's girlfriend also likes the sub too.

You are damn right in not sharing your collection publicly. There's nothing paranoid about that, you are just being prudent.
Yeah I want to hear your thoughts on lady watches and marketing. Plus why most females purchase mens watches.
As a woman I like men's watches because they are the same size as bracelets I own and also I'm larger than most and find the ladies watches too skinny. And on a more practical note. I see the dial/hands better :) Simples!
"Men's" watches look so much better. They should be advertised as unisex, especially if on the smaller side.
8:40 fair point... The only advert with a woman doing something with a watch on her that I can remember is an Apple Watch advert lol
I love the smile when you are talking and remembering your wedding Jenni.
Where do women like you come from! Wow. You are smart, well spoken, super confident, polite, my gosh you are the perfect woman!

@@dstfno True enough. But to my point, what percentage of modern chornos are sold to THOSE guys?
Id love you to put time stamps for the questions throughout the video
...the best part of this was listening to your take on women and watches...rather than just another product review, this was personal...and much more interesting for that...please, would love to hear more...
My 3 watch collection: Omega Speedmaster (have the blue ‘57), Tudor BB58, and Patek Calatrava 5196. Of course I still need to get the tudor and patek 😅
My wife and I love to watch watch videos together. Yours are definitely going to top the list. More about ladies watch perspectives.
Here's my 3 Watch collection:
Rolex Submariner: Sports Watch
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch: Everyday
JLC Reverso Classique: Dress Watch
It's also probably the most iconic 3 - watch collection.
Pranav Subramoniam Iyer that's close to my ideal 3-watch rotation. I'd probably swap the JLC for a Cartier Tank.
First time I've seen anything from your channel: 2 minutes in and holy shit your video is SO high quality. Amazing video work! Earned a sub in 2min :)
So true about women in this hobby. I know one woman with a Rolex. Otherwise none of my female friends are interested in watches at all, beyond an Apple Watch or a garmin.
I instantly subbed because it’s so wonderful to see an enthusiast that I relate to!
In my married experience , women prefer bag over watches. They can wear one watch whole life but they must have 1 new bag per year at least.
It's so weird how I've been watching you for the past 6 months easily and only today noticed that I wasn't subscribed. You truly deserve all the support.
I own (checks shelf) five Casios and don't particularly care if I live or die. Burglars: come up and get me.
Getting bored by other channels on the topic. Thanks Jenni for presenting a fresh perspective!
High level collectors don't keep their collection at home. Most of their collection is kept in a bank, only a couple of watches at home.
EpicHashTime I think it depends on where you live tbh. I know people who keep a multi million dollar ‘collection’ lying around in their bedroom
EpicHashTime - Producer Michael for example.
I love how you described "Women-n-Watches" and the way they are advertised.
Breitling and Oris are doing some marketing with some ‘active’ ladies, pro surfers and divers.
You are very well spoken and very intuitive, not to mention very knowledgeable about watches ...I really like your channel, Keep up the great work.
You’re absolutely right about women’s watches/smaller watches. It’s pretty much impossible to find any complication on a watch smaller than 38-40mm
Wait what did you get for your husband on the wedding day? Did I miss it in this vid?
looks like a batgirl
rolex hulk if I remember correctly. It's on the german channel: Watchvice
@@ili4707 mate you can literally see in the image in the video that it's on a jubilee
@@BarbellBinks I think so too. Or maybe BLRO?
I love when I spot a lady rocking a Rose Daytona 116505 with a black dial 😍 some may argue that the case is too big for a smaller wrist but I personally love the contrast.
The fact that you're scared to tell youtube your collection and then flash a date just is enough info for these bandits.
"I'm starting to ramble" yes Jenni that's why I'm here
Jenni: wanted a date just, not too flashy
Me: sees ten diamonds 🤯
Very very good perspective about why less women are into watches. This is why ur channel is great. Genuine female watch lover here to communicate and bridge the gap.
i always found it kind of annoying how women's watches all looked the same and i personally know i don't like dainty looking watches so it was very underwhelming looking in the women's section and seeing the same thing in different colors
Jenni’s best video by far.... very insightful and useful understanding of the difference between the female and male consumer ....you build a one -hour B-school module around thus discussion
My wife once took my chronograph and when I was suprised if she is going to wear a men watch, she said
that most of the things shouldn't be splitted into genders. Why she as a medic could not wear chronograph
with a pulsometer scale? Watches for us are more like beautiful tools than just a jewellery.
Uldis 100% agree and I always tell my wife that
I really enjoyed this Q and A. That Datejust is stunning BTW
i thought collectors kept their watches in a safe in a bank, in them fancy rotators and whatnot.
Hahahah not everyone and those rotators are only for automatic watches :)
Short guess: They are heavy and women have lots of other jewelry options.
Not heavy for me, I wear 50mm invictas and planning on getting a 53.7mm invicta venom soon.
I loved your explanation of why women aren't more into watches. Thanks for your insight!
