We have made this for over 50 years. Our kids love it. I have always added sweet relish, chopped up sweet onions, and hard boiled eggs to the ground up bologna. It makes a great sandwich spread. Thank you for sharing your version of it also.

I haven't made bologna spread yet, but I'make ham spread a couple of times a year. Like your husband, I like Miracle Whip. It's what I grew up with. Today I use about 1/2 of each. I came to realize the subtle taste difference of the two.

We would buy a log of bologna at the flea market and come home and grind it with onions, dill pickles, and hard cooked eggs ( at the same time) then add mayo. I remember when Oscar Mayer used to sell a delicious sandwich spread made from ground bologna, relish, some dry mustard, a little vinegar (no mayo strangely enough) - encased in a cylindrical shaped clear plastic package, crimped at both ends. I always thought it was ham salad. Turns out it was just good old bologna. I always kept plenty in the Meats and Cheese drawer at the bottom of the fridge. I called it a "Ready When You Are Lunch in a Tube."

I do it with spam. I just use a grater because it's just one part to clean. Grating makes it a bit longer, thinner, stringier. Pickles. Miracle whip with dry mustard. Tastes grate! I see others use eggs. And the relish thing I could use my green tomato relish to see how it works. I think quite a few things in the fridge could go into this.
