Most pickers of his caliber use their guitar like a tool and a snap rubbing the back of a guitar is not on their register. I have tech’d for 3 very acclaimed country legends, and the only guitars they gave any precaution to was when they would bring out their guitars they are known by such as 53 blackguard or a 37 Herringbone d28. As for the d-28’s, 41’s etc that did a lot of the heavy lifting, they were rode hard and put away wet. If you look up some of the most famous guitars, especially in bluegrass in country, they are scratched and beat to death, Willy literally wore a hole through the top of his world famous N-20, probably the most valuable and widely known acoustic guitar on the planet.
Those two guys couldn’t be more talented OR nicer! I met them at a guitar festival and it was like meeting two dudes. Like “hey what’s up?” No attitude, not fake. Just regular cool guys

The term 'dobro' came from the Dopyera Brothers (hence, DoBro) - they were four Yugoslavian violin makers who came up with a self-amplified acoustic guitar (with a metal cone built in), so that it could be heard in the typical dance band/dancehall racket. They never thought to register the name, so a resonator guitar is colloquially known as a dobro, regardless of maker.
