Please don't compare. All that does is start the sparks for fire. Both those games are deserving their hype. It's also not the same situation. Lemme explain.
Obvious, maybe. But we thought Mario & Luigi was dead. Extinct. Actually gone forever. There was no hint or announcement or anything about them at all for these past 4 or so years of banruptcy. A silent death.
Hope was COMPLETELY shattered and lost. We thought one of our favorite IP's just got utterly abandoned and bit the dust.
Metroid Prime 4 has been knowingly in the making. Yeah, it's been an excessively and draining wait, but we all still at least had knowledge it was being worked on. That still sucks, yes. But imagine not knowing if it would ever come or exist in the first place? Not knowing if a continuation to a series so legendary was going to really return.
None of this is malice, I'm just trying to explain from a more understandable viewpoint. Although I'm not a Metroid guy, I was still grinning like an idiot during that reveal. Felt good to know another fandom was getting their dues.
@@just1randomguy658Prime 4 also restarted development from scratch. While not 100% confirmed, when it was first revealed in 2017 it was supposedly being made by Bandai-Namco Singapore. The explanation given by Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe is he wanted the game to feel as fresh as Prime 1 was, and felt a good way to achieve that was to have a brand new team/studio make the game.
Fast forward to 2019 and a surprise video gets dropped on Nintendo’s UA-cam where Shinya Takahashi explains that plans have changed. The version that was under development with this new studio has now been canceled (no official reason given, but likely there were serious issues going on with the team), but Nintendo will make sure Prime 4 still happens, so they’ve decided “well trying something new didn’t work, better stick to the old tried and true” and confirmed Retro Studios, the studio that made the original Prime trilogy, will now handle the game going forward.
During much of 2019-2020 a lot of job postings were made by Retro to help out with the project, and many industry veterans were hired, including people who worked on series like God of War and the original Deus Ex. Full scale production might have also been impacted by the pandemic, so that only made the wait even longer.
At the absolute very least, Prime 4 has been in the making for roughly 4-5 years. Personally I’m really curious what happened to the scrapped pre-Retro version. It’s possible someone like Matt McMuscles could reach out to some sources for a Wha Happun? on Prime 4 to get a scoop on if the scrapped version was a train wreck or not.

Alpha dream went bankrupt, but I believe most of their employees were absorbed into nintendo and still work with them, which may be why this game is possible.
