Shame you didn’t mention that you can put the wings on backwards or upside down and the game recognizes it.

Adam yeah. The Arwing wings have weapons if no weapon is attached. If the wing is on backwards then the weapon shoots backwards. You could also put a wing on a wing.

Adam probably a lot. 2 from each ship in the game on each side would make a lot. Also a weapon on each side.
in the digital version, you can attach 3 wings on each side + a weapon. It is possible that you might be able to attach more with the physical toys, but it might also break from doing that.

@@laffodile1636 I don't think they're bad characters, but Link was easily the most popular. The GameCube version sold the best as a result, despite being the worst selling console of the three.

This was a tremendous game that didn't deserve to fail. One of the things this video doesn't really touch upon is how the game develops into a galactic sized Real Time strategy where you have to make decisions on whether to protect a planet that is slowly being taken over or rush to fight an incoming battleship that will begin decimating another. The depth here was surprisingly great for a game marketed at kids.
I'd like to point out something that Antdude forgot to mention: You can play the physical copy without the toys for up to a week before you have to re-scan them again.

When I was a kid, I thought up of a Starfox RPG, and this was pretty close to what I had in mind. It had more of a traditional Starfox style in mind for certain moments, but it had the world exploration with leveling up, equipment, various jets. So I had fun with Starlink.
Cool, an interesting idea and underrated comment
Seeing you hold that Arwing in your hand that I saw you fighting in on screen just a few minutes earlier was something special. It's pretty cool when a game is done so well that people can enjoy it beyond the gimmick, thus making the gimmick something special.

A few things from someone who 100% completed the game just after launch:
-Buy the Digital Deluxe edition, it comes with every possible ship and pilot currently available, allows you to access everything in the game with no toys required, and is only 20$ more than the base game. Buying it all separately would cost over 100$.
-It does take a solid amount of time to complete the main story but sadly there's only 2 actual unique sidequests: The Star Fox campaign where you track down wolf over I think maybe... 5 short missions? and one other where you track down this scientist which leads to pretty much nothing. (I seriously thought my game was bugging out and refusing to show me any others, part of me still hopes it might have been)
-The feature to ask for a "Sidequest" will just point you to the nearest camp you haven't cleared, area you haven't searched, etc. so it's more just to help you keep going without needing to pull up the menu or whatever than actual additional content.
-All of the pilots are pretty interesting but don't add much, same kinda goes for the ships. The stats aren't that varied and everything plays pretty similar overall. (You also gain a level-up for every pilot you own when taking down certain bosses/completing objectives so even pilots I hadn't used until the end had a ton of skill points ready to go)
-Play the game on hard from the start, especially if you have Digital Deluxe as each ship acts as an additional life. I went through the game recklessly and even after switching to hard about a third of the way through the game, I never got a Game Over.
Even though these sound kinda negative I still really enjoyed my time with the game. It is a bit repetitive for sure but remains entertaining throughout. The cleanup after completing the main story though.... yeah don't do that. Once you've done all you want to I would recommend stopping there.
James Toomer I'm iffy on the digital deluxe point. I don't have the game, but if I were to get it, it would be to play entirely as Fox. Do I really need the deluxe edition if I only want to play Fox?
@@jasonball3496 The issue at that point is with the weapons. Not having enough weapons to finish puzzles (They might be completed otherwise but likely much more annoying) / do element combos in combat is a disadvantage.
Overall, I'd still say get the Digital Deluxe just to have the weapons and alternate ships (As each one counts as an extra life).

You know what I find fascinating. The fact that this game came out on Oct 16 of this year, the same day Skylanders came out in 2011. I am definitely buying this game and the toys.

Legit it looks and sounds like nms with a more action oriented core gameplay loop. To be fair, I like nms and that makes me interested in this, but still. It feels odd to see people so excited for...well, another variation on something they were hating on a bit ago.

Late reply, but to this day Rogue Galaxy has the best looking space I've seen in gaming. The main gameplay loop is basically just sci fi KH, but man they got some good looking space.
William no man sky’s sucked tho and was super empty ( at launch ) this is actually a fun cool game with cool characters

Anyone else notice that one of the planets is called "Haven," and this is a gem where you can seamlessly travel between surface and space? This is like Haven in that regard, but better and more focused. Homage, maybe?

Funnily enough; the Arwing has two uniquely special aspects to it aside from being a guest character:
Its wings have guns installed by default. Likely so the purist don't need "ugly" guns clamped on to their "precious" ship in order to shoot.
Jump-strafing and then boosting Does A Barrel Roll which can deflect shots like in Starfox

Don't forget, the combat has a Borderlands difficulty curve where you find enemies like 4 or 5 levels above you will absolutely destroy you. I love this game, I love the small little details they put in it, let's say you barrel roll and mess it up and you end up crashing, you see the pilots screen shaking and they go like "WTF!?". EXTREMELY pleased with this game.

Stasis cannon flame thrower ice barrage missiles and the imploder cannon are the only 4 weapons you will need throughout the whole game

Hey, a good ass core is the Warrior core. You can double jump with it, so you don't have to do parkour in the Saint Grand Missions.

It's not the Nadir, Neptune or Lance (The only ones aside from the exclusive Scramble) that i don't own.
Nevermind...
It's just the Nadir back-to-front.
All ships mount the wings toward the back except for the Nadir so AD got muddled and held it backwards.
The fact that the skull is facing to the back aswell doesn't help the confusion.

That sounds familiar, didn't we have that with Smash Bros and the amiibos, the Disney Infinity figurines, Skylanders, and let's not forget the Lego mini-figs that you can build and they would come to life in Lego Dimensions. Ahhh those were the good old days for some people!! Speaking of which, can you please do a video on Lego Dimensions and all the Disney Infinity games pretty please??

Do you need the toys to play with the physical game?
There is a digital version with a digital version of the starter kit. You only need the physical toys once to register them, then you can use them without the toy.
Have you ever tried out the Fossil Fighters Series? I imagine you would love them, being another hidden gem for the DS

Yeah I had too. Played as Fox the entire time too. Not to mention when you get the expansions you’ll have the rest of Star Fox to try. Slippy, Peppy And Falco. I love this game a lot. Thou....it could of been nice for other guest characters to be in the other versions. Maybe A special team from Star Wars. Oh! Well I use the Star Fox guns if I can’t seem to know which weapon too use. And I hope it stays too. And wish there’s other cool stuff to add on.
