I think I've watched this routine more than any other piece of comedy. The more you watch it, the more you realise how perfectly polished it is. A flawless comedy creation!
I saw this routine and I was like "is this guy kidding me?" I can't even believe it. Nobody sent me the memo that comedians would be telling jokes that are this neutral. It's like "how crazy is this?"
Jacob Jepson I know! It's like, I don't have time for that sort of thing. Who decided this was okay? Who lets these people do those things? No THANK you!
@@eppiebrilliant4982 I think they said that because a lot of less-polished comedians do the kind of act that Andy just parodied and poked fun at. Still, I doubt the audience would care much though.
Isn't it fucking GREAT that the host takes the mic and says: "Haha! Let's keep this movin' right alo- You guys are... This is IT! Right?!" Practically an extension of Daly's act, but the fact that he did it non-ironically makes it WAY funnier! This video makes me so happy it's absolutely ridiculous.
Wow. Thank you for uploading this, even if my laughter is a bit too loud (sorry!). What an absolutely amazing show. What an absolutely amazing weekend!
@dangernon It's a parody of comedians who use generic set ups and an overblown delivery style in place of writing actual material. Where he's saying things like "Look at these two over here, these two are going 'hey, well, we're here, you know," or, "excuse me sir, how much did that cost you? A certain amount of money?" he's distilling those premises down into their most generic and non-specific form in order to make a joke about how shallow that type of comedy ultimately is.
It feels to me like satire. Like, he's making fun of all the hackey comics who use gimmicks and catch-phrases for their laughs; the ones with zero substance who exaggerate their faces and bodies to get laughs. I love it!
yeah man it's meta comedy!! making fun of how stand up sets usually go, assuming people have seen a set before and therefore can pick up on the mannerisms and nuances that andrew daly uses during his sets that makes him so funny!
Find someone who laughs at your jokes as hard as that lady in the audience. Unbelievable! I mean, really? Are you serious?! And this guy right next to her. He's like, "I don't know. Whaddya want from me?" Can you believe this? Am I the only one?
Actually its a lot less complicated than you think. I heard him talk about the character on a few podcasts and the hosts seemed to think the same as you but he said he came up with it on the subway heading to gigs or whatnot with his friend. They challenged each other to talk without saying anything of substance all the way to the next stop .
I believe these people are actually laughing because they realize that this is the emptiest possible form of standup comedy. There's nothing there, and he sustains it for five and half minutes. Absolutely brilliant.
@yates00 Most likely because they know the act they're watching. The Jerry O'Hearne routine is REALLY confusing if you don't know the context of the act.
Well, sure, that's your opinion, but, "when you have to explain a joke, it's not funny," simply isn't a true statement. The joy of watching comedy, for some people, comes not just from the jokes but also from appreciating a comedian's formal craft as a writer and performer.
I think people read too much into it by saying its making fun of shitty comedy or like this sort of stuff is parody, what it is, is honest, there really is not much original stuff out there and even Andy Daly's own material probably mirrors this set, its commentary on shit being streamlined really
This is only for fellow comics (and people who are somewhat obsessed with stand up comedy). And for them (us), it's absolutely fucking brilliant. It's maybe the third or fourth UA-cam vid ever to make me literally laugh out loud. And the ONLY one to make me laugh to the point of tears multiple time within a few minutes. By the end, I was having trouble breathing.
But that's exactly the point. Comedians have to come up with new material for pretty much every set and it's exasperating. Contrast that with a musician that gets a bad response when the live version doesn't sound enough like the studio version. Comedians have it rough and they can't all spend months developing material unless they're really established.
That type of comedy isn't "shallow" - it's just not the most taxing to write. Comedy is anything that makes people laugh, whether it is deep and meaningful and took a month to come up with it, or whether it is a simple observation of something people often do. Neither are better or worse, they do the job in different ways :)
I think a young and aspiring comedian will use these formulae and well-worn tropes as a way of easing their way into the role of a standup comedian, but it is necessary to couch this material within this comedy format. It wouldn't work otherwise. I pity the first-timers that play to audiences that have seen this.
When you have to explain a joke, it's not funny. I don't know why these people are laughing. They must have been high. I thought this whole thing was just stupid.
I love that this is all meta and everything. But after two minutes, I wanted some substance. We get it, you're turning the comedy formula on itself and what not, but seriously? Five minutes of that. That's a waste of time.
Please call me when this gets funny. Cause I just watched 5:31 of people apparently laughing at themselves for being so stupid as to watch this. Did they actually pay for the "privilege?"
I think I've watched this routine more than any other piece of comedy. The more you watch it, the more you realise how perfectly polished it is. A flawless comedy creation!
"Hey, somebody called. They want their thing back."

Or YES thank you, right? I mean it's like, who even KNOWS any more!
Unbelievable..
"Hey sir, how much did that cost you - a certain amount of money?" destroys me every time I think of it
I've seen this a dozen times. Always makes me laugh. How did nobody ever think to do this? This is what makes stand-up great. Brilliance.
Man, this act was so ahead of its time that he predicted that this thing going on in the world right now would happen 😲
Brilliant. It would be absolute hell to follow this particular act for many of comedians out there.
Disagree, it's always good to walk on to stage where the audience are already dying

Style _is_ substance, in the right hands.
My favorite part is at 4:11 when he pulls out his 'notes' to discuss 'what else is going on,' it's a blank sheet of paper.
I'd buy this for a certain amount of money.
Best keep the recite they mite want there thing back!
the lady has a good laugh
dre857 Sounds a little like Janet Varney
“Somebody called, they want their thing back” 😂
Wow. Thank you for uploading this, even if my laughter is a bit too loud (sorry!). What an absolutely amazing show. What an absolutely amazing weekend!
This may be the most perfectly timeless comedy routine to ever exist. Especially his last bit
I'd hate to be the comedian following him.
This is ....'meta' comedy in the literal sense
Beat me to it... 4 year ago
This has got to be my favorite Bill Burr set
This guy is so funny, a critic said he should take over for the less funny host of a TV show that's been performing poorly lately!
This was a while ago, even longer that it previously was. Yet it still seems relatively recent.
DO I HAVE A SIGN ON MY BACK?! THIS IS CRAZY

"EXCUSE ME?? What is it, a long TIME ago??? It is NOW!!! IT IS NOWWWWW!!!!"
There were no highlights at this show....it was all one long highlight. Loved it all.
Divisive stuff...
This might be the funniest thing I've seen in months!
The last stand up act we will ever need.
This is a work of art.
I can't believe this was 6 years ago. It really holds up.
Can’t believe this comment was 2 years ago it still makes sense
@@bucklakelukie I can't believe it's been 2 years since that reply, just goes to show
@@PatrickJConnor I can't believe a certain amount of time has passed since that last comment. Are you kidding me?!
This is my happy video! Love you Andy Daly x
Tightest five I have ever seen 😂
He's taking the piss. To perfection.
One of the best routines of all time!! So glad I got to see this in person!
this stuff makes me feel
Kyle Strickland nice
You get it
Andy is such a comedy beast!
One of the best bits of all time

Best laugh I've had in while. My favorite part was his impression on the dude getting ready.
It’s like watching a Trump rally in 2024…
First minute: wow, this sucks, he sounds like every other comedian
Last minute: wow, this is brilliant, he sounds like every other comedian
Straight up genius.
what is it - a long time ago?

I believe you're the only dude who didn't get it
How didn’t he get it? That’s exactly what I got out of it too
This guy should be on something
tractorchimp and he was. It was hilarious.
“Just hanging out.. yk not trying to do anything” 😆
Did I have a stroke?
Erm... check please!
They were a good-lookin' crowd
This is genius.
he kind of reminds me of Kedzie Matthews from Mr. Show.
oh my god. you're so right
Yes! Also, Fred Armisen as Nicholas Fehn.
Yeah, I bet you would only pay a specific price at one of those stores! XD
"What else is going on...."
What is it, a long time ago??? Great stuff
The longer you watch this the more it makes sense. Because at first I was like this isn’t funny. But he’s just collecting laughs

Damn Kyle Eric and Tim owe a debt to Andy
@dangernon He's mocking hack comics.
All stand up ever in 5 minutes!
Fucking amazing.
How little can you say?
Ah. Now I get it.
dj 0.000001 - andy daly vs rappy mcrapperson
Did you see this
I'm fairly certain I can hear Jesse Thorn laughing at 1:43
Generic Stand up. Genius.
What else is going on
You should upload the graham clark routine.

Il sindaco brown
Reminds me of the SNL skit with Bill Murray and Steve Marston "What the Hell is That?" Except that skit was funny.

You know what would make this even funnier? Jokes... :l
that's the joke
You've obviously missed the point. Which is fine, art is subjective. But for anyone who has actually studied comedy this is hilarious.

Mystery to me, was the audience paid to laugh?
How was any of that funny?
When you have to explain a joke, it's not funny. I don't know why these people are laughing. They must have been high. I thought this whole thing was just stupid.
