Back in 2000, I received this cassette from my friend who delivered it from Poland to Russia. This LP was my school years savior. It is a masterpiece! Thank you, Spineshank!!
Seen these guys at a bar In seattle with Sepultura and Biohazard. Spineshank was 2nd band to play after this terrible band called running with scissors. Biohazard was 3rd and Sepultura closed the show. My brother took me for my 21st birthday. My best friend was there. We were both double fisting drinks. I was doing shots of scotch and porter beers and the occasional shot from people nearby for my birthday and my friend was doing double beers. One of the guys we were with brought weed and we got stoned at our table during the first bands. I made it down to mosh for Biohazard and sepultura. I thought I was going to puke on everyone a few times but never did. My friend ended up falling asleep when Biohazard was playing but I slapped him across the face to make sure he saw sepultura. The bar no longer exists. It was called The Phoenix Underground club. I think the earthquake took it out.
one of thefew thats still a good band bro.. Max knows how to combine all the era's and add in a few hallmarks of his sound.. and basically just make it battle music.. yea a lot of it is the same shit after all these years.. hasnt changed too much last couple of albums but its effective.. and stands the test of time way better than the nu metal time period they were spawned from post Sepultura..
Remember years ago I had this cd in my cd case(remember those)? Lol and this kid was like ewwwww you like them? Damn right I like them and at 30 I still do.
This album is so under rated, far greater than people ever talk about. imminent and elaborate suicide in my very near future and I had to play it as one the last, one of the best. Thankyou Spineshank. next I get Bile Teknowhore and then Skinny Puppy, the process.
The track "28" is actually meant to be '*28" which used to be an old home tough tone phone code for caller ID in the 1990s. *82 also had this function.
Interesting to know. Always wondered about that title. By the way, that eerie bridge interlude, is that just gibberish being screamed? Or is it an actual language?
Jonny here, Truth be told, we recorded this record at NRG studios in North Hollywood, and *28 was the number we dialed from the internal phone system in the studio to order alcohol. True story lol. We ended up racking up a HUGE alcohol bill by the time we finished the record and Tommy said, "FUCKING *28"!!!!!!!
To me, Spineshank sounds like if Orgy and Static X had a very very very angry baby. (not saying the singer sounds like a baby, js if you mix the vocals, you get this)
+Michael Nguyen Heavily influenced by "helmet" and "prong". Most of the "new metal" that came out through the 90's to the mid 2000's was. "killing joke" was a big influence as well.
I had this album in my late teens. Saw them live too with Static X - Hed pe and fear factory. Incredible intense show! Listening to this now! Its like wow, its really fucking good! I cant believe at that time the mainstriem media would focus on bands like coal chamber....... Good performers.... but shitty simplistic music.
@@HappyHumanist369 I thought Dark Days was pretty solid. They were so angry! And it was recorded after they had split and came back for a bit, just to record all their animosity!
I didn't really like this album when I heard it back in the day, despite loving height of callousness. Today, this the spineshank album I always go back to.
My friend told me I'd like this band and at first I doubted her because of what the UA-cam algorithm shows first, bit as soon as I saw an album from 1998 I knew I was just looking in the wrong place

each song sounds like an impression of other bands of the time. one will be very deftones, one very science era incubus, another very roots era sepultura. it does however sound pretty good despite being somewhat derivative
I always thought it was either gibberish, or perhaps Jonny just blurting out in Tagalog (if he speaks it, have no idea). Could be something else entirely, might not even be him.
@@silentcivilianmusic Holy shit… I can’t believe you’re actually replying to my comment. Nice to know it was Mike haha. Now I’m trying to imagine how it all transpired in the Studio. I’ve obviously heard many times that Spineshank had no plans to continue awhile back, but do you and the other guys (Rob, Mike, Tommy) still talk sometimes?
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh I still talk to Tommy, and we are working on new songs right now. Not sure if it will be spineshank. That depends on if Mike and Rob get involved. In the meantime, you should check out my other band Silent Civilian. We just put out a few new songs this month. Enjoy!!
If they had a better producer this album would have been groundbreaking but they were using the same producer as corn at the time and didn't want to make corn look like there was another band just as good as them or better
