MOROCCAN FISH RECIPE || THE BEST SHABBAT FISH || DELICIOUS CHRAIME || דג מרוקאי

- This delicious and easy moroccan fish recipe ( דג מרוקאי or Chraime" (חריימה) in hebrew) is a classic dish to enjoy on shabbat night as part of the sabbath dinner meal. This shabbat fish recipe is perfect for your shabbat meals !
You can even up the game and serve this moroccan fish in a tagine dish
This recipe is so easy, takes just a few minutes and uses simple ingredients.
In this shabbat fish recipe I used salmon to do this moroccan fish ( דג מרוקאי) recipe but any thick fish is delicious: white fish, haddock, cod, halibut, merlan, ...
One key element is to choose for this Moroccan fish with vegetables recipe is skinless fish! Do not forget as well to remove the bones of the fish ( i use a super trick in the video!)
As a side note, you might wonder why do we eat fish on shabbat? Good question!
Fish in Hebrew is dag דג ( dalet and gimmel) and it has the numerical value of 7 which corresponds to the 7th day of the week shabbat hence eating fish on shabbat!
Other custom say that whoever eats fish on shabbat will bring good tidings as eating fish on Shabbat represents the feast which will take place in the next world (Olam Haba) , in which the Leviathan fish will be served.
Isn't is a great reason to eat fish on shabbat!

Moroccan fish recipe:
3tbsp olive oil
1 small onion
4 cloves of garlic
1 rep bell pepper and or an orange bell pepper ( you can add green pepper for the colour pop!) if you use many colours, do a 1/3 of each but of course, add more if you want!
1tbsp tomato paste ( don’t forget to store the rest of the tomato paste as I showed you!)
1 sliced lemon
Olive to taste
1tbsp paprika
1/2 tbsp coriander
1-2 tsp of honey
1/2 cup of water
Salt-pepper to taste
6-8 fish filets we love salmon but cod, Haddock, bass, Merlan or any “thick/fat” fish will do too!
You can also add some cayenne or jalapeño peppers for a bit of heat!

Hi Chana, I am sure you will like this tomato paste trick. I am using it (this idea came to me before this video, as for many dishes we need a spoon or so of tomato paste, what to do with the rest?). So easy to use, it is always in a freezer and no waste at all. Agree with Dr. Sarah.
How much water did you add? If not eating for Shabbat and want to complete cooking how long do you cook it?
That's great! I put tomato paste into ziplock and freeze, but here is a great idea how to divide it. Thanks.
Thank You for this healthy and colorful recipe . All the best from France .Take Care 🕯️🌈🕊️
Merci mon amie❤️❤️❤️

Hi darling, love the recipe, cant wait to make it....also the tomato paste hack will for sure use....😘
Elenaaaaaaa!
You brighten my day every time I read your kind words!!
You are right! The tomato paste is AWESOME!!
Before I used to find my can of tomato paste at the bottom of my fridge all mouldy did it ever happened to you ?? I cannot wait to hear how the Moroccan fish will come out until next time don’t change Elena you’re amazing!
@@frumitup you too....especially your inspirational comment at the end of every video....the visual effects are amazing.....love the vibrant colors....G-d bless you....
I agree: tomato paste tip: beat tip EVER!!
@@frumitup i am with you!! I have found more than my share of moldy can of tomato paste in the back of my fridge!!!
The tomato paste gets spoiled in the can, i started putting it in the ziploc, but then when time comes to defrost, its a lot....so the square idea is brilliant...now i can squares and not overload on tomato paste😅
Thanks for the recipe. I’m going to try it with tofu I’ve marinated in nori and miso.
Hello kosher vegan dad🥗
Your take on the recipe sounds
Niuuuuummm ! Please let me know how it turns out!
This looks so easy! Keeper, for sure. And what an invaluable tomato paste hack. Thank you! (I should be getting ready for Shabbat but confined to bed at the moment. You are really motivating me to get better quick and change some things I'd gotten lax on though.)
thank you Hadassah!

Moroccan food is so delicious 😋
It really is!
This looks delicious and you make it look so easy. I will definitely try it this week and I can't wait to use the tomato paste tip!
Hi Frankie!
Thank you for your kind words!
it is really an easy recipe and this is why I try to always promote these kind of recipes because I don’t know if you’re like me but I don’t have time to spend days and days in the kitchen cooking!!
how about you are you passionate about cooking enough to spend hours upon hours on a dish?
I would love to know!
and if you are a passionate cook what is your favourite meal to prepare ?
thank you again for your comment for being here and if you need anything don’t hesitate to ask me I am here for you until next time stay safe and stay blessed
@@frumitup I wouldn't have called myself passionate about cooking until I read your response, but after consideration I think I am! I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and being exposed to new foods and flavors. My general goal for meal prep is to be efficient and I like quick and easy meals but I do try new dishes regularly. I do have a dish I prepare about twice a year that takes me a couple of days to make. It's a Spanish salt cod in a red pepper sauce. It's a LOT of work but my family really loves it and will often invite people over when they know I'm planning to serve it.
@@frankieamsden7918 awwwww Frankie I feel so blessed that you shared that with me!
You are obviously a TRUE CHEF 👨🍳!
If you have pictures of your amazing dish I would love to see them!
I am curious though, what needs to be done in the preparation that takes a few days?
Curing? Brining?
Thank you again for sharing your passion with me!
Stay safe and blessed!
@@frumitup unfortunately I haven't ever thought to take any pictures. This dish uses salted cod which I prefer to soak over a 24 hour period rather than boil out the fish. It gives the fish a firmer texture. You can use fresh cod in which it only takes a few hours to prep and cook.
@@frankieamsden7918 Hi Frankie thank you so much to have answered me I would love to know more about that recipe it sounds so interesting and here in this family we love cod so if you can find the recipe or you find the time to take pictures next time that you do it I would love to learn more about it thank you again so much for being so awesome and to have followed up with me all the best and take care of you
I dont usually see this recipe utilizing salmon. Am going to try it soon. I live in an area where fresh Salmon is very prevalent. Thankyou for sharing it with us ... Shalom my friend.
Labriut my friend!
Great tomato paste hack. Thanks!
I am so happy you liked it!
Your video came across my stream a few days ago, and I was curious about what is Kosher, so I started watching your videos:)
I didn’t realize that there are so many bugs in foods and I also learned a few hacks.
My celery will keep longer and no more throwing away tomato paste.
Today, June 13, 2022, I tried your Moroccan fish recipe. It is delicious with a big chunk of fresh bread on the side. (I used cod fish).
I was even more careful to watch for bugs.
Thank you for your videos, they’re delightful:)
Awww Odelia! I am so so happy you liked the fish recipe! And I absolutely love that the tips to keep the produce fresh longer are helping you!
Looks delicious! What side dishes do you serve with it?
thank you for the instructions. I really want to try it with tofu (I'm vegan). I think it will work really well. Served with pearl couscous
Hello Sara, can I cook this in my electric tajine ? Thank you so much 😊
You don’t need to freeze tomatoes paste:)
You can also level up the tomato paste in the can or jar and add some vegetables oil over:)
I tried it with sunflower oil and works.
You can keep it for longer like that:)

Coriander need to be fresh.
Sooo sweet. Probably you forgot the BASIC ingredients…. I’m from this region BTW. Good luck with the “original” Moroccan taste ✌🏻
Hi Dennis!
Thank you for your comment:)
I am intrigued: what is the basic taste you are referring to?
I would say love: but most probably not?
Piquant?
I would love to know!
It would be nice if you listed the ingredients and their quantities along with cooking instructions in a printable page. It is a pain to write down the ingredients, timing and instructions while watching the video. If you want a following, write it out so it can be printed out.
Everything is written in the description box below the video ❤️
1. those arent bell peppers they are jalapeno pepper. 2. ALWAYS remove the peel from the lemons otherwise your dish will be bitter! Other than that, good video!
thank you so much for your guidance Rich Rich!
On a side note, what i meant to say is that if you want you can add hot peppers ( not bell peppers) for a bit of heat ! my mistake!
as per lemons, My family has been cooking lemons with the peel for decades and because it is cooked with the sauce and honey, it is delicious, they are like lemon confits:)
I completely understand as well that taste and colours are personal:)
thank you so much again for your feedback!
stay safe and blessed my friend!
