    Correction. There's actually a lot, I mean A LOT of veggies and fruits in PH. You have to go to the local market, not the western type grocery stores to find them. The veggies are so fresh and cheap that the western type grocery stores dont carry them cuz there isn't enough profit to stock them, when everyone knows they are crazy abundant down the street for pennies. Also fruits and veggies in PH are 99% organic since the soil is so rich it doesn't need fertilizer or chemicals. Check out videos of vlogers that are actually living in PH and you will see what I mean. More veggies than what's here in the U.S., imo.

      Heey Ro! 😃 Thank you so much for your insightful comment, this makes a lot of sense! I wish I need this before we went haha, but you live and you learn. I mean, we spent most of our time in the cities except when we were in El Nido, and the supermarkets in Cebu etc, did not have a great selection. And when we were in El Nido, often the restaurants or smoothie places would often be low on their selection. Or like they would have it on the menu, but when I asked for it, they would not have it, and that happened often. I was still very happy tho lol. I love what you are saying about the organic, that is amazing! Philippines is lucky then, I don’t even want to think about what they are spraying our veggies with here in the U.S.. I will def do more research next time before I go back to the Philippines 😃 Thank you!

      @@CamillaJohannesen Yeah we are almost complete of veggies you can find it want do you want to buy only in the local market. Some supermarket stores don't sell veggies much cause they easily perish and low income profit. Most of restaurant or we call it here (karinderya or carenderia) you mostly see meat dishes options cause locals love meats. They only think for locals what dish mostly they want to prepare rather than selling veggies dish at the end of the day it was not sold. The best thing to do is to prepare your own food go the local market then good to go.

    • @PULUBINGMAHIRAP
      @PULUBINGMAHIRAP 4 роки тому +2

      @@CamillaJohannesen Selling vegetable dishes is low income profit compare to meat dishes here in the philippines. That's why local restaurant prepares food meat options. Few veggies options is prepare in sell just only for appetizer. We don't sell a lot of veggies dish here cause we're already fed-up of much veggies. So, locals find meat options in the restaurant. That's the story behind why you see less veggies in a resto but you can approach them to prepare your needs, they're glad to serve you a plenty of veggies 100%.

    Yes it's true that there are are only few vegan restaurants/establishments in the Philippines because Filipinos are mostly meat eaters. BUT WE HAVE LOTS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN THE COUNTRY WHICH YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH. You can find them in the fruit & vegetable sections of the supermarkets or malls. Many of them are already peeled off, sliced and ready to eat and/or to be cooked. In mall's food courts, there the BODHI, a famous chain of vegan foods. In the remote areas, you can find them in local public or wet markets. We have lots of vegetable dishes such as jack fruit cooked in coconut milk which is loved much by a European vlogger based in India. You can find them in local eateries called carenderia and you just have to ask the storekeepers.

You mentioned the good and the unpleasant experiences that you had while visiting the Philippines, but you have done it in a very respectful way. My opinion about two girls getting attention, let us rephrase that " two hot girls traveling will always get attention. Thank you for visiting the Philippines and i hope that you return for a visit. Vegan foods in the Philippines are prepared fresh/raw for tourists as some kind of side dishes to meat and seafood. But if you prefer cooked veggies, you can find it in fine restaurants where it is freshly cooked. The real reason why you can't find most veggie dishes available at once is perhaps due to our warm weather where veggies easily get spoiled we do not want to get food contamination because of it.

    Hello beautiful girls. just a correction, the PHL grow their own vegetables and fruits and cook vegetable dishes depending on what region. So, as a foreigner, the vegetable dishes are local style. I live in the North of Luzon, Baguio City and in this part of the PHL, vegetable is a main thing. come visit next time and see you again soon. 👍💖😊

It was literally a restaurant owner who told me all this, and then after traveling around for 1 month, we did not see too many good options for veggies. But we did see meat EVERYWHERE lol. Yeees, we would love to visit other places in the Philippines and get some pro advice on where they have the best fruits and veggies haha 😃

      @@CamillaJohannesen You gorgeous siblings are so welcome. Well, tbh Veganism can be attained in the Philippines easily, people just prefer veggies with small bits of meat, be it pork, beef or fish or other kinds of seafood, just to impart a flavor to the variety of vegetables cooked. The vegetable dishes here can also be cooked entirely vegan if preferred by the individual who is cooking.
      Now here's a list of Filipino Veggie dishes for future reference if you plan to return for another adventure conquering the islands :D
      but take note, they do have bits of various meat, either pork, beef or fish.
      Vegetarian Dishes
      Laing - Taro leaves in a spicy, yet rich coconut milk (might include bits of pork or beef)
      Ginataang Kalabasa at Sitaw - Squash and long beans on rich coconut milk (may include pork or crab)
      Tortang Talong - Eggplant/aubergine omelet (egg and sometimes with ground beef or pork)
      Chop suey - Originally a chinese dish of various veggies (might have strips of chicken or pork)
      Ginisang Mongo - Sauteed Mung bean soup, with bitter gourd or its leaves (may have pork)
      Ginisang Togue - Sauteed bean sprouts
      , tofu, carrots, baguio beans (may have chicken or pork)
      Lumpiang Togue - Bean sprouts, carrots, potatoes on a lumpia wrapper, deep-fried
      (may have chicken or pork)
      Ginataang Langka - Jackfruit in a rich, sweet and savory coconut milk sauce.
      (may have chicken or pork)
      Totally Vegan
      Adobong Sitaw
      - Long beans cooked adobo style
      Adobong Kangkong
      - Same as the sitaw variant :D
      Lumpiang Sariwa - fresh vegetables consisting of carrots, bamboo shoots, turnips, cabbage double wrapped in lettuce leaves
      Enjoy! and hope you gals do come back.

    Nice vlog.. really informative.. and I agree so much about safety. Many people who have never traveled to Philippines always think it is unsafe but that's so far from the truth. And I am glad you have just felt that yourself and comment on it. And definitely, the Filipinos are very helpful and easy going.. in fact they are so helpful (when they feel you need help or they can provide help), if you are from the West, you might think they want something or trying to fleece you. Hope you guys come back again one day!

    Thank you for your video. Thanks for the information on Cebu and where you first stayed which was pest infested and eventually moving to your Airbnb. I wouldn't want to make my first trip to the Philippines my last trip. Question? Food! Where did you eat and did you get sick (which you did) because I truly can't afford to get sick? Did you sign up with the US State department just to let them know where you were just in case? When did you start taking your shots? I have a million questions! Btw! I live on the other side of the state and its cold and snowy here.

    • @CamillaJohannesen
      @CamillaJohannesen  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching it! 😃 Haha, yeah same, sad if an AirBnb ruins your trip! Lucky there were plenty of other good options to stay. So here is a link to my last video: ua-cam.com/video/YauUw721ZuI/v-deo.html It's a food guide video on where we ate etc, so you can see the places we did not get sick haha. But the place where she got sick was an italian place called :Trattoria Altrove. No I don’t think we signed up for that, but that sounds smart 😃 So the only shot that took a long time was the Hepatitis B shot, that took almost half a year, you don’t 100% need it to go there, but it's recommended. The other ones I took a few weeks before I think. Just ask away, I'm here to help! 😊

      @@CamillaJohannesen actually... I am from the philippines since birth :-) I tried veganism way back in 2011 to 2012 back then there wasn't much vegan/vegetarian options in my area (I live in a mountain town of antipolo which is few minutes away from manila and back then my area wasn't that developed as much as it is now) vegan/vegetarian options are now getting popular due to health conscious millenials and travellers such as yourself, more restaurants now have this option... you can still have vegan/vegetarian diet here..just order your favorite dish minus the meat and animal products or prepare something for yourself. most vegetables,fruits and plant based products are quite affordable especially with street vendors or at the palengke :) good luck

    I just don't know which grocery or mall you went to for veggies. From where I come from in Cebu, most malls & grocers carry a whole lot of a variety of veggies, as cheap as a $/pound for the locally grown organic romaine or iceberg lettuce. Even much cheaper in the night vegetable market sold by the farmers themselves. The next time you're in town, ask me & i'll gladly show you. South of Cebu is more abundant coz it's where the islands vegetable basket is located.

    interesting video but this perception of the lack of availability of vegetables and fruits in the Philippines is something i don't get. true, it is a fish and meat eating populace but vegetables and fruits abound and it's real cheap. afterall, it's a tropical country w/ a long list of different types and species of greens and fruits not normally found in western countries.
    i guess if one is a vegan, asking the locals where to get the greens will be the best move to do since they will helpfully point you out to the right direction.

If you read some of the other comments, you have a lot of other filipinos backing you up 😃 I didn’t mean for it to sound like a statement, it was someone who owned a restaurant who told us this. And after spending a month there we often felt a big lack of fresh fruit and veggies. Restaurants and cafes would often be out of certain items etc. But you are totally right, I will do a lot more research when I come back and I can’t wait to visit all the local markets 😃 But that’s exciting that you are watching from UAE, I've been to Dubai 2 times, but preferred the Philippines 1000 times more haha 😃

      @@CamillaJohannesen yeah, and it is more expensive here for sure and very limited sights to see! the philippines' advantage is that it has an english speaking people and the culture is so different from anywhere in asia due to its spanish and american influences....not sure if you check your analytics but i'm sure you have a lot of filipino subscribers who are based abroad because we do love to see what's going on in our country especially from the eyes of foreigners...still watching your other vlogs though...more power!

    Still, be more vigilant and careful going to remote places by yourselves. It is best that you ask for Filipino friends to go with you.

    Vegans would find it problematic in the Philippines, mainly because locally, most of our food is veggie based with a little bit of meat thrown in to bulk it up. Eating out therefore is usually celebratory in nature, thus the menu offers more festive and meat based food.
    Vegetables are typically not found in grocery stores, but rather at the market where all the fresh stuff can be found.
    P.s. in most of south-east asia, meat is considered food for the well off. That may give you an insight as to why most eating places serve meat based food.
    Come back again, you will be always welcome here.

    • @CamillaJohannesen
      @CamillaJohannesen  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for your comment! Yeah, I learned now that we should rather go to the market then to the grocery stores etc. Hopefully we will be back again at the end of this year!

    thanks for visiting the Philippines.. 😊 we do have lots of local vegies and fruits here but you need to go to the market place to get them cause most restaurants serves meat and fish dishes.
    if you are into mountaineering and stuff like that, you should visit northern part of the Philippines where they grow most of the vegetables. safe travel always..

    There are also nice places near manila😊 with beaches just like in other provinces. Like in batangas, cavite, subic, real quezon etc. So if you want to travel to good places 1month is not enough😊 and if you like fishing you can do it anywhere and you dont need fishing license.😄 and i agree with the sister you need to really do research before going her in the philippines... new subscribe from the philippines 😊salamat
