EPIC Sings for Autism was borne out of the need to connect in quarantine in the time of COVID-19 and bring awareness to the autistic and developmentally disabled community who have faced unprecedented challenges during this time.

i remember the first time i heard this song in the production, and i immediately fell in love with it. this is such a pivotal moment for small al, and sydney's nuanced expressiveness really brought this performance home.

I have read the "Fun Home" graphic novel, but not seen the production on stage. The first time I heard this song, I realized that this was the sensation I had time and again as a child, and never knew why. There were people who made me so, so uncomfortable to be around because it felt like I had a secret that I didn't know, but they did, and I didn't know what they'd do with it. I spent my whole life terrified until college, when it all clicked. And it clicked because of a moment just like this one. This song is my whole coming-out-to-me story.
I'm now using Sydney Lucas's performance at the Tonys when people ask me what it's like to be gay, to realize it.This song carries the voices of worlds of LGBTQ+ people who finally got to hear something that made us go "Yeah, it's just like that." Representation matters.
