This really makes me appreciate my poor mum. She was widowed not long after my little brother was born and I was about three. There were eight kids (Catholic obvs) so every one of us gave her cause to worry at some time or other, including my second oldest sister who got pregnant at 16 in 1969. She met every single problem with equanimity and a huge amount of love
@@barbarapalmer8224 lol, he’s 52 now. But yes, of course he was. My sister also told me how he came out which shocked me to the core - I was not even 8 and always thought they came out of your belly button!!
Loved this ,as an Irish Catholic it is so true to life and it makes me miss my mom and Dad so much the lovely up bring my brothers and sister and I had💕 thanks for the upload 💫
That was brilliant. I remember watching it first time around. I grew up Catholic after my mum converted. My dad would have nothing to do with it and it never resonated with me either. However, watching this evoked many memories and though I'm more Pagan in my sympathies, I still ask St Anthony for help when I can't find something 😆
I was looking for this just five months ago to show my students! What a classic. I love the last few scenes, when Dymphna's peppering her speech with Yiddish and ends up frummer than thou.
A great play and the message here is that religion is a form of control and the only one that has control over me is ME and that folks is why i am athiest. Supurb cast and Carmel McSharry was great a bit later on when she took the place of Dandy Nichols opposite Warren Mitchell ( Alf Garnett ) and its always good to see Syd Taffler. The rest of the cast are well known too and this was very well produced.
I was watching Hitchcock Presents and forgot he introduced them as plays, in the beginning 1 hour but American tv made it 30 min so dumb. Everything is made for short attention spans. Has to be explained. These make you think critically and not in a shove it down your throat way. Im glad they live on here to enjoy ty for sharing🎉
The idea of limbo was one of the first things I thought was horrendous rubbish when the nuns at school tried to tell us about it. I remember thinking if god was the wonderful person they talked about when they told us about Jesus then he would never have tolerated the idea of original sin and not letting babies into heaven.
My gran was a devout Catholic, she asked her priest about this as it was something she couldn’t accept. His reply was “The God I know & love wouldn’t punish an innocent baby and I’m sure the God you know wouldn’t either” she never questioned it again.
what year was this made id love to show this to my mum and a very young linda robson i have done llindas hair as i live near her and shes dead down to earth and comes from a irish backround too and a grand woman xx
Not an original idea. I once read a story by Gerald Kersh about the same situation. Only the man converted and became so fanatically Jewish that he ended up refusing to marry the girl because her family was so lax and non-observant.
@Marie Falmouth Atheist here not looking for New Age philisophies. Or any other alternatives to religion as my life is fulfilled enough thank you. Ex-catholic and I recognise the prejudices and hypocrisy here - all too real. Viva atheism!! I just love everybody. Great to see a teenage Linda Robson. Cheryl Hall was very underrated and great at any rôle she played.
It seems to me that quite a lot has been edited out. Some scenes don't run smoothly from one to the next, for example at 20min 30secs where it cuts from them in the car to the house, discussing the pregnancy. What's been happening in between? Excellent play though.
Great drama. Quite comical at times. A staunch Catholic Matriarch and the fussing, possessive Jewish Mother who treats her adult son like a child. Lots of familiar faces here too.
Religions supposed to bring the people closer together. It's done the opposite. It's not the religion's fault. It's the ignorant people's fault. I get along with anyone with any religion or even with no religion. Regular people just look for any reason to start a conflict. Because they are insignificant.

I can't enjoy it today, I'm cringing too much.
@@irenemax3574 What's your problem?
Are you an American have you ever been to Ireland...................?
Cracked me up when my Catholic brother in law called that kind of praying "taking laps around the Rosary".
If only they could produce today, what is on the surface a simple thing and yet perfectly enacted !
The uncle is mint! This WAS hilarious!
Absolutely brilliant!
Excellent, I was too young for PFT when they first aired, real quality drama.
A really good watch! With lots of stars from yesteryear. Thank you again for these Play for Today watches. Really miss standalone dramas like these.
Wonderful …..she turns into her mum in law 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for this 👍

So much humour in this, loved it.
Magnificent. What a stellar cast, too. Thanks for posting. Shalom 🇮🇱 🤝🏴

There's a difference between being a true Christian and religious sucker.
Atheists live in a different delusion.
This is a good snapshot of another generation, not so long ago, when religion was important and what many families were like.
Lol 😂 word for word ringing in my ears . Lol 😂 really enjoyed the drama .
Loved this when I first saw it years ago and I still do. Hilarious.
Totally irrational way of thinking my Irish mum still the same 😂 but I love the bones of her ❤
Wonderful. All's well.ends well. They love each other irrespective of religion.❤🎉

Carmel McSharry (1926-2018) RIP
Absolutely hilarious 😂

Limbo is not rubbish because you disagree that's your opinion

Religion! Mumbling replacing prayer and hypocrisy all over.
Atheism has its benefits😊

Young Linda robson.
That was Epic ❤

Is that Linda Robson? Carmel McSharry is fab.
It is Linda Robson circa 18.
@@HookBeak_66 It's Cheryl Hall
Yes its Linda Robson 😊
So good😊❤❤
Thank you!

Robert Lindsay's ex missus, Cheryl Hall.
And in the end she turned into his Mother.

I don't know if this was meant to be a comedy but it certainly ended up being one.
But I did love the Jewish family😅🤣😂

Все формы религии основаны на любви к ближнему, а по факту одно лицемерие и ненависть, thank you for movie👍
MRS HOLLINBERRY ALF GARNETTS NEIGHBOUR AND PHOBIES GRANDMA IN GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART
The woman at the end was trying to be super Jewish, was cringy 😂
Why is that ?
@Patricia O'reilly made me cringe ... as she was being more Jewish than her Jewish family and that's why ...
It is Anthony with a H
Mary Magdalene was also jewish
So typical, he said he was Jewish, she was horrified, yet Jesus christ was Jewish....
That's the irony.
Catholicism is a counterfeit.
Devil worshippers in disguise
Hand up the skirt 😛
