    I am trying to buy one soon. I was sold on the 170 SE after much research and then was told at the dealer i needed the GTX. I have 2 kids who would be using it the most over the next 5 years. My wife and I would use it for short rides too. I am an over thinker, GTI OR GTX?? Used for freshwater lakes that can get choppy but would utilize for multiple rec uses: pulling tubes, riding, cruises, etc. Do the different hulls make that much difference? Tell me what to buy

    • @watercraftjournal
      @watercraftjournal  4 роки тому +6

      Your dealer is trying to sell you on a pricier unit. The GTI SE 170 is demonstrably superior (albeit slightly smaller) than the GTX. The hull tracks straighter in rough water, the Ergolock seats are near identical in their brilliant design (we love it), and both share the LinQ system. No, the main difference is hull design and the GTI hull is so, so much better. There's too much to list in the comments, you'll need to read the full length articles on each skis on www.watercraftjournal.com.

    you were showing 7700 rpm's at 54 mph and i looked back on my post on greenhulk and see that my max rpm's were 7300 and 55 mph so i bet with a impeller change this will easily get closer to the fabled 60 mph.

    Another awesome review Kevin!
    I’m so torn between the 170 se and the vx cruiser HO
    I plan on pulling my kids on a tube, doing some touring with the wife, and ripping it up when gong solo.
    Which of the two would you recommend?
    Which is more playful?
    Keep up the awesome work!

    • @watercraftjournal
      @watercraftjournal  4 роки тому +1

      Understand that the entire VX lineup shares the same hull sculpt as the GP units, so it's definitely sporty. The new GTI hull is a little "looser" meaning you can whip the tail loose when properly motivated. The 1630 ACE 170 doesn't come "on" as hard as the High Output, so that makes for towing a little more progressive (your kids will appreciate it). Frankly, it's hard to argue with Sea-Doo's Ergolock seating and BRP premium sound system - but the 2021 Yamaha VX series now has a comparable sound system offering, so it's a bit of a wash!

  • @nathanwire9686
    @nathanwire9686 4 роки тому +1

    I’m a little confused here, what exactly are the differences between the GTI and the GTI SE besides the power? Am I paying thousands more for the power alone?

    • @watercraftjournal
      @watercraftjournal  4 роки тому +1

      First, you're conflating two different models. The base GTI (white and turquoise) is with the ACE 900 (90HP) engine. When you step up to the SE, you're paying for either the 130 or 170 from the larger ACE 1630 engine, added dash functions, as well as a folding swim step, a USB port, and BRP Premium Audio.

    Wish Seadoo would offer a 170 hp version of the RXP-X or a GTI 170 on the TR-3 hull. My 170 hp FishPro will hit 60mph at 8000rpm with nothing on it but me. I really like the ST3 hull for its softer ride but it is twitchy in the rough stuff like you say. Running with trim all the way up for no trim ( straight through at the nozzle) makes it way less twitchy.

    • @XF_Chaos
      @XF_Chaos Рік тому +1

      A naturally aspirated RXP-X? Interesting idea. Not sure it really has a place in the market, seeing as it's meant to be a high-performance race ski and 170 hp doesn't really fit that, but I'd be curious to see how it handles as well.

    • @watercraftjournal
      @watercraftjournal  3 роки тому

      We don't. They're not intended to compete whatsoever. The GTI is meant to be a fun, playful yet stable platform for families. The VXR/GP HP is designed for aggressive handling/racing. Hull shape/material, weight, etc. are huge distinguishers.

    • @watercraftjournal
      @watercraftjournal  4 роки тому

      The Yamaha VX HO was our selection for Watercraft of The Year last year for good reasons. Sea-Doos are reliable only as so far as you keep it properly maintained and don't operate it irresponsibly.

    • @hardwoodhitman5131
      @hardwoodhitman5131 4 роки тому +2

      I went with the Yamaha VX HO,,,,It had more of what was important to me and the family. First it's a Yamaha, I've owned many Yamaha products ATV"s and dirt bikes mostly. I can't say I had any problems with any of them at all. I liked the looks better and it has more power they say. It's hard to tell for sure but the top end is quite a bit higher. Five to Seven miles an hour is a lot on the water. I will say the Sea Doo is Cool from a feature perspective but for me it wasn't enough to steer me away from what Is said to be a more reliable machine.

      It has the be the hull design that slows that ski down. It should be over 60 with the HP especially since it’s in the lower 700 lbs. Using the Kawi STX15F as a reference, at 160hp and weighs over 800lbs, it will do 60-61 all day long. The hull shape has to be killing its top speed. I mean even if the production model if it tops at 57-58 is not off by much compared to others and most can’t tell the difference between 1 and 2 mph. The loss in top end is probably the trade off to better handling characteristics and stability compared to the Kawi 🤷🏻‍♂️. The Kawi does handle pretty good though 😂...

      Certainly! But most folks who buy this machine aren't looking for top speed numbers. Why drop all that coin and void the warranty when you could go with the supercharged GTR 230?

      The Watercraft Journal -yeah I totally agree. I was just surprised there is not a little more top end in that package especially with the engine upgrade versus last years model

    This guy is NOT smart when it comes to Jetski’s!

      FYI it's "jet skis" when talking about non-Kawasaki watercraft. "JetSki" is a trademarked name; "jet ski" is a common genericization.
