Maria Kowroski discusses how this Balanchine classic is, at its root, the story of a relationship. Agon translates as “contest” in Greek, and the ballet’s central pas de deux is a back-and-forth conversation between a couple, manifested in physical form.

Maria is absolutely stunning in this pas. Wendy Whelan was also queen of the pas, but since her retirement, no one can touch Maria in this part.

The casting is out through Feb 25th and she is dancing Agon at the Feb 24th matinee, for which I have a ticket- can't wait!

It's incredible what they do.I think Balanchine was demanding supernatural power from his dancers.Watch out 2.25.This is beyond the limits of a human body specially a ballerina's in pointe.
