Genre D’ambiance - York is a top one. Not a huge fan of the campus personally and St John is the older more central one but not as good. Campus looks nicer. York in general is a beautiful city and there’s lovely areas around it, too.
first thing to do when you arrive in york is walk the walls. this will give you an idea of the layout of the city, and also offer shortcuts (when the walls arent busy but the streets are) to get from one side of the city centre to the other. much like the snickleways the various "historic" and ghost tours avoid. second thing to do is avoid all the tourist tat setups (some featured on this video). ...and dont forget the nightlife!
Going to visit there tomorrow so I hope you see this soon. How would you recommend to travel the city? Is it possible to visit most of these places by walking? I wouldn't mind using the bus services but this is my first time in England and i am not sure how the routes work. Any other places I should visit?
PinkBeautyOnline Natural Is The New Luxury I lived there when I was doing my studies at their York University. Amazing city and I met amazing people. I would highly recommended it
The Shambles was not the inspiration for anything in Harry Potter. JK Rowling has never visited it. So stop telling lies and ruining our beautiful streets with cheap Harry Potter merchandise
you guys are doing an amazing job! I've seen many travel channels but still urs are my favorite would love if you make some adventure in the middle east like Dubai & Riyadh keep up the great work !
Not one mention of the National Railway Museum??? It’s free and very, very good. I especially love how they have a storage area for so many artefacts and that you can walk round it all. It felt like the nazi hoards in Indiana Jones!
We went a couple of Summers ago and had a great time. Didn't rate the ghost walk as there was far too many people for the one guide so the tour lost all atmosphere but really recommend doing the free York walking tour. Took nearly 3 hours, was completely free of charge (we were going to tip the guide at the end but he literally legged it as soon as the tour finished). The guy who lead the tour was super knowledgeable about all aspects of the city and doing the tour really helped us get our bearings. Also recommend getting up on the walls where possible and walk around the city that way.
York is such a beautiful city, we lived there for years and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Pig and Pastry on Bishopthorpe Road is great for breakfast and the Rose and Crown on Lawrence Street has some of the best pies in the city!
What a great informative video I've seen for a long time,48 hours in York in a few minutes, can't wait to visit when things start to return back to normal.,thankyou.
I'm taking my Mrs here in 2 weeks. Taking her for a 4 star meal, then to the bar for a few cocktails, walk the river ouse at sundown and then propose. After watching this video, I feel that before I take her for a meal, we try some of these in your video. I've also heard of the golden fleece, most haunted pub in Britain. If you see this, how do I find the ghost tour? Is there a certain place and time that I need to be?
it is Just 2 hours how i back from York. I Visiting York city just for few day,s but i have so much joy and good time, same day ,the same in night as well. I was so exited to know more York history and definitely i will recommended to my friends if they will come to Britain.. definitely few days they should spend in York.

Isnt there anything to say about the river and the ship - pub on the dock? I thought it was a marvelous scene back in the eighties when i visited the place.
Visited York earlier this year..has several amazing sites to see the cathedral is awesome site on its own even more once your inside ..total must see..enjoyed my stay however like all these tourist hot spots it’s not cheap and very commercialized not been anywhere like this that hasn’t been of course. Interesting to have not included the walls, especially since they can be a helpful shortcut on a packed itinerary like this. Also an added bonus for people travelling to the city, the railway station is beautiful with its own Victorian history.
1 of the best places too visit!! Roman history, viking history, medieval history.....so many cool and unique pubs and bars too visit. Oldest high Street on the world! It has everything!
Hi guys, I live in Asia and never been to the UK. After watching this I am very interested to visit York! What is the best way to travel to York? How many days will you recommend staying there? Thanks in advance!
Hi! if you are travelling directly from Asia It'd be best to get a flight to Leeds Bradford Airport and then a train from Leeds station into York Station. Unfortunately there aren't any airports in york. It'll take around half an hour from Leeds airport to the station and about an hour by train into the centre. I'd say you should stay in York for the minimum of 3 days. You'd have done everything there in around a week so if you want to add in a few extra days taking a break from all the walking and relax in the hotel go for 4-5 days :) York does have a lot of hotels, I recommend Park Inn if you want the cheaper options but still want to be in the centre. It's right next to the River Ouse so everything mentioned in the video is surrounding it and you don't have to travel far.
I can tell you categorically that the Shambles was not the inspiration for Diagon Alley as JK Rowling had never even been to York before writing the book. The Harry Potter shops (there's 3!) are weird but it's better than having a shop empty, so more power to them!
Quick one about the shambles its where they actual filmed harry potter and is the actual diagon ally if you look in the films you can see the features of the windows and also if you look in the sky line where the minster is in the film you see gringots which was edited in post
