    For me scalemates is the best resource to check with before making desision on buying any kit. they have timeline ,instruction downloads, revirw links...just splandid. For example I checked with 'em while watching this vid, and here you go: heller - 1967. mistercraft - repack of Reflex (1980s) with new decals. the only decent kit would be probably RS Models's new tool of 2012.
    ps
    wow! and they linked your video for RS inbox review ))

      I didn't know scalemates yet when I bought the Mistercraft Caudron, but nowadays I usually check them before I puchase a model. The Heller kit can be upgraded (see this vid; ua-cam.com/video/v1VenNA_q60/v-deo.html ) but it takes quite some extra work. Although I haven't built the RS Caudron yet, I have built some of their other models (He 112-B and Avia B-135) and those also needed extra work, as the fit wasn't the best. But at least the surface detail on them looks good!

    Nice review, thank you. I have both kits. I hadn’t noticed the flap problem on the MisterCraft kit 🤔. Aftermarket canopies are available from Falcon 👍

      Thanks for the comment! You may want to check my review on the RS Caudron here;

      I have now uploaded a video where I use the very good RS kit as a pattern to upgrade the Heller kit;

    I have built the Mistercraft 1/72 Fw190, perfectly fine kit for the price, few things here and there but comes out very nice, 99% of the other kits they make are horrible tho unfortunately

      Yes, it seems Mistercraft got its moulds from all over the place; some are ancient basic models from the 70's, and some are rather badly copied old kits. But they also reverse-engineered some better models; I suspect their FW 190 and their Bf 109G were based on the fine Hasegawa kits. However for the price I suppose one cannot expect them to be as crisply detailed as the original.

    RIP Heller. Never will a Mistercraft kit find its way into my stash. Gotta love the french WWII designs, they are something else. There is something charming about the Heller kits, maybe it`s the simple fact they are french?!

      The Mistercraft kit was a bit of a mistake, as I didn't know the brand at that time. The low price should have been a red flag and I should have double checked. Ah well, at least it could serve as a bad example..

      That is indeed a good improvement to the old b/w painting instructions

    I got a YAK-1 from Mistercraft. As a brief conclision of mine it is the worst model kit I've ever had! The pieces were very bad in shape. In order to match them a lot of hand crafting were needed. The details on the surface was very poor. I don't even want to talk about the canopie! It was dull and shapeless. There were too much burrs on the kit. It is really cheap not only for its price but also the quality!

      I think Mistercraft models are just cheap rough copies of older kits. Their boxart looks more up-to-date than their models!

      The Yak-1 (early) is the old 1978 ZTS Plastyk kit. They weren't that great in 1978 either, especially compared to the Japanese kits, Monogram and Revell. Even Matchbox was better. In my opinion, the Eastern European kits back then were just horrible. I didn't like Airfix either, but at least Airfix was better than those. Now they are much, much better, but you have to research the kits to make sure they are new tool kits and not reboxes like these.

      It is very easy. You have to buy mistercrafts that come in "fresh" forms. Many newer sets use molds that were developed by well-known manufacturers, and most importantly - these molds have not yet been exploded.
      Unfortunately, many models are relics that remember the times of deep communism. The forms were not renewed and with time they deteriorated. However, if you find old kits, made before '89, I recommend it.
