Thank you, the Holy Spirit would say don't forget after adding the paprika from the Holy Land, to add the leftovers from the pilgrimage to the menu.. I was thinking of oatmeal for my lent season with any frozen leftovers.
When I think of Lent, I think of lentil soup. How is shrimp keeping with the spirit of Lent? That’s the stuff we eat for festive occasions. It’s expensive.
Okay, I was ready for a really savory meal UNTIL you mentioned SHRIMP! I don't like shrimp and I'm glad I never liked it because all shell fish close up my throat. I'm highly allergic to anything in a shellfish product. I'm Mexican and perhaps we have developed so many meatless, ( really vegetarian meals) for Lent that they are more of a treat once a year, than a sacrifice. Of course we all know lentil soup but have you had AVA SOUP? IN English it's FAVA SOUP made with dry fava beans . You can buy them in a Mexican grocery store during Lent. It's thick and delicious. Did I mention I don't like cilantro or celery? Yes, both are too strong for my taste buds. But celery used sparingly is great. My Czech mother-in-law taught me how to make potato HALUSKY, potato dumplings dropped by the spoonful in hot water to cook then you add them to fried cabbage and onions and you will stuff yourself. Another meatless meal I have is an entire avocado made in to guacamole with diced tomatoes, diced onions and a bit of diced garlic per person. I also enjoy scrambling 2 eggs along with it on the side and eat it with about 4 flour tortillas. I observe Lent all year long. It's good to refrain from eating meat once a week but MORE than that, the sacrifice from eating meat can be offered for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, who need our prayers constantly. Imagine their love of YOU when you offer them the sacrifice of eating meatless just for them. They will repay you with endless help and prayers. I saw that help last year. I woke up one morning last August feeling breathless and feeling as if I had a heavy weight on my chest. I was SURE I had developed pneumonia so my sister and brother-in-law drove me to the EMergency Room of a hospital.I was there for 6 days until they found out what I had ....TONS of pepper Corn sized blood clots all over both my lungs, FRONT and BACK. The 2 cardiologists attending me where shocked at what I had. They had never seen this before. YET, I was in no pain and I was feeling good fo the grave condition I had. I am SURE it was the protection of the Souls in Purgatory whom I had rescued from that place, that were now watching over me. I'm still on medication to eliminate the clots, but I have never felt sick. Each day that you eat meatless, offer it for something in your life, the conversion of your children or other family members, Drug addiction of a friend or relative, a happy marriage for you or someone else, the list is endless. But make that conscious offering each time and your life will be filled with prayer.
lol @Google User, lent means you can't eat lots of things, butter is included. Lent is not only about meat, it is also about milk, eggs, cheese... read about that somewhere on the net, then place comments.

Isn’t Lent mean no dairy also for Catholics? Or is that a Orthodox Catholics? That might be it.
Mags131 Catholics can have dairy. Orthodox Christians are way more strict in their fasting.
hmmm, sorry, but butter is not lent food unless is not made from milk...please comment
nah, it is definitely not lent food, spaghetti and butter is epic fail for lent.
Butter is not meat. You cannot eat meat during lent.

But "Irish butter"? Sounds a little too special for Lent.
Dok Smislim for Latin Rite Catholics, we no longer abstain from dairy in Lent.
