In1936, Harley Davidson came out with the now legendary overhead valve Knucklehead, and, one year later, they introduced the new Model U to take the place of the depression era VL model with the flat head engine design. Fast forward ten years, and, in 1947, the UL models were a tried and true engine design and were being offered with the 74ci flat head motor as well as the ULH models sporting the larger 80ci version. The larger 80ci mill was developed for commercial use and was also the side car engine of choice. The 74ci models were targeted towards the solo or sport rider of the day, but, unless you looked at the VIN on the side of the motor, the UL and the ULH were basically twins and anyone would be hard pressed to tell one from the other. This very nice example of the 74ci UL has just come available after a number of years in a private So. Cal. collection. It has been fully restored, not as a perfect 100 point trailer queen, but as a very fun classic rider. The motor and power train are in very good order and it runs out nicely. The bike sports an original speedometer, springer front forks and16" wheels, along with all of the other cool and period correct amenities. Being that this bike was built to ride, there were a number of reproduction parts used in the rebuild, such as the frame, front fender headlight and other small sundries. The motor cases are quite unmolested and the VIN numbers are very correct with matching lower case numbers as well. This motorcycle would make a truly fun rider and would be a real head turner at any event.
