20 year old, but very nice short documentary about Papua. I was lucky to get see the birds of paradise, cassawaries, and komodo om Bali as I really could go further East to Komodo annd onto Papua just on my own. For that you adventure, you'll need specialized guides and guards that gets expensive though the protection services are necessary particully if starting out in the dangerous high crime city of Port Moresby. I guess what's probably changed the past 20 years on Papua is the sold a lot of forest for the Chinese to cut down exported to the West as lumber for things like American wooden buildings.

@@anthonylentini3487 1st you have to acknowledge that toothbrushes and toothpaste did not always exist so people who were there before those things came along had other means of cleaning their teeth, they used different kinds of trees like Dogwood and oak, another popular way is to use charcoal sometimes mixed with mud & water but my prefered method is to use mint leaves and rub the leaves all over your teeth, it will remove the dirt and leave you breath smelling fresh.

New Guinea has the Southern cassowary (the same as Australia) and the Northern cassowary (slightly smaller in PNG) and also the smallest Dwarf cassowary (mountains of PNG). There is an even smaller extinct one called pygmy cassowary that which used to range from new guinea all the way to NSW in Australia. Its closest relative today is probably the bush turkey.

In fact, this practice has long been abandoned since Indonesia became serious about developing the region.
There are already Asmat ethnic groups who have moved to big cities such as Sorong and Jayapura to live their lives.
Currently only people in remote areas still practice it..... And yes, they are not yet registered as Indonesian citizens (WNI). 😴
