@@samwilson4597 now you just lying, Inaki Godoy is 5'6 and McKinley Belcher is 6'2, how could they be the same height? plus Arlong being super tall would make no sense since Arlong in one piece is shorter than Garp, Axe-Hand Morgan, and Blackbeard, so they would have to be recast just so they could be taller than Arlong
The fact that Oda is heavily involved makes me have very high hopes! He already had them re-shoot some scenes.

For me the issue isn't that he looks bad, he looks fine for a fishman character, but Kuroobi actually looks as intimidating as I want.
Yeah, I think more people are saying that Arlong looks bad, because they somehow made Kuroobi look really good, so seeing the leader of the fishmen look just okay is slightly disappointing in comparison. Honestly, I think they made Arlong about as well as they could've on their budget.

To be fair I think it'd be wayyyy easier to pull off making a human character look intimidating in comparison to something that's supposed to be inhuman. For what it's worth, I agree that they did a fine job with Arlong, he's not exactly meant to look pretty, so that rougher look works for me personally

True but oda literally explained he wants the LA to have it’s own feel and not completely copy everything, it seems Luffy is a bit more self aware which I’m all for it honestly, he’s the human version so it would actually make sense for to be a bit smarter.

But buggy way back then have been calling luffy "mugiwara" and their jolly roger already had a strawhat before they even met smoker. So they were gonna get called the strawhats regardless. And the fact that every enemy they faced they always call luffy "mugiwara" lmao. Even if smoker didnt say it. It would've been someone else because of how obvious oda made it look lmao.

Imo I think the O.P.L.A. show don’t look that bad & they did good with the casting. Also, considering how hard it would be to depict the fishmen in live action I think Arlong looks ok(mark was lowkey being harsh how else were they supposed to cast or depict a 8’7 sawshark fish-man lol). People always find it safer to hate on stuff at first so theres no consequences if it turns out good. Usually no one cares to go back and call someone out for being pessimistic but if you hype something and are wrong you lose face. Personally i think it has a really good chance of being decent at this point. I dont think its gonna be dog shiii and actually might be one of the best live action adaptations weve gotten to this point but we’ll see.

Maybe i haven't thought it out properly but i just see no merit in making live action animes unless slice of life. There's only negatives, limited by current cgi tech and shooting locations etc etc. I'd rather animation that doesn't look real but is stylised. Also have to condense the story to fit the structure. So it looks worse, the story is worse amongst other things but with less or the same money you could idk make a game of thrones anime. No limits to the designs and locations, voice acting is cheaper, can run for longer. I only see negatives when adapting live action shonen animes and i see mostly positives when adapting live action or books into anime. GOT anime would slap. Lord of the rings anime would slap. Etc

This was still a dream for them and oda. It took 7 years for them to get to this point and actually be satisfied with their outcome. They couldn’t just give up because the challenge seemed too daunting.

They could've made him taller but the thing is even if the actor is ripped, Arlong towers the strawhat crew and CGI making him bigger can be a hit or miss. That's probably why people are feeling off with Arlong's look here.

Luffy's English Dub doesn't even sound that bad tbh. It has gradually gotten more tolerable over the past 1000 episodes, but that's just me. It only sounds bad when he sings.

Oda has long since said that Luffy was Brazilian, hence, the accent. Same with the other characters that’s why they are the way they are; Zoro Japanese, Usopp Africa. For the rest of the weird stuff like Arlong not being 9ft or w.e, yeah I get that, prob budgeting/didn’t look good originally, remember this production has been going on for almost a decade so yk there’s a version of Arlong that looks exactly like the anime’s. Still tho, looks great and can’t wait

The production hasn’t been even close to a decade what do you mean LOL 😂 it’s been just a few years since they announced the CASTING of the show. I remember when they announced the OPLA and then shortly a few weeks after the casting was released as well as the actors speaking about them being recently casted… so no. This hasn’t been a decade worth of planning on production.
bruh this looks AMAZING! they even went back and got their OG outfits from EACH SCENE to make the characters look identical to how they did in the MANGA. Down to what the crew was wearing in the original scene when they visited Nami's home. the ONLY thing they changed was the Fishman but lets be real, he wouldve been impossible to remake from the OG.
*sidenote* Zorros character looks AMAZING! think hes gonna do him justice.

To everyone (including the bots at the Twitch chat), since you have no idea about it, Arlong is a Sawfish Shark (also known as Carpenter Sharks) and their nose looks EXACTLY like that.
So yeah, they nailed Arlong when it comes to real life. Mayhaps they could go with a slightly larger frame for the Fish-Men in general, since they tend to be pretty big compared to humans.
But as long they nail the behavioral traits of Arlong and his Fish-Men crew, no gripes with it whatsoever.

regardless i think its highly disrespectful to compare this live action to the rest considering how much love got put into making one piece live action. the creator is a huge fan and goes into one piece streams with one piece youtubers and talks with them for hours about one piece, everything gets run through by oda and they only do things with his approval, and they are trying their best to be as faithful as possible to the source material. NO OTHER ANIME LIVE ACTION REMAKE has ever been this loving to the source material. thats why this will most likely be the one that turns out to be the greatest live action adaptation for being so loyal to one piece.

If anybody is expecting this to go page for page like the manga or anime you’re delusional, I hear this will be 8 episodes so by these crazy standards the live action will only go to episode 8 of the anime which would be silly….all they need to do here is keep the heart of the show good, the acting and fights have to be solid. With Oda having his hand in this the story will flow as needed for this version of One Piece
Just want to say, if you watched this trailer and had an open mind to it and at the end found yourself giving it a "hmm not bad I kinda like it" reaction you are not in the wrong. They are not working with the avatar budget and I feel like they did alot with the resources available to them.

The main difference between this and every other live-action we've gotten is that this has Oda heavily involved, the producer is a huge OP fan, the cast are huge OP fans, the budget is high AF and they've been working on this for well over a year now. The live action adaptation is not bad compared to other live action anime it has a high budget and good actors but after what Netflix done with cowboy bet bop I can not trust it sadly
In this case it has a real nerdy fan as the showrunner who is heavily involved in the fandom (you can even here him talk with Nux Taku about the bad adaptions that came before) and needed to convince the original author that he is the right man for the job. Every major decision also had to be approved by Oda himself. This seem to follow more the positive example of Sandman (where the original author Neil Gaiman also had much control) than the bad example of Cowboy Bebop (where the creator wasn't even asked).
