    The steel gets very hot in the Prozess you should keep it cool

    That looks like a nice knife. The cross guard and the handle seemed very loose fitting before gluing together but I'm guessing it's all nice and solid now. When Iv'e watched smiths make the cross guard for a sword they always seem to make it really tight fitting. If the knife is all solid with no movement then great. I would be proud to have made a knife like that one.

    I had heard that lawnmower blades were low in carbon and somewhat soft. Did this one harden?

    • @iansforge
      @iansforge  4 роки тому

      yes. i always like to do some hardening tests on a little bit of the material.

    what type of wood did you use for the stock (handle / grip)
    I've got some off cuts of cedar, any thoughts on using it for a handle?

  • @redmoose7227

    hey man , you should really use that forge instead of your blowtorch to do those heat treatments , it will heat the blade to a higher temperature , and it will heat it more evenly , u want this steel to be an orangy yellow before u dip it into your oil or water for heat treatment (sorry for the repetions) ;p

      thank you for the comment. using the blow torch was a phase i went through lol. I'm using the forge again.
