It's a great blessing to be able to think about gardens before February! Believe me, as a northerner, we never even thought about planting a garden until April/May. Because you planted cabbage, I started bringing spring into my mind, and I feel warmer because of it. Thank you Tipper.
Your exuberance, your excitement, whether it’s about sledding last week or planting seeds this week, all in a short span of time in your region, is absolutely DELIGHTFUL! Keep on enjoying. And I KNOW you will keep on PRAISING! GOD BLESS.
I am old now and can't plant in the ground but I do have a container garden on my back porch. I am so anxious to start planting. Bless your sweet family.
Tipper, I'm so excited to watch you get started with your seeds for your garden! 🤗 It's so much fun and interesting to watch you and Matt plow, plant, pick, cook, and eat all the healthy food together. 💞 It's a lot of work but so rewarding. I hear sweet Ira in the background talking to you. 💕 Sending blessings to you and all your family. 💗🙏
There’s that “garden glimmer” in your eyes ❤️☺️ I love how excited you get over your garden-reminds me of my Grandaddy. Praying y’all aren’t impacted-well, actually praying nobody is impacted by the potential black outs in western NC-Brother Wayne mentioned it earlier on Deep River Farms. Would be devastating for many. Love, hugs & prayers sent your way from NE Mississippi !!
I live vicariously through you! I would love to have a garden, but no space! I’m excited to see all the Lords blessings come from your garden! God bless your precious family! 😀🙏♥️
Tipper, 19:57 Ira sounds so cute, I bet he will be walking soon. He already sounds like a character and must bring so much joy to your family, what a true blessing to have two grandsons close in age, you take care, thank you for sharing. Bless you all.
Little Ira sounds so happy 😊 and although I am sure they have a name, but if they are looking, Seeds for Survivors has a real ring to it. As always, much love from Texas to you and yours, Tipper!
I thought this scripture verse was so fitting as you are starting your seeds to feed your family this year: Psalm 128:2 - "When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy and it shall be well with you." I so enjoy your videos and your cookbook!
You starting your seeds is motivating me doing the same thing. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to following your journey with the garden this year!
I got.the plastic storage boxes 5x7 and my seed packets are in containers and marked. Thank you for sharing that idea. I also planted seedsnin my mini greenhouse my daughter and her family gave me for Christmas 202e
So exciting to start seeds. I live in zone 8b and started my peppers and tomatoes last year in Feb and it turned out to be too early so this year I am waiting until March 1st, that way they should be ready to transplant the first part of April. Glad you took my advice and wrote on the side of the seed container…so much easier to see what seeds you have. Pray we have a good year of gardening. God Bless.
So nice to see you planting seeds. Gives everyone hope. Last year our library set up a seed rack. Free seeds for all. Perhaps local libraries in your area could do similar. Or food banks. My town has a Fbook page of gardeners. We often share plants and tools. Blessings to all from Oregon.
Tipper, thank you for this video! I live in Oxford, MI and we are freezing and got 3" more of snow! I've tried to grow a small garden but between the bunnies and deer, I'm just adding items to their salad bar. God bless and keep safe!
Yay! I'm excited for you! Praying that your peppers grow well this year, and for the Helene victims seed project to get off the ground (and, eventually, into the ground). Thanks, and God bless!
I love your episodes. I have learned more from you and your Husband about gardening than anyone. Can't wait to have my garden. Also my Daddy is from Grassy Fork Del Rio. And he has told me alot that you have. He said his Daddy would let his hogs run free in the Summer and they would eat acorns and be so fat that the bell around their neck would be cutting into them. Also Daddy said it would get so cold that he could ride their mule across the ice on the Little Pigeon River. And he would say Arsh potatoe. Thank you for bringing back alot of memories. Rita
@CelebratingAppalachia Thank you. My Daddy's Mother died when he was 3 years old and his Daddy when he was 16, so I didn't get to know them. Daddy went to live with his Aunt when he was 16 in Asheville NC and went to work at Caton paper mill.
Wow, it’s that time of year already. I can’t wait to see your big garden. My brother makes a big garden too. My sister and I help him. It’s always fun to hear Ira’s little voice in your videos. Love you all Ms. Tipper ❤
Hey Tipper, you got me excited seeing you plant your pepper and cabbage seeds. I'd be tempted to put more than one seed in each section, but I know one is all it takes. Ain't God amazing! Love you all. Praying for everybody.
Wow! Time flies!! Can't wait to start growing things, too, it's so soothing to grow things. There are some (common) words of wisdom I used for myself this week that I wanted to share: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." I was thinking on it in relation to a conversation with my teenaged daughter, ha! but it reminds me also of when you said once that, "the truth just has to be enough." They are related in my mind. We can't always make people recognize the truth, even when we bring them to the edge of the water. They have to figure it out for themselves. Peace to you and yours!
I have it stuck in my head now your views on the little seeds and how they want to grow. I think of it when I'm tossing zinnia seeds all over the place (and finding them growing all over the place 🙂). Thank you for another edifying video, Tipper. 💞 🙏🏼 🙌🏼
I love Ira’s input! Thank you,Tipper! I always look forward to watching the garden’s progress! It be will interesting to see the roses on the stairs blossoming.🙏🇨🇦❤️
Hello Tipper, I love everything that you do. I would love to know how to pickle beets and which beats should I grow to have smaller round beats.Thank you for all that you and your family too.Dawn
Are you planting corn again in the new garden? I know you really enjoyed the corn last year. I'm so anxious for summer vegetables already. I swear i could eat green beans, pinto beans and corn bread, corn on the cob, big juicy tomatoes and cucumbers every single day.
Tipper, you mentioned something about working out something as far as seeds for the victims of Helene. I was thinking about how Amazon has heirloom survival seed packages with anywhere from 12 on up to 200 different varieties of plants already put together in sets. I've used the "victory garden" brand and the "survival" brand and had about a 98% germination rate from both brands. The packages run anywhere from $20 up to $100. There are several brands on there. I just wanted to throw the idea out there since I know many of the groups that are helping up there will have their viewers purchase items off Amazon and have them sent directly to the different communities.
Tipper did you plant the poppy seads ,did you say you just throw them in the snow? So can i do that here innew jersey in my front yard? Thank you patsy
I just so far have not had good luck with growing cabbage from seed. So I’m going to buy cabbage starts and plant those. I started my cabbage seeds like 3 weeks ago and they’ve all come up and they are so leggy. I don’t know why. I’m doing something wrong obviously. I also am having the same bad luck with collards. Who knew they would be hard to start from seed.
Curious wondering about what date you typically would plant the cabbage out in garden, assuming the weather cooperates this year and would you plan to cover them. I might like to try cabbage earlier this year here in south central Pennsylvania.
😊 We use row cover to keep the cabbage worms off and it works great. We've tried growing it in the fall but never had any luck, probably because we get so little sunshine in the fall and winter. Thank you for watching!!
Is the shelf in the basement or upstairs? I guess the basement is really warm because of the wood stove. Do you leave the lights on all the time? I absolutely loved hearing Ira’s sweet voice. That’s what makes your channel, it’s real.
I have a shelf like yours and shop lights on it. Grows hundreds of seedlings every year. Perfect system. First step to yummy kraut. 🥬 what a great idea about sharing seeds!!

I agree with your heat reasons.
That's exciting news about the seed share. I'm looking forward to hearing how that will work because I have seeds that I would be happy to share!
I have the gardening bug myself already. Looking forward to starting my seeds soon.
I will be tickled waiting on Matt's first mater sandwich of 2025!!

Mom and Daddy grew Flat Dutch. They bought plants though. I think Ira would like to get his hands in the dirt. 😊
Hi Tipper! I am excited to watch you start the next planting season!! God Bless and hugs for granny 🙏🏽

Glad you enjoyed this one 😊
Ira will have that potting soil everywhere. I bet by the end of summer you will find some little trucks and cars in the garden. Won't that be fun?
Love the sound of Ira in the background
It's hard to believe it's that time again. I hope y'all are managing to stay nice and toasty. It's been a cold few days.
Time goes by so fast! It has been cold as whiz 😊 hope you’re having a good week!
Grow, grow, grow! Stay safe, gang!
😊 thank you
I wondered after your last video when you were going to get started on those seeds!

Found your channel today. I look forward to watching some older content. Love the cabinet behind you. Do you plant by the almanac signs?
I just so far have not had good luck with growing cabbage from seed. So I’m going to buy cabbage starts and plant those. Question… what is the large print hanging on the wall behind you?
Curious wondering about what date you typically would plant the cabbage out in garden, assuming the weather cooperates this year and would you plan to cover them. I might like to try cabbage earlier this year here in south central Pennsylvania.
Did you use Miracle Grow potting soil? Also, what manner did you use to water those small containers?
It was just regular potting soil, but I have used miracle grow 😊 I have a small watering can with a very small spout that I use.
Still too early for me to start seeds here in Ohio. What zone are you in?
is that Lake Jun in the picture behind you?
I'm not sure 😊
The more space you give your cabbage the bigger they'll grow.
Thank you Papaw! We plant them to close together 😊
Garden prep has begun. Loved hearing Ira's commentary 😊 Won't be long till you'll have 2 new gardening assistants.
😊 thank you
Hi Tipper can't wait to see your garden good to hear Ira sounds so sweet give him and Woody my love God bless you all
Thanks so much 😊
Please pray for our great country.

He who plants a seed beneath the sod in hopes to gather has faith in god
Our local library has a seed bank, where you can get and share seeds. No charge.
That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Cabbage is actually a cold weather crop. It is best grown in the fall after the Cabbage moth season is over.
