    Great video! I just got the exact same bike exact same year. I got a lithium batery, cleaned and lubed the bone dry starter and it worked great. About 25 times now it's back to it's sad old self. Time to upgrade.

    Thanks for posting! I got the 410 watt starter motor and the lithium battery as you suggested for my 2015 KTM 300 xc-w and now I just touch the starter button for a second and it fires instantly! The stock starter motor is weak and a lead acid battery is junk.

    If you’re overhauling the system, it’s worth replacing the OEM bendix and crown-bear bushes with bronze ones - the OEM bushes are a real weak point. You can get them on eBay or from XRC in NZ.

    If you ever have to replace the bendix, Be sure to upgrade to the 2016 model. You also have to replace the crown gear to the 2016 as well. But it is a 'must have' improvement because the gear reduction has been improved and provides almost 20% more torque to turn the motor over Much Better!!

      @@mr.workhardplayhard6550 Hi, Because you have a 2015, you already have the 410 watt motor AND the upgraded bendix ratio gears. The brushes in the motor are usually what goes bad first. IF you have the experience/knowledge You can disassemble the starter motor and replace the brushes.
      Brushes are @$10 from Jeff Slaven's, PN KT55140002144. IF you decide to replace the whole starter... I have been quite happy with the Neutron Motor from RMATV for ONLY $44.99... There is Nothing special about the KTM Starter motor!! No reason to pay $300-$400 for a simple electrical motor. ( The 2016 bendix is laser welded, but I would not replace your 2015 bendix unless it has failed. ) Of Course.. Make Sure the problem is Not Just a weak Battery. Take Care 314.614.4601

      Mr. Work Hard Play Hard I’ve done every claimed “fix” you hear about on the internet for all years except (2018+) and unfortunately they don’t work. If the bendix worked than why is everyone with the newer bendix having the same (or more) failures as everyone else? Your very first upgrade should be lithium batt, and making sure you have great grounding connections, problem solved.

    hi pal quick question i followed your video new battery, relay, stater motor and starter button when the motor wasn't seated in the case it was spinning on the button soon as its bolted in its not spinning just getting the relay click i was wondering if the negative was bad on the two bolts holding the starter in place and it somehow must have been touching frame or somthing before

    • @DirtGearTv
      @DirtGearTv  3 роки тому

      How could the motor spin if it was not in the case? The frame is what grounds it. As for the motor bolts, they are not going to be the faulty ground. I recommend you upgrade to a larger diameter, short ground, directly off the battery to the frame. You can use jumper cables once motor is bolted in place to run power direct to the motor. If it starts easy with jumper cables and not when using the starter button than likely poor grounding from battery to frame of bike 👍

      With lithium it’s always good idea to have a lithium charger handy. The stator keeps it in a good voltage range if already changed but it won’t revive a dead or low lithium battery I’ve noticed

    UH Dirtgear Dud... You should have done some research Before you made a video to fix starter issues for KTM...
    KTM upgraded from the 350 watt to the 410 watt starter motor beginning with the 2013 model year for the 250/300 2 stroke.
    SO.... you 2013 and newer guys Already have the 410 motor!!!
    In 2015 KTM changed the gear ratio for the crown gear and bendix gear. This improved gear ratio gives @ 20% more torque to turn the motor Much more consistently.

    • @DirtGearTv
      @DirtGearTv  4 роки тому

      Bob Duvall I didn’t do any research actually, I’ve been riding ktm for years. The “improvements” ktm has made still leave many people stranded. The newer bendix ktm uses breaks at the laser weld and worse than previous years, as well as the newer starters.

    • @crazybob1954mo
      @crazybob1954mo 4 роки тому

      @@DirtGearTv The newer 2016 bendix does not have issues breaking at the weld. KTM just underdesigned their estart system. Perhaps partly to keep weight down?
      I'm going to properly weld the bendix gear to the shaft on mine like the factory should have done in the first place . I have machine shop equipment and know I can improve the bendix reliability way over what the factory should have done in the first place.
