A sublime performance and a great Olympic tournament from Murray, I think some folks forget Andy Murray is a 2x Olympic Champion as he went on a great run from this up to 2016 when he retained his Olympic title beating Del Potro in that Final, at his best Murray was a fantastic player.
Murray was absolutely sublime in the 2012 Olympics. People often forget how in the semi final he had one of his most emphatic wins over Djokovic. Enjoy your retirement Andy, you’ve earned it.
Djokovic was slightly less amazing in 2012 and 2013 after his then career best of 2011. But murray would continue to have bothered novak at wimbledon after 2013 if things had turned out just a bit differently. Now novak is of the best wimbledon and grass players and it cant be ruled out he would have won in the 80s or 90s playing more at the net.
Just weeks earlier, Federer beat Murray in the Wimbledon final on this very court. I often wonder if this victory here spurred Murray on for his first Wimbledon final win a year later.
The pain of losing the Wimbledon, plus the knowledge he could turn it on at a final at Wimbledon in front of a manic home crowd undoubtedly did spur him on to win Wimbledon the following year.
Borderline superhuman performance by Murray. The very definition of an Olympiad home advantage - it wasn't inconceivable that Murray could beat Federer, but to do so with such panache on his home turf (quite literally, at Wimbledon no less) was nothing short of - as you said - legendary. I can remember watching this live and thinking of Murray "he's going to get steamrollered". I was literally jumping and screaming at that last ace. Phenomenal stuff
@@luiscaetano6184and Murray had to play the greatest tennis player of all time. He didn’t lose a set in against Federer or Djokovic, this is one of the most incredible title wins in tennis history

A lot of people here are forgetting that Federer had a brutal semi final against Del Potro. He eventually overcame that big hurdle, but at what cost. It's likely Federer was to fatigued to play his best tennis in the final.
Of course he isn't. In modern era the Big 3 and no one else. 3 slams and Gold on the Olympics makes you a legend? Seriously? Alcaraz has 4 slams and Silver IO. Is he a legend? Of course not. Not yet. Maybe in the future he will be.
Kudos to Andy, now only Djokovic wins gold at the Olympic Games and can hang his racket on a peg and maybe even win a few more slams just to cement the question of who is the GOAT!!! Let's go champ
Murray KILLED him in this match. I don't think Federer has ever beaten him so convincingly. You could tell Murray was hungry for gold and prepared. No wonder he went on to win Wimbledon next year.
Federer had just played a 4 hour semi final against del Potro the day before for silver and was burnt out. Take nothing away from Murray, this was probably the best match he ever played, but its a shame we couldn't see Federer at his best. This was when his body started to decline.
Untrue, Fed's SF wasn't the day before. It was on Friday, so Fed got the standard rest period for a decently long slam match as the final was on Sunday. On the Saturday, while Fed rested, Murray - having just beaten Djokovic in singles on Friday - played 2 matches (which though being doubles matches were still tense matches with actual Olympic medals on the line, so were hardly stress-free relaxed events). This idea that Fed lost on Sunday only because of physicality is cheap as Murray too would have been tired. Fed just underperformed on the day and didn't have the usual crowd support
@@jbm8167 Exactly. And looking at these highlights, Murray played more agressively than he normally played, and his shots were amazingly accurate. Murray had a very clear head that day and once he got through the first five very tough games he gained the confidence to play the best tennis of his life.
I suppose the matches against nieminen, almagro, bagdahtis, wavrinka and Djokovic who Murray all beat in the tournament with dropping a set we’re all rigged as well eh ? 👍🏴😊
Worst match on grass I’d seen Federer play. His movement wasn’t the same nor was the intensity. He definitely seemed to lack power in his shots. I’m sure he was carrying some injury, most likely back I think. Anyway, Murray still played extremely well and deserved the easy win.
Only took 10 years for decent highlights.
Hahahahaha brilliant
loooll

Andy Murray is amazing and my all time favourite player xxx
A true Scottish great Marie
In his day could beat anyone and he proved it by becoming world no 1,will be sadly missed on the tour, just brilliant to watch
This is a wtf legendary win over the best of grass by Murray. 1:05 the shortest and lowest lob of history.

Murray could not, and would not be denied on that day.
That 2nd set was something else. I can’t recall Federer losing too many sets 6-1
Yeah. And I read that Fedeerer also went an hour without winning a game, 1st sent into second set. That must have never happened in his Pro career.
Fantastic player! 🙂
this was a fantastic match
2 legends and of course the GOAT 🐐 of grass, the fantastic Roger federer

If not for injuries this version of Murray would've gone on to share the next 10 years with Novak rather than one mans dominance.

Все просто, Роджер не был готов к матчу из-за эпичного полуфинала с Дель Потро, отдал все силы ....
Federer had a day's rest. Murray had to play two Mixed Doubles matches the day before.

Federer was killed by delpotro in that semi final marathon
To me andy murray is as good of player as novak on grass its a shame he is so unlucky he would have one at least 1 or 2 more wimbledon
Federer was killed by the insanely long semi-final just one day before. He never stood a chance.
2014 World Tour finals, Fed beat Murray 6-0 6-1.
It's funny becuase federer already had beaten murray the previous month at wimbeldon lol
That grass is a bit slow, right?
Not mentioned enough, the court was playing like a slow hard court such as Australia open, favoured Murray big time at this stage of their careers

quel giorno murray camminava sulle acque. Proprio l'unico che davvero sarebbe servito a roger per batterlo

How has this got less than a 1000 views 😂
Because Olympic tennis is like a friendly match.

love how idiots in the crowd ruined match point of 2 of andy's 3 titles at wimbledon
federer couldn't be arsed if i remember. XD probably cos no prize money
