Vangelis - Tears in Rain (Cover) From Blade Runner Soundtrack

- This beautiful and poignant music was the last piece played at the funeral service for Vangelis. The scene in the film is one of the most moving death sequences in cinema history. My parents did not take me to rated R movies, and so I did get to see Blade Runner for a while, even though I was a big fan of Harrison Ford. When I did see it, I think it went over my head a bit. Perhaps I was so blown away by the music that I couldn't focus on and appreciate the depth of the themes of the film until later. Blade Runner is my favorite work/score/album by Vangelis, and happily UA-cam allows me to share my love of the music with those of you who appreciate it.
The HydraSynth does an excellent job of covering the Yamaha CS-80 Blade Runner Brass, and the Prophet Rev2's combine via MIDI with the Behringer VC-340 to give three analog sources for Strings. I used the Yamaha Montage for both Fender Rhodes and to control the Behringer Model D for Bass.
In a hundred years this song will bring a tear to a replicants eyes.
I certainly hope this music is still moving people in a hundred years, and, at the rate we're moving with A.I., you may indeed be correct about replicants!
I won't lie if music didn't exist, i wouldn't still be here on this Earth. Thank you for this beautiful rendition
Thank you for your beautiful comments. Music can heal and sustain us.
So beautiful. Thank you for doing this. At 60, went into the Army at 17, retired at 37, still working for the USMC. 43 years now total service. But the most important thing raised a son as a single dad from the age of 6. He is now 22, chemistry degree and an Army officer. This song always makes me think now how fast time went and all my good memories are lost in time. So many things I have seen since 1963.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, and thank you for your service in the USMC. My children are also in their 20's, and it's a great pleasure to see them out there enjoying life. This music reminds us how precious life is, and also that it is precious because it is not permanent. We are our memories, and as long as we are alive, the moments are not yet lost.
Not all will be lost. I will remember your life story. Thank you for being here in his planet at the same time as me.
Well thank you for your services
As a person from the younger generation, never let Blade Runner die. It's a masterpiece that will never age and a message that will only become more relevant for years to come. Amazing cover, you captured the moment perfectly ❤
Thanks for your wonderful comments! I'm glad some younger people are finding this music.
I'm watching both films tomorrow. Even got a bottle of Black in to drink. Blade Runner will never die
This video should be 24 millions views already. I dont understand people.
Haha... Your words are the best way to get it to more people, so I thank you for each comment!
I have no words.......blade runner in my heart and memory
Thanks for your comments!
Synth sounds 10/10, feeling and emotion whilst playing 10/10, skills 10/10. This is by far the best interpretation of this theme I've ever seen/heard. Vangelis would be very proud... thank you for this.
Thank you so much for your very kind comments!
Incredible!! ❤❤❤
Its as if Vangelis and Rutger Hauer are speaking to us from beyond the grave. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.
Many thanks!
Absolutely beautiful. Vangelis would be proud. Love it.
Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy my other Vangelis covers as well.
this song always attracts beautiful people
Beautiful music brings out the best in people.
very nice cover of one of the most tender pieces of music ever written for such a dramatic and violent end of a life in a movie. Vangelis had that capability to create such emotional pieces.
Thanks for your comments. Yes; Vangelis had a brilliant ability to tap into our deepest emotions.
Beautiful tribute to Vangelis 👏👏👏👏🎵❤️
Many thanks! I believe this was the last piece that they played at the funeral service for Vangelis, which does seem appropriate given the subject of the piece.
Absolutely magnificent. Tingle down my spine listening to this. A true homage to our Maestro.
Thanks so much for your comments!! I really appreciate your encouraging words!
So many people love to copy and emulate Vangelis, and for good reason, his music is soul searching and amazing. Its a testimony to just how great and creative the amazing genius of a man truly was. And yet.....Vangelis couldn't read or write music, but instead, he could create it in his head and feel it in his heart, as it flowed through his arms, hands and fingers to the keyboard.
Many are inspired and influenced by his work, but very few could even begin to be like him.
This Tears in Rain cover is excellent, by far the best I've heard on YT, and captures the depth of feeling and emotion perfectly that Vangelis was capable of. So 10 out of 10 from me! Not many can capture the Vangelis musical soul like you do.
Thank you so much for your comments! They really mean a lot to me.
The fidelity you get with respect to the original is incredible. A delight for the ears.
Thank you so much!
Tears are mine, now. So many memories, feelings and thoughs. Perfect performance.
Thank you for such beautiful comments. I hope you enjoy my other Vangelis covers as well.
Both movies are and will be incredible classics. But for me rutgers words with vangelis' backing haunting instrumental are what makes the first movie. And goslings passing on the steps with the instrumental tribute to vangelis' genius is pure magic
Thanks for the great comments!
One thing that peeves me is that i have yet to find a pure vangelis soundtrack for this film that isnt polluted with dialogue.
Right! It seems crazy that, what many of us consider to be, Vangelis' greatest music wasn't given a proper release concurrent with the release of the film. Hopefully my covers help a little regarding the dialogue.
Beautiful, the maestro himself is looking down with approval.
I appreciate your other Vangelis renditions, I'm craving for more.
I truly appreciate your kind comments! I hope you enjoy the rest of the channel. I wish the Vangelis covers did not take me so long!
I closed my eyes and got the timing right for Roy Batty's monologue, the dove flying away, and Gaff interrupting Decard's thoughts on what just transpired.
Thanks for the great comment!
Thank you for this! A beatiful hommage. Long live Vangelis.
Thanks for your comments! I hope you enjoy my other Vangelis covers as well. I wish he could have seen them.
This is incredible. Even after watching it a few hours ago, it still send chills down my spine and chokes me up a little because you manage to capture and bring forth what makes this such an amazing piece of music. What an incredible rendition, played by someone who obviously loves and cares about Vangelis' work. And you make it seem so easy whilst all those subtleties are far from easy. It certainly makes me want to be a better and more focussed player. Thank you for this, very inspring.
This is absolutely one of the best comments I've ever gotten! Comments like this keep me going when I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. I deeply appreciate it. :)
Agreed this is incredible. Love it.
This music has the ability to make me cry
You are definitely not alone.
Blade Runner is a film about humanity, it leads us to reflect on our condition of being what we are
Sometimes it seems that the Blade Runner World's replicants are more human than its humans.
@@TaurusTarkus Yes, the replicants were as human as we are
👍🏻
Commerce is our goal here at Tyrell. “More Human than Human”
Tyrell is probably the Least Human character. “Rachel is an experiment; nothing more.”
Mr Taurus Tarkus ... magnificent rendition of this mesmerising music. Thank you very much.
Many thanks for your comments!
No other quote/piece of soundtrack moves me as much as this, except maybe Gut's theme/Bonfire of Dreams
I'll have to check that out.
This is absolutely amazing, one of my favorite movie scores.
RIP Vangelis 🎶
Many thanks!
From the very first note it was spot on. It brought be straight to the rental-VHS my dad brought home back in the late 80s.
Many thanks for your great comments! I love how music can take us back.
Bravo!!! My life is all around Blade Runner, every single day.
Many thanks!
Oh wow, totally gobsmacked here 😮
You totally nailed it and captured the poignancy with all heart and soul...
Why doesn't this video have the views it deserves...
Thanks for your beautiful words! It means a lot, and your comments give the video a bigger audience.
Just WoW!
The maestro would be proud.
Thanks for your kind words.
Unbelievable, sir! I’m crying already!
Many thanks for the great comments! I hope you enjoy my other Vangelis covers as well.
Probably my favourite moment in any film, ever, music, Rutger, camera, the pigeon .....you asked me for the feedback , you nailed it. OBV you can tell that it is not original since it is not as saturated as the original which was squashed by tape in a very nice way but this is a cover after all. Absolutely gorgeous. Harmonica preset is very close, as close as you can make it on Hydra. There is no science behind that sound - raw analogue oscillators slightly detuned sharkfin saws, 2 pole filter and tons of expression. Hydra, being digital is a bit flat that way, that initial harmonica saw punch that cuts through as soon as you play the note is a little bit flat, as i said, due to the different source of sound. But absolutely close, and that ending, wow. Maybe just for fun try to make harmonica on REV 2 (not that initial patch called Vangelis lol, it has tons of square while Vangelis used saw only) and use Hydra as pad to accompany the v340. Sound design wise, harmonica patch is there, you nailed the envelope. Plus, you play it all very well.
Thanks so much for your comments! Yes; I want to work on getting the lead sound on the Rev2... The lead sound that I play on the Hydrasynth here: I always think of as the "Blade Runner Brass" patch, as it is so close to what we hear on the Blade Runner Main Titles. Do you think on the Rev2 it is best program this with the saw/triangle mix oscillator?? Any High Pass Filter? What is your favorite instrument for that sound? Deckard's Dream? Thanks so much!
Every time I hear this, I feel it on such a spiritual level that sometimes it makes fall asleep to it.
Thanks! It can get you into a mediative state.
I finally got around to watching blade runner 2049, and the ending immediately brought me back here to listen again to your incredible rendition of this theme. Absolutely wonderful!
Thanks so much! That is the best scene! It was wise to revisit the music at that spot.
I'm more of a guitarist but it is so nice to see (hear) this extraordinary music being played live on these synthesizers. Absolutely stunning.
Thanks for your comments! I used to play more guitar but was never as good at it... probably because I started later. Vangelis had the unique ability to play synthesizers with the emotion that is easier to get with other instruments like the guitar.
One of the most beautiful themes ever
Indeed, it is. Thank you for your comments!
You felt it so deeply at 2.12 and the tenderness of the final sounds is deep.
It's a great blend there when the flute takes the lead and the brass moves to the role of accompaniment. I notice my head starts moving with the vibrato there (without me telling it to).
Perfect cover. 100% Blade Runner vibe. Awesome.
Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy my other Blade Runner covers as well.
May I give you 1000 likes? Very gentle. The right approach.
Thanks so much! I have noticed that UA-cam promotes the videos that get the most comments, not the most likes. So although I love getting likes, your comments mean far more!
"It's time to die" RIP Rudger Hauer !!! also rest in peace my Dear Vangelis, you will never be forgotten !!!
Yes; RIP.
So Memorable. Empowering.
I really appreciate your comments! Thank you.
All that music was not lost like tears in the rain....time to die.............Thank you that was amazing.
Thanks for the great comments!
And Vangelis' legacy and inspiration continue after his passing...beautiful work, simply beautiful
Many thanks.
This was just simply stunning! The emotion that you convey through your playing brings shivers to the spine, in that way that only music can do! I swear that if I hadn't had known, and someone played this for me, I wouldn't honestly believe I was listening to the original by Vangelis himself!
Thank you for such beautiful comments! I deeply appreciate it.
Outstanding. RIP Vangelis... all the best memories are... ours, thanks.
Many thanks!
A standing ovation 👏
Thanks so much!
If anything could be perfect this surely is .
Thank you for your wonderful comment! It means a lot.
Wow, that is really great work! Great production and recording. I've been dabbling in film score covers on and off for a couple of years now. I was watching 2024 last night and this piece really struck me, so today I went poking around to see what I could find, and your cover video came up. Rare beauty! Fantastic. Very inspiring.
Thanks so much! I enjoyed your American Beauty cover. I recorded some music from that film several years ago and should probably revisit it. I really love Thomas Newman.
2.36 that part OMG. You're done a man's job.
Thank you very much! It's an example of his brilliance in composing and using the colors available to him in the "Vangelis Laboratory."
Nicely done!!!!!!!! wow. One of my favourite moments in movie history where music and screen just blow your mind......
Thanks! An amazing scene for sure.
Tears in my eyes listening to that
Thanks for such a beautiful comment!
My goodness, so lovely! I love Vangelis' Blade Runner sound track so much I sleep to Blade Runner ambient tracks, and I must say, you do it justice!
Thanks so much! The combination of the music and the sounds of the soundtrack is magical. I hope you enjoy my others as well.
The Maestro would be / is proud! Taking on the chore of figuring out the synth settings can be daunting. I remember turning my friends on to Vangelis in the seventies and eighties. 👏
Thank you very much for your comments! As a young keyboard player in the eighties, the world of Vangelis seemed completely magical and out of touch from other artists.
A truly masterpiece. ❤ Thanks for performing this w so much love.
You brought peace to my soul and tears to my replicant eyes. 😢
Thanks for such beautiful comments! They mean a lot. I hope you enjoy my other Blade Runner Covers as well.
Amazing. Amazing. The song and your performance. Congrats from Brazil.
Thanks so much! (My brother's wife is from Brazil.)
One word my fellow composer............Excellence !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! Although I hasten to say that I did not have any part in composing this wonderful piece.
My goodness.
This brings tears back 😢
Thank you!!!!
Many thanks!
I've seen both this and your memories of green cover which are, in my opinion, the top two most evocative pieces Vangelis ever wrote. There are a number of covers out there but none have ever given me the goose bumps of the original ... until now. Well played sir and please ... don't stop. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Goosebumps are the very best reaction!
What an amazing cover !! 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
As good as the original from the Synth Master himself 😃😃
True respect !
Your comments mean a great deal to me and keep me motivated. Please check out my other Vangelis covers. Thanks so much!
Lol I just had a serious moment watching that. Playing that live looked like poetry in motion, just like Bladerunnner. I didn't even know a track like that could be played live by one man, I thought Vangelis would have just mulitracked different parts from different synths. Wow that's really Impressive bravo!
Thank you very much! If you watch my covers, you know that I try to play everything live if I can, but sometimes I can't. A couple of my Vangelis covers are "Live Covers," and a couple are like "Live Duets with myself." On this one, I play all the CS-80 Brass, CS-80 Flute, and Fender Rhodes parts live. I also play most of the strings and some of the bass live. I overdubbed some parts: for example, a simple high string part in the middle and some of the more subtle bass parts. I agree that Vangelis overdubbed various parts, such as a lot of his strings. His Roland VP-330 string machine did not have a sustain pedal, and so it would have been difficult to do certain string parts along with the other parts that he was playing. Thanks again!
@@TaurusTarkus To me that is pure alchemy , I can just about tweak the cutoff and another parameter or two on ONE of my synths at a time whilst recording into DAW so seeing this 👆 blew my mind, as I said it was like watching Bladerunner itself. epic
Be proud to do what you do !
Magnificent is an understatement thank you !
Thanks so much for your comments! I wish I had started making videos earlier; I find it much more satisfying than playing live.
“You’ve done a man’s job sir!”
😁 Many thanks!
You've done a man's job sir...
Haha... Thanks!
The cloth pads on the touch strip to keep that thing "gunk" free is a fantastic idea. (The music was pretty amazing too...)
Thanks. I think I sweat more than most, and that gives me more control and a better feel. As I mention in one of my Making Of videos, the ribbon controller that Yamaha used on the GX-1 and CS-80 has a wonderful feel.
@@TaurusTarkus on first reading my old brain interpreted the sweating more than most as the source of your more control and better feel and not the cloth. 😂Like many on a certain level I yearn for the landmark synths, but your work on these modern very attainable synths amply show there is little rational justification to pay much more than those you use. Have you done much with voice mods in the 2.0 hydrasynth firmware?
Yes; I didn't phrase that too well. The little pieces of synthetic fiber remove the friction that I usually feel with the HydraSynth ribbon controller. I bought a long strip of ribbon that I'm trying to figure out how to attach in a more permanent way. If you by voice mods, you mean the Voice Component Modulation template that Creative Spiral did, yes, I made a whole mess of copies of that and now start with those most of the time. However... my HydraSynth has been in the shop for the last couple months. I accidentally spilled a little green tea into it, which damaged the polyphonic aftertouch on several keys toward the middle. It didn't take much. So that's a little heartbreaking and expensive, although they tell me that it's fixable. I took it to Three Wave Music near New York, and ASM made them ship it to California for them to work on. One of my worst mistakes. @@klstay
omg....r u Vangelis ?!?! gratz, absolutely beautiful and perfect !!!
Thank you very much for your comments!
Unbelievable performance. Thank you for the inspiration
Wow; you're an amazing musician! I once did some pedal work with my Hammond on a live recording of Hoedown, but I don't have a video of it. It gives me an idea of how difficult it can be. Some of your pedal work must give your core a real workout. I've done a couple covers that show the pipe organ on the Yamaha Montage (God of Our Fathers and Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition). Keep up the great work.
Beautiful interpretation and an exquisite combination of instruments.
Thank you very much! I'm very lucky to have such wonderful instruments.
Wonderful interpretation. This music never fails to move me.
Thanks. Yes, powerful music indeed.
So beautiful. Unbelievable..
Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy my other Vangelis covers as well.
Thank you for this wonderful music.
My pleasure. Thanks for your comment.
That's tough! Congrats one the best tears in rain re-creation out there! What a tribute time the man!
Many thanks! He is missed.
Vangelis is proud! 🎹
Thanks!
Pure religion, dude
Thanks!
Taurus Tarkus Synth sounds 10/10 ~ truley amazing intrepretation ; terrific thorough thrilling thriving tops tranquil transformative transforming trusting truthful , well done you nailed it 💅🎹😃 Graham , England UK.
Thank you very much indeed for your kind comments! I loved visiting London a few years ago when my daughter was studying there and plan to visit more of your wonderful country in the next few years.
I subscribed to channel after 10 seconds listening to this. Brings back a great moment in cinema. I must have seen this film probably 30 times on its original release even though the critics dismissed it - I'd never seen anything like it & don;t think I have since.
Thanks for your comments! I hope you enjoy my other Blade Runner Covers as well. Yes; one of the greatest moments in cinema history.
Have watched both movies over 25-30 times as well, usually at some ungodly hour of the night, always sit up wide awake to hear the last scene with this incredible track. It led me here to listen to this piece of NmMAGIC!! Thank you mr taurus
He will be always in my heart. Bravo!
Thanks!
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks!
Let me just say this is just AWESOME!!! I haven't heard anyone who comes close to playing like Vangelis styled Blade Runner Rain before. You sir are a master it is so nice to watch you play each synth really soothing to hear this track live! You have nailed it and better Bravo! Thank you!!!
I deeply appreciate your very kind words! You give me motivation to keep working on his challenging and wonderful music.
Absolutely extraordinary!
Can't wait to try and recreate your cover with my Roland Fantom and Hydrasynth.
Thank you.
Many thanks! I hope my "Making of" videos will be helpful.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
Thanks for your kind comments!
Super! Thank you!
Thanks for your comment!
I remember listening to it for the first time watching Blade Runner. I cried. And I cried again listening to the "cover" made by Hans Zimmer in the 2049 ending. Great song!
Yes; the scene where Deckard "retires" Zhora brings me to tears, as well as the wonderful Tears in Rain music... and Memories of Green, La Petite Fille de la Mer, etc... Vangelis was brilliant at tapping into our emotions.
A piece of music that will stay with you forever. Beautifully done.
Thanks for your comments!
That is one heck of a setup you've got there! The synths are so accurate to the ones Vangelis used.. This sounds beautiful, so well done!
Thanks so much! Yes; I'm very fortunate to have my setup.
Tears in Rain is one of my favorite pieces of music ever, you played it so well and I love your synths
Thanks. Although I've been loving synthesizers most of the life, I never thought I'd be able to have such a nice setup.
@@TaurusTarkus I'm new to the synth world, I have been playing guitar for some years and only recently I have been fascinated by synths. I do not know how to play keyboards/piano but I will definitely try to learn it and how to shape the sounds with the synths. I really like your covers and video. Thank you for replying to my comment and have a good day!
@@mattiasignorile2920 You can have a great deal of fun learning synthesis even without training. There are many great instructional videos available on UA-cam. Best wishes!
Ho wow, amazing intrepretation, this piece is one of the most beautiful music ever created, thank you for keeping Vangelis alive
Many thanks!
i love this song, have the vinyl
Somehow I missed out on the vinyl years ago. I used to listen to my vinyl of Chariots of Fire a lot before I got a CD player.
Incredible! Fascinating that all that sound can be produced using only two hands! Well done
Thanks! Please note that this is not completely live.
Amazing. I feel very emotional listening to this
Thanks! Vangelis really had the power to tap into our emotions.
No other words to express this......simply beautiful ❤
Many Thanks!
Still gives me chills

simply amazing well played keep it up brings much enjoyment to so many of us who love both movie and music.
Thanks so much! Comments like yours keep me going when the work stretches on and gets tedious (as it is now as I work to transcribe a future cover).
Wonderful. A moving tribute. I am looking forward to hearing more of your music in the future.

Wow, speechless. What a talent...
